    Anyone else like to cook?

I just made this to let age for a while. It's a hot sauce I made, with oak wood chips in the bottom of the jar.

I've been doing more cooking recently as I try to get healthier. Made a crab soup last week that I really enjoyed. Will bust out the grill after the weather clears.

Healthy chicken recipe that's pretty fucking good.

Take almond meal and mix in salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Clean the chicken and baste it in egg, then dip and coat. Just pan sear it with some olive oil. I usually couple this with 1/2 cup of quinoa and some green veggies.

Alright Shaun Mason I'll bite, pun intended, here's my breakfast. Got some roasted asparagus, a couple poached eggs, some proscutto and the wifey made mimoso's. Throw in some great weather and it's a solid start to the day.

Excellent breakfast. I would want something bread-like to deal with the poached eggs, but that is personal preference.

I've started to cook for myself a lot more since I got out of college. I have an electric oven and a decent sized kitchen, rudimentary pots and pans. Also have a small crock pot and broiling pan.

However, what I lack is skill. Was hoping TSOers would be able to toss some recipes a novice cook such as myself would be able to handle. Right now I'm still on the basics: beef spaghetti, chicken alfredo, broiling steaks, ground beef tacos, beef stroganoff, etc.

Buy a Weber grill and a cast iron skillet, preferably 12 inches and you can make basically anything you could want.

Allrecipes.com is your friend. Some of the few recipes I've found on there which we use on a regular basis are

    Hamburger Sliders
    http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Slider-Style-Mini-Burgers/Detail.aspx

    Pulled Pork
    http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Slow-Cooker-Pulled-Pork/Detail.aspx

    Sweet Cole Slaw
    http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Sweet-Restaurant-Slaw/Detail.aspx

The pulled pork one is literally just pork butt + root beer + slow cooker and that it is.

Watch the Food Network. Any of Bobby Flay's shows, approach it like a cooking lesson.

Just a warning that I'll be posting (properly) in this thread for the first time later tonight after my attempt at dinner.

You broil steaks? Tell me when you obtain a cast iron skillet and I'll teach you to do it better.

What kind do you have? Does it matter as far as coating, size, etc.?

I have a skillet but I don't know if it's cast iron, is there that much of a difference?

    Yes

    1) Cast iron can get VERY hot, which is critical.
    2) You can also put it in the oven, which is how you finish a steak.

Ok, so I poached some salmon with tarragon, parsley, dill, and shallots. Sauteed asparagus and simple egg noddles tossed in butter. Made a pan sauce from the salmon poaching liquid with heavy cream and a little lemon juice.

I'm going into a coma shortly.
