The Dawg Pound Report 2013 Reports.

    Week 6

New head coach of the Georgia Bulldogs had his hands full. Within 72 hours Mark Richt stepped down as the schools head coach, and offensive coordinator Josh Burdan was hired as coach to finish the year out. Well after a up and down what may have gave him a heart attack at times, the Bulldogs fall short in a 5 overtime epic with [3-1] Tennessee 73-71 when Georgia could not get the 2 point.

Tennessee controlled the 1st half of the game giving Georgia fits on offense, and pounded the rock with Oliver all game long, Oliver thrashed the Dawgs D for 169 yards and 4 touchdowns. Everytime it seemed like Georgia would come up with a stop quarterback Smith found a way to keep the chains moving, his go to target was James Green who really came up big in the overtime and Chris Douglas who seemed to pick up a 1st down every drive for the Vols.

Georgia started off slow but turned the corner to start the 2nd half with a pick 6 to the house by corner R. Cade then getting Allen Johnson a touchdown to end the 3rd quarter 21-21. A UT Oliver 3 yard touchdown to start the 4th, UGA came back with a 96 yard kick return from Nick Wall then another pick by the Dawgs leads to a Allen Johnson 6 yard touchdown to take the lead. UT ties up the game with 2:26 left in the game with a 26 yard touchdown pass to S. Hall who was wide open after some blown coverage. Micah Young had a chance to upset the Vol's but threw a bad pass to get picked and leaving Tennessee a chance to march down the field and with less then :14 left, Georgia sacks Smith which puts them out of field goal range and his misses it short to send it to overtime.

Each team traded touchdowns in OT, which ended on a incomplete pass by Young to end the game at 73-71.

Georgia falls to 1-4 and 1-3 in conference look to rebound next week when they face 0-3 Alabama

GEORGIA BULLDOGS [1-4] vs ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE [1-3]

Nick Saban's defense pressured Micah Young all day long. Young shown above his frustration after a sack

Alabama -- [AP] Georgia came into it's match up vs [1-3] Alabama coming off a heart break 5 OT loss to Tennessee. Coach Josh said before taking the field we've got to tackle better, we can not let Alabama run on us like we let Tennessee or it will be a long day for us.

If the 1st quarter was a preview of what was ahead for in this game, Georgia was in trouble with a ton of scoring, mostly by Alabama who took a early 28-7 lead featuring A.J. McCarron throwing 3 touchdowns early. A total of 3 touchdowns [2] which Alabama scored and 1 return kick off by Nick Wall within a 30 second period. Senior A.J. McCarron had a career season and put his name on the heisman watch list with his season high 5 touchdowns and 383 yards in the air. But the real talk should be the Alabama defense who knocked down Micah Young every chance it had forcing him to leave in the middle of the 1st quarter with a dislocated shoulder, but Young's toughness got the better of him and would only sit out 2 series before re-entering the game in the 2nd quarter. Saban's defense forced Georgia's offense to twelve 3 and outs and Allen Johnson was held to - 5 yards on 9 carries in the 1st half.

Georgia got the score within a touchdown after a opening 2nd half kick return by Aaron Todd, but Alabama's running back Mitchell scored on a 1 yard run to make it a 14 point lead. Alabama put the game away in the 4th with a 49 yard touchdown pass to Mitchell and put any chance of Georgia to come back, but Georgia still didn't give up scoring 2 meaningless touchdowns late in the game to lose 49-35.

We caught up with Georgia's head coach after the game and this is what he had to say. "We gotta tackle better, that is what has killed us in 2 games this season, we are missing way to many tackles.. We're going to practice hard this week and come out strong for #23 Kentucky next week. "Our offense needs to get off to a better start, the fumble that [Allen] Johnson was a game charger in the 1st it should have been over-turn as you can see his knee was down but the refs saw different."

