Yesterday I was fortunate enough to participate in the Hark Knocks draft run by BobJr. I was filling in for Cole Copeland and it was a great chance to get to see how Bob runs his draft and how the process worked overall. Here are a few things that I took from their draft that I hope we can implement as well. I'd also like to get your guys' thoughts and opinions on how we can make this the best possible experience for the VFL. The draft started promptly at 6pm and lasted just under 3 hours. This sounds pretty typical. They have a full 32 team league and I believe everybody showed up. If we still have a few CPU teams this could shorten the process a little. We used a Skype conference call and had as many as 15 guys on it at one time. I believe they also had an AIM Blast going as well. This seemed to help facilitate trades and overall communication. Although some guys said later that they did not feel there were a lot of trades, I was actually surprised by the number of teams that made deals to move up and grab "their" guy. Scouting plays a HUGE role. Cole took over the Falcons very late and was not able to get much scouting in. It was VERY, VERY hard drafting blind. You should spend all of your recruiting points every week to be safe. I, personally, would love to do the Skype call. It was fun to associate a voice with some of the guys I had known from the forums or other leagues. It was also interesting to see how dedicated some of these guys were to their teams and their draft boards. I'm not big on AIM but have used it before and would be open to that as well as I know guys like woodsmall are shy with people they don't know I know we are a few weeks away from our draft, but I thought it would be good to start planning out what we are going to do and how we can make it the most enjoyable experience for everyone. What are your thoughts?
