    Tide Ready To Roll

Last year, the Tide rose to the top only to be tackled off of their pedestal in their final 2 games. Well, they look to be in line to climb to the top again and with 9 starters returning from the #3 defense of 2009, they could finish there. But they are gonna need help from a rebuilding offense that only returns 6 players that had solid playing time last year. The good news is one of those players is true sophomore Julio Jones.

Tide Rushing Attack Rolls Through Hokie Defense,
    Alabama Wins 35-10

Alabama started off the season right with a big win on the road against #10 Virginia Tech. The Hokies got on the board first with a long FG, but that's about all they did. After that, Bama scored 28 unanswered points. They beat them on offense, defense, and even beat them with their own version of "Beamer Ball" special teams when junior Rolando McClain blocked a Virginia Tech FG attempt.

    Week 3: Michigan @ #4 Alabama

    Tide Rising

The defense led by linebacker's McClain and Hightower won this game by causing turnovers and only allowing the Wolverine offense to convert 2 3rd down conversions. Alabama also got to the QB 4 times for big time sacks that slowed down the offense. But it wasn't a great day for the passing offense when it came to yards. Michigan threw for over 300 yards but they only managed to get 26 total yards on the ground thanks to many tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

The tide offense continued there safe pound the ball style and nearly got 200 yards on the ground. Even though McElroy barely passed over 100 yards most of his plays took the ball past the first down marker.

Next week the Tide have the Razorbacks coming to town. Can the Hogs swim when the Tide is rising?

Tide Overcomes Mistakes, Sends Arkansas Home Disappointed

Alabama overcame turnovers and blocked kicks to win their conference opener. The offense had a mediocre day with Ingram going down with an injury that held him out a few quarters and Upchurch never consistent. You could tell Coach Perry was uncomfortable with how the running game was going when he had freshmen runningback Trent Richardson standing next to him almost being sent in. But he decided not to and so far Richardson still has his redshirt status.

The rush defense had a great day with many tackles for loss that put Arkansas's total rushing yards in the negative.

Next week the Tide travels to Lexington to take on the Kentucky Wildcats. Will Bama take out their frustration on the Wildcats or is this another potential trap game?

    Tide Rebounds, Scores 56 Unanswered

After back-to-back drives with interceptions that led to touchdowns, Bama roared back from their early 14-0 deficit to destroy Kentucky 56-14.

McElroy improved significantly, finishing with 3 TD and no more INT's after the first quarter. Julio Jones proved why he his the favorite target of the Tide's QB with 100+ receiving yards and all 3 of McElroy's TD passes. The running game was very impressive as well with Ingram and Upchurch totaling 261 yards and 5 rushing TD's.

The defense finally found there grove holding the Wildcats under 200 offensive yards. The front seven dominated the backfield with 10 TFL including 5 sacks. The pass defense was improved greatly, deflecting 5 of Kentucky's 17 pass attempts.

Next week the Tide goes to Oxford to take on an underachieving Ole Miss. Will the Tide roll or get stopped in its tracks?

Tide Rolls; Lose Reamer for Season, Ingram for 3 Weeks

Alabama came into Oxford and rolled through what is now considered an overrated Ole Miss team. But in the process of their big win, the Tide lost starting OLB Cory Reamer for the season and starting HB Mark Ingram until the LSU game in 4 weeks. Jerrelle Harris stepped in for Reamer and was pretty quiet until the 4th quarter when he recorded one of the defense's many sacks off an inside blitz. Roy Upchurch stepped in for Ingram from his part time role and rolled through the defense getting 100+ yards and 2 TD's.

The offense overall was effective but the defense had to bail them out after some careless fumbles. Greg McElroy made no mistakes and got 2 key TD's. Julio Jones recorded his 2nd overall and consecutive 100+ receiving yards game. And with the way this offensive line is improving along with first-year starter McElroy, their may be many more.

