July 1st, 2040 Dugout RPI The Lone Rangers: The AL West has tanked this whole season and it's represented in the RPI. The perennial Top 10 Houston Astros have fallen all the way to 28th and the Angels and Athletics are both in the bottom half of the league. Not the Rangers though who have the best record in baseball and have scored the most runs and allowed the least runs in the entire MLB. Perhaps this is the year where an AL West team can actually take home the championship. Dead Birds: Trading Eduardo Martinez seems to be the straw that broke the Orioles' back. With the 4th easiest schedule in the MLB(and really close to having the easiest), the O's are 38-42 which is good enough to slot them last in the RPI. The domination that Baltimore has held onto for the last 25 to 30 years is done. The AL East is wide open. Top Heavy: Normally you'll see 1 to 3 teams above a .520 RPI, maybe 5 or 6 above .510, and a lot of teams hovering around .500(10 teams finished 2039 between .495 and .505). So far though, 11 teams have separated themselves from the rest of the pack rather emphatically. This sets up for pretty exciting playoffs, but the 2nd half of the season could be uneventful if these teams continue what they've already started.
