    Coach Brog,
    • Your Spartans are ranked #8 in the nation at 4-2, but many expected to see your team play the the NC by year's end. What went wrong in your two losses this season, and what has your team learned from them going forward?
    • Your coaching career at MSU started off quickly with huge success. Do you think that earning a National Championship so early in your tenure has placed unfair expectations on your team?
    • You've lost your last two contests versus Michigan; how important is a win tonight for your team and the MSU fan base?
    • What do the Spartans have to do to win?
    • I hate to ask you to look ahead, but Coach Run's Bucks are on fire thus far this season and ranked #1 in the Nation. How badly do you want a shot at these guys?
    • Lastly, what recruiting news can you share with us today?

Thanks for having us in the press room. We're always happy to talk about our program and efforts to achieve greatness.

We're used to having high expectations here in East Lansing. Our players, coaches and fans all expect to win every time we step onto the field. The reality of playing a tough schedule against other quality programs is that you can't win them all. We've got off to a slow start our past two seasons and that's an issue we plan to address. We were able to recover and secure a BCS bowl win last season. We hope to do the same this year.

The reason for our two losses? That's an easy one. Turnovers. We had 3 interceptions against Auburn and a fumble at the end of the game that should never happen. Against UVA, were impatient and threw another 4 interceptions. We had some of the former Spartan players in this week during our bye week to talk to the team about the basics of Spartan football - protect the ball, focus on the running game and play great defense. We've slowly become a passing team over the past couple seasons and we're focused on returning to the style of play that lead to our early success.

When we took over, Michigan State was already one of the premier programs in college football. The expectations were already high. We got to the championship game in our first season, but we stumbled against a great football team in Colorado. We won an amazing game against Florida in our third season for the title and have played in a BCS game every year since taking over - winning all the first game against CU. This is not a "peaked too early" type of situation.
    • You've lost your last two contests versus Michigan; how important is a win tonight for your team and the MSU fan base?
We're well-aware of the trouble we've had with Michigan these past two seasons. We lost our focus and looked past our biggest rival. I can assure you that we've learned our lesson and won't allow that to happen again. One of our goals is to own the state of Michigan in recruiting and on the field. We plan to reclaim the second part of that in week 8.
    • What do the Spartans have to do to win?
Back to the basics - protect the rock, run the ball and play great defense. We've lost the past few games because we failed to convert on key scoring opportunities, turned the ball over and gave up big plays on defense. Michigan has had great success stopping our running game so that could be the key in week 8.
    • I hate to ask you to look ahead, but Coach Run's Bucks are on fire thus far this season and ranked #1 in the Nation. How badly do you want a shot at these guys?
We've made this mistake before. We don't play Ohio State this week. We'll worry about our other games when we're preparing for those games.
    • Lastly, what recruiting news can you share with us today?
We're working on a small class this year, but things haven't gone exactly as planned. We've lost 5 of our top 15 guys and could lose our top 2 guys this week. We're battling with some of the top programs and not winning the battles. We had a great recruiting schedule last season, so we had lower expectations with our schedule this year. We're going to make the most of it and look forward to another strong off-season and a very strong class next year.