Snead passed for over 200 yards but even with that you gotta give the W to the defense. 40 plays that he dropped back: only had 15 completions, 13 incompletions that include an INT, he rushed back to the line of scrimmage one time for 0 yards, and he was sacked 11 times. That is the definition of domination. The rushing game wasn't any better for the Rebels. Bolden only rushed for 29 yards while all others that attempted but the Ole Miss rushing total in the negative.

Next week the Tide returns home to face a surging South Carolina team that has a lot of youth and could be forced into mistakes.

Alabama Overcomes Mistakes, Hammers South Carolina 52-27

By the end of the 1st quarter, Alabama already had 1 interception, both of their fumbles were returned for touchdowns, and they were down 24-3. Between quarters, Coach Perry gathered all of his players around him on the sideline and yelled six words: "No more mistakes! Play to WIN!" When the Tide marched back on the field, they had already forgotten the 1st quarter. They shut them out in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, and only allowed 1 TD in the 4th that came off a fumble return for a TD when Grant was stripped amongst a group of players.

With Mark Ingram out, Roy Upchurch carried the load (148 yds 3 TD). The player that shined the most was Heisman hopeful Julio Jones who helped lead the comeback with 2 TD receptions towards the end of the half.

The defense had a great day only allowing 76 yards thanks to big plays behind the line of scrimmage (9 TFL, 3 Sacks). But Bama could have used some big turnovers from their defense to help surge them past South Carolina. This was the 2nd game this season that the Tide hasn't forced a turnover.

Next week...The Vols come to town. Alabama's hated rival will be coming in off a bye week. Even with the bye, Tennessee is still limping in due to some serious injuries to key offensive players. Gerald Jones is out for the season and Jonathon Crompton is still nursing his dislocated elbow. Without those two players, players like defensive linemen Terrence Cody and Lorenzo Washington or linebackers Dont'a Hightower and Rolando McClain will be licking their chops...

Tide Gets First Two BIG Commitments

Alabama's first commitents of the season bolster their already monstrous offensive line.

Bryson Slaughter, from Candler-McAfee, GA, is a strong quick player that Coach Perry thinks will be able to compete right away. There had even been talk about him playing some at center once he got enrolled.

What do you do when you lose an Andre Smith? You go get another one. Coming from the West Coast in Newport Hills, WA, is Andy Harris. Harris is 6'4 344 lbs. and he's quick and mean. People talk about bookends on the defensive line, can you imagine what it's gonna look like with Fluker at one tackle spot and Harris on the other?

Both Slaughter and Harris were at last week's South Carolina game and both agreed how impressive it was for Alabama to react to adversity with the big comeback they made. The news broke the night before the Tennessee game when they both announced to the press they are going to be clad in Crimson next season.

Tide Shows No Mercy, Beats Tennessee 51-0

Alabama welcomed the Volunteers in to town this weekend to continue this border rivalry full of hatred. The Tide sent them home with their tail between their legs in Alabama's first shutout victory of the season.

The defense had an outstanding day with the secondary and the front seven. The secondary compiled for 4 INT's and only allowed Tennessee to complete 30% of their passes. The front seven combined for 15 tackles behind the line of scrimmage including 6 sacks.

The offense had a good day on the ground and in the air. Upchurch carried the bulk on the ground today with 101 rushing yards and 2 TD's. Heisman candidate Julio Jones had a good day catching the ball for 100+ yards and 2 TD's.

Alabama will be off next week as they prepare for another rival coming to town, LSU. The Tiger's have been sliding this year but that doesn't mean Coach Perry and the Crimson Tide will be underestimating them. This will be Alabama's last home game of the year before they go on a 3 week road trip against Miss State, USC, and Auburn.

Tide Gets Some Help On Defense

Of all the seniors Bama will lose after this season, over half are on defense and most are starters. Coach Perry gave a sigh of relief today when to of their top defensive recruits committed.