    WEEK 8
[#13] KENTUCKY WILDCATS [4-2] vs GEORGIA BULLDOGS [1-5]

Athens, GA - [AP] -- Head coach Josh Burdan finally picked up his first win as the Georgia coach with a 45-20 upset win over 4-2 Kentucky Wildcats. Coach Josh had this after the game, "It feels good, alot of changes have gone over with this team, I took over the play calling job this week and went to a more power run offense. We've struggled to move the ball at times and we needed to make some changes." Georgia put up 440 yards in the air, and 285 yards on the ground, Junior quarterback Micah Young was nearly perfect in the air and added 77 yards on the ground, Young was named player of the game.

Georgia's defense played well also even with giving up 354 yards they played well, still had some mistakes but it was our best game of the season. Junior corner Pat Cade took a pick 6 back on the 1st series of the game to get the scoring going. Kentucky's all-american tailback Jerrell Green was the only bright hope on offense he totaled 199 yards of offense. Nick Wall didn't expect to be much on offense, but with Allen Johnson struggling badly, Wall came up with 104 yards on the ground after the half time change, Wall and Todd were the a force to bring down and look to give Georgia some hope with 5 more games left on the schedule.

[#18] SOUTH FLORIDA BULLS [3-1] vs GEORGIA BULLDOGS [2-5]

Georgia's defense was in the face of USF's quarterback all day

Athens, GA - [AP] -- The 2nd time in 2 weeks, Georgia has hosted a ranked team and pulled off it's second straight upset on the season. Heavy rain made the game very sloppy which saw South Florida score 2 defensive touchdowns on fumbles by Micah Young. Nick Wall and Allen Todd have given the bulldogs the spark they have lacked on offense all year, Wall and Todd both went over the 100 yard mark, and Todd added 105 yards on special teams. South Florida's defensive line did pressure and did a good job early but Georgia didn't give up on their bread and butter of a run game and kept pounding it down there throats and it paid off. Micah Young broke the game open with a 24 yard touchdown pass to Patrick Davis in the 3rd quarter. Georgia's defense packed the heat on quarterback A. Jackson who had a season low 136 yards and sacked 4 times and 1 safety. Outside of a Bellamy 64 yard touchdown Georgia held South Florida to just 219 yards of total offense and forcing a late interception to end the game. Georgia will meet up with #2 Florida Gators next week when you throw both records out in this match up.

    WEEK 12
AUBURN TIGERS [6-3] vs GEORGIA BULLDOGS [4-6]

Athens, GA - [AP] -- Georgia closed out it's SEC conference with a nail bitter game vs [6-3] Auburn in the big rivalry game between the two schools. It came down to the less :07 seconds and Auburn's senior quarterback Tyrik Rollison went to throw the game winning touchdown but Chris Mackey who was in prefect coverage took a interception and returned it for a touchdown as time expired to pull out a 28-17 win to finish 3-5 in conference and travels to end the season vs #1 Georgia Tech next week.

Georgia's offensive line really struggled, Micah Young was sacked 6 times, and Todd & Wall had it's season low since taking over the running duties. Young had 2 touchdowns but really took a ton of hits in the game and is questionable to practice this week in the build up of the season showdown vs Georgia Tech. Team's #1 one receiver Anthony Brown who has been out for 8 weeks is likely going to suit up and play vs Georgia Tech depending on how he practices this week. Coach Josh had this to say after the thrilling game. "We need to get our butts in gear and have a great week of practice or we are going to have our butts kicked by Tech, Our defense has been lackuster so far on the season, and we really need to work on that or it's going to be a long game next week."

    Georgia

    Micah Young : 11/16 ; 172 yards ; 2 touchdowns ; 0 interceptions
    Nick Wall : 10 carries ; 86 yards ; 0 touchdowns
    Allen Todd : 8 carries ; 92 yards ; 1 touchdown
    Orson Charles : 2 receptions ; 31 yards ; 1 touchdown
    JaJuan Turner : 2 receptions ; 66 yards ; 1 touchdown
    Sean Frederick : 7 tackles ; 1 Force Fumble ; 1 Fumble Recover

    Auburn

    Tyrik Rollison : 14/27 ; 256 yards ; 2 touchdowns ; 2 interceptions
    Brian Mitchell : 19 carries ; 114 yards ; 0 touchdown
    Ronnie Holloway : 4 receptions ; 39 yards ; 1 touchdown
