Rene Rivera Wins NL Batter of the Month Rene Rivera hasn't gotten much action this season with the signing of Tommy Medica, but the backup catcher gothis chance to shine this month and that he did. He went .349 with 10 HRs, 23 RBIs and 15 Runsin the month of June. A large chunk of this came over his last 9 games where he batted .577with 7 HRs, 13 RBIs and an OPS of 2.068.
Disgruntled 3B Pedro Alvarez Demands Trade? Rumors have begun to circulate around Denver that 31 year old 3B Pedro Alvarez has requested to be traded. Alvarez has seen his playing time start to diminish as he's been really struggling this season. Taylor Wrenn's surprising offensive performance has started to make Alvarez expendable, but the Rockies management refused to comment on the availability of Alvarez. Alvarez certainly thinks he still has plenty of years left in him and there are a few scouts that we have spoken to that also think he still has some gas in the tank.
Diamond In The Rough: Jesus Dias There's been a new star rising in the Rockies Minor League system. Back in June, the Rockies offered numerous Minor League contracts to a wide range of players. One player they signed was 3B Jesus Dias. Dias had first been drafted in the 21st Round of the 2014 by the Washington Nationals. After 6 months, the Nationals released Dias. He was then drafted again in the 16th Round in 2016 by the Chicago White Sox. After 2 lackluster years in their organization, the White Sox decided to release him in June of 2018. 2 weeks later, he was a member of the Rockies organization. However, the Rockies management felt that Dias' talents were better suited as a relief pitcher and moved him to MR. This was a move that looks to have paid off in spades for the Rockies and Dias. In just 2 months, Dias has risen from S A ball all the way to AAA with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox and is potentially poised to make an appearance in the MLB soon. His combined Minor League stats are; ERA of 2.63, a WHIP of 1.00, a K/9 of 7.88, and has yet to give up a Home Run. His performance has already forced him into being considered one of the Rockies Top 10 prospects. Thanks soxandgators
In addition I would like to add thanks to soxandgators for MR Andrew Bellati. After spending three years with the Sox and signing a 7.2 million dollar deal back in 2015, he was released July 1 this year and picked up two weeks later by Detroit. It is unclear why the White Sox choose to let him go, although he did go 9-12 5.57 ERA last year as a starter. Evidently they tried him at starter to start the season in which he went 1-4 in 8 games before being moved to the bullpen where he was fairly efficient.
He had a 3-5 record when White Sox GM decided to hand him his walking papers.
Come 6 weeks after his release and 4 starts as a Detroit Tiger - Bellatti is 4-0 with 2.17 ERA . His last start being a 8 inning, 4 hit, zero runs against gem against SD.
I need photo shop
Check out GIMP. It's not as good as photoshop, but for a free program, it's very very good. The average person will never need more than what GIMP offers, imo.
I hate that Justin "Old Man River" Morneau is in the NL West now, especially in Colorado. I hope he breaks his hip.