Georgia has become quite a pipeline for Alabama with Swainsboro native, Hiram Watkins giving a solid verbal this week. Watkins is a quick 4 star CB who may be called upon to play early with Alabama already loosing 3 senior CB's and the fact that junior Kareem Jackson could very well go pro after this season.

In his first season Coach Perry knew what he wanted to recruit and even went in uncharted waters to find it. 4 star DE Kendrick Brown is in another position that needs help and depth right away. If he could show maturity early on, we may see him on the field a good bit next season.

Both recruits were at the Tennessee game this past week and they saw that Alabama had a great defense, but they also saw the amount of seniors in each of there respective positions and decided this is where their talents are not only wanted but needed.

Coach Perry Brings In More Big Recruits, With Big Wins Against Big Rivals

Coach Perry has recruits committing all over here lately, and most of them for a common reason: The 3rd Saturday In October. Alabama's big win against rival Tennessee has caught the eye of recruits across the nation. Alabama got to more solid commitments this weekend from 2 more defensive standouts.

If there is 2 things Alabama has, it's great linebackers and great players from the state of Georgia. 4 star linebacker Chris Miller fits the bill in both of those categories. This Redan native has height(6'2) but not really the size(218 lbs) for the inside linebacker position. When we spoke with Coach Perry he said that with what the Crimson Tide already have, Miller will likely redshirt to either gain some size or to learn the outside linebacker spot.

Deleware City, DE had never really been a warehouse for Alabama recruits but Coach Perry took a chance going after 5 star defensive tackle Heath Lawson and collected big time. Lawson is a 6'4 294lbs workhorse that could make the Tide's defense next year think they never lost Terrence Cody. He's a beast at the noseguard position and absorbs double team and sometimes triple team blocks.

Miller and Lawson both pretty much knew they would be coming to Tuscaloosa but they both admitted that they wanted to keep their options open. Both committed to Alabama early this week after going on there respective visits.

Excellent write up man. Congrats on getting that DT. You had a seriously good foothold on him for quite some time. I thought about trying to swoop in, but he was pretty much yours from set, go.

Yea, I've been very lucky with my recruiting and inviting them to games against rivals and then all out dominating them has helped me. I basically ripped Andy Harris away from Oregon because of a big win. My board is pretty solid and there are only 2 guys that I'm not sure if I'll get or not but if I don't I'll just go after a couple when the new recruits come in the offseason.

Tide Rolls Over LSU Defense, Wins 56-12

Alabama-LSU has been a rivalry that has always favored the team on the road but this year was an exception. LSU's rushing attack was stagnant if anything, and the defense couldn't slow down the Tide at all on the ground or even in the air.

Except for a couple of INT's, McElroy had a great day with the passing attack completing 68% of his passes and getting 3 TD's. The rushing attack dominated LSU. Ingram and Upchurch combined for 260 yards and 4 TD. Receiver Maze even got in on the fun by taking a direct snap out of the Wildcat 19 yards for his first rushing TD of the year.

The Tide's #1 defense against the run had another great day. The entire defense combined for 15 tackles behind the line of scrimmage including 4 sacks. The secondary was pretty stagnant against the pass allowing 210 yards through the air but they did get a turnover when Woodall picked off LSU's Jefferson on a deep pass.

Next week Alabama goes to Starkeville to face Miss State. Many fear that the Tide may be looking ahead at USC. We can only hope they're not and just taking these games one at a time.

    Bama Commitments Love Big Rivalries

Alabama has picked up 3 more commitmentsthis season after their dominating win against LSU last week. Brian Jones and Morris Bolen were in T-town at the game when the Tide picked up their big win. Jon Garcia visited a few weeks back and after looking around at other schools decided Alabama fit him best. All 3 commitments come from 3 of the top recruiting states in the southeast.

4 star recruit Brian Jones is very tough and strong outside linebacker out of Frostproof, FL. He will be added to the stable of a linebacker corps that is already very talented.

