Welcome to the home of Alabama Football for the 2011 football season.
Alabama travels to Kent State and imposes their will early and often in a 62-7 blowout. Coach Easy and the Tide seemed determined to get the ball to Julio Jones early and often. With Kent State often putting 9 men in the box to stop the run the play action pass was able to find space and the Tide put up two huge scores. Then the defense chipped in on the first of two touchdowns on the day. Defensive end Square made a great move and hit the KSU quarterback Nicely just as he released the ball. It floated and was caught by a tide backer who took it to the house. From there the Tide kept on scoring until halftime when they put in the subs and tried to drain the clock and leave healthy. They were successful in both regards and are eying a big splash in the SEC this season.
Alabama traveled to the Swamp to take on the number 1 ranked Gators. The trip did not end as planned for the Tide as they lost their second SEC matchup in a row (first one was autopiloted due to connection issues against Arkansas) 24-17. The Tide jumped out to an early 7-0 lead thanks to some great running by the Tide. But the Gators came surging back and tied it up in the second quarter. A back and forth punting game ensued until the Tide scratched across a field goal late in the half.
In the second half both teams traded touchdowns and it was knotted at 17 when the Tide took the ball with 4 minutes left in the game looking to drive the field for the win. After a pair of first downs that put the ball near their own 40 yard line the Tide threw a costly pick that altered the course of the game. The Gators went down and scored a touchdown and it was over from there.
Alabama is going to need to regroup and fight hard to win the West otherwise it will be another disappointing season and Coach Easy's leash won't be very long.