Morris Bolen is a 4 star cornerback from Adamsville, AL. This instate recruit brings a little height(6'2) to a group of corners that average around 5'11.

Jon Garcia is more than likely going to see some playing time next year with him being the only center that's not a senior. This 4 star recruit from Hernando, MS is tall, strong, and very good at pass protecting.

Jones Scores Winning TD In Record Breaking Day, Tide Outlasts Bulldogs 50-47

In the first quarter, Alabama hung their heads in embarrassment. Before they knew it, Miss State was up 21-0 with no signs of slowing down. Then Julio Jones started an amazing comeback with a spectacular 19 yard reception that put the Tide on the board. Bama Eventually fought back and were up 43-40 in the 4th after a bootleg pass to Colin Peek that gave Alabama just their 2nd lead in the game. But the Bulldogs fought back as well and seemed to have the game locked with just over a minute let in the game and the Tide having no timeouts. After a few short first down passes McElroy launched one downfield to Julio Jones for a 59 yard reception and Julio would have scored if he had not stepped out of bounds trying to avoid a tackle. With 18 seconds left in the game McElroy tossed a TD pass to Julio who was running a fade route to win the game.

Despite some unneccessary turnovers, the offense was great in every aspect except breaking the running game in. A lot of that had to do with Alabama needing to throw. Ingram did manage to gain over 100 yards but he was the only life in the rushing attack. Julio broke the NCAA record for receiving yards with 491.

The defense played well against the run again but the passing defense was horrible. Allowing 468 passing yards is not good when you may be playing Florida in the SEC Championship just a few weeks away.

    2011 Season Preview

    Preseason Ranking: #11

    Overall: A+
    Offense: A+
    Defense: A+
    Special Teams: B

Alabama comes into this season with a very talented team that still has some question marks. This is definitely an All-American team but the question is can they finally become a National Championship team. There are big leaps they have to make but Coach Papa has full confidence in his team to succeed.

    Key Seniors:
    - HB Mark Ingram
    - WR's Marquis Maze, Darius Hanks, & Brandon Gibson
    - G John Boswell
    - DE's Luther Davis & Marcel Darius
    - DT Josh Chapman
    - LB's Jerrell Harris, Dont'a Hightower, & Courtney Upshaw
    - S Robby Green

    Key Concern:

QB - Both QB's have talent but need to express leadership

    2011 Season Review

    Overall Record: 10-4
    Conference Record: 7-2

    Summary

For the 3rd consecutive season, Coach Papa led his team to the SEC Championship only to come home disappointed again. In a year that included everything from blowouts, to close games, to QB changes, this was probably the most disappointing season in Coach Papa's 3 year career at Alabama. But when looking at the losses, it wasn't a terrible year. Oregon was a hard fought battle that come down to simple mistakes. Florida just simply overwelmed Alabama with their superior speed in their first meeting and Bama played the a lot better in the SEC Championship. And Texas, who narrowly defeated Alabama after Bama failed to recover an onside kick, won the National Title. So all 4 losses were to legit teams.

A great class leaves including the new Alabama career touchdown leader, Mark Ingram. The loss of Maze, Hanks, and Gibson won't show as much as people suspect due to Michael Bowman's emergence as a great possesion receiver and Kendall Kelly is oozing with raw talent. The defense takes the biggest hit with 6 of the front 7 leaving. Those six combined for 274 tackles 112 TFL 46 Sacks 6 FF and 1 SFTY. But the 6 behind them on the depth chart are all extremely talented and good enough to step in if they keep their composure. Tana Patrick has already been informed of his move back to MLB from SS to be put along side his 2009 recruting classmate and returning starter Nico Johnson. Due to lack of talent at CB, WR BJ Scott will be returning to his original position and SS Robert Lester will also be making the move to CB.

    2012 Alabama Team Preseason Questionaire

    1. 2012 Expectations

Even with the amount of talent that departed Alabama the Crimson Tide truly expects to be contenders this season. Alabama has lost every SEC Championship game they have competed in under Coach Papa and they are focusing on that but they are also focused on the big time teams they play this season. We are going in prepared to win the close games so our main goal is to keep the big games close.

    Projected Record: 12-2

    2. Team Strengths

It would have to be the running backs. Alabama proved late last season that any of their running backs can push the ball forward to put the team in good situations.

    3. Team Weaknesses

Defensive experience by the new starters. 4 of the key starters played a different position last season and BJ Scott played on the other side of the ball last season. Also 6 of the front 7 are starting for the first time this season. On the offense, experience at WR is also a concern. Michael Bowman showed out last season but there are concerns on how he will take the pressure of being the teams #1 WR.

    4. Key Losses

    HB Mark Ingram
    WR Darius Hanks
    WR Marquis Maze
    WR Brandon Gibson
    DL Josh Chapman
    DL Luther Davis
    DL Marcel Dareus
    LB Courtney Upshaw
    LB Jerrelle Harris
    LB Donta Hightower
    S Robby Green

    5. Key Returning Players

    QB Star Jackson
    HB Trent Richardson
    HB/KR Eddie Lacy
    WR Michael Bowman
    TE Brad Smelley
    LB Nico Johnson
    DB Dre Kirkpatrick
    S Mark Barron

    6. Freshmen Expectations

The 2 WR that were heavily recruited will be eased into the gameplan at a steady pace.

    7. Recruiting Strategy

The only roster need is C but we'll be recruiting one strictly as a backup. With only 10 roster spots open and possibly more opening up with guys that could possibly leave early, Alabama will be recruiting talent for the future. We have however found 1 player who could start right away.

    8. Key Game

Even though Oregon and Texas are very talented teams with great coaches, the biggest game for Alabama's regular season will be the first meeting on the college level against Coach Noles. They have met on the pro level one time and Coach Papa won but it was a close and exciting game like this one is anticipated to be. So ladies and gentlemen, in the words of Terrell Owens: "Get'cha popcorn ready!"

Alabama gets tomahawked by the Seminoles in their first game of the season. In a big game that Alabama truly thought they could compete in, FSU capitalized on Bama's mistakes and refrained from making any thereself. Senior QB Star Jackson did show some promise going 20-29 for 219 yards and a TD. But he also showed his ugly side very well with 5 stomach-turning INT's. The Tide hope to rebound next week when the Ducks come to town.

Player Of The Game - Kerry Murphy 6 Tkls 2 TFL

The Tide rolled through the Oregon Ducks to rebound from their embarrassing loss to the FSU Seminoles. The offense took control with 181 rushing yards and 182 passing. A big improvement from last week was the amount of turnovers. Star threw an INT early in the game on a very ill-advised pass that set up one of Oregon's FG's. The defense got pressure on the QB forcing 3 sacks and a few hurries. 2 big 50 yard receptions by Kendall Kelly really helped reverse the field position and set up TD's.

    Offensive MVP - Trent Richardson 20 car, 118 yards, 2TD, 4 rec, 32 yards

Defensive MVP - Kerry Murphy 3 tackles, 2 sacks

Alabama had a big day on the ground with everyone touching the ball and contributing to 223 yards on the ground. Richardson got the bulk of the load with 78 yards on 17 carries but was unable to punch it into the endzone. Lacy and Jackson however were able to get a rush TD each. Speaking of Jackson, he had a better day than he's used to with 177 yards passing 5 total TD's (4 passing, 1 rushing) and only 1 INT. Defense was led by Kerry Murphy (9 Tack, 4 TFL, 1 Sack) and Nico Johnson (7 Tack, 3 TFL, 1 Sack) who punished the opposing offense all day. Kirkpatrick and Lester both got an INT with Lester taking his back for a TD.
