The Fighting Cocks of South Carolina

Week 1: NC State @ South Carolina

The South Carolina Defense was a no show in this one. The NC State Wolfpack came into Columbia looking for a win and that is what they got. A late charge by the Gamecocks would pull them closer, but the defense could not stop the NC St offensive attack. With a loss to start the season, South Carolina looks to win their SEC opener on the road in Athens against the Georgia Bulldogs.

Final Score: South Carolina 35 NC State 48

The South Carolina Gamecocks would walk into Athens with only one thing on their mind, Win. DrunkenSoldiers Bulldogs had other plans for the 'Cocks. Turnovers would haunt the SC offense and ultimately be their defeat. With a 31-17 lead in the 4th quarter, Stephen Garcia would throw multiple interceptions to put the Dawgs back in it. With a clutch FG after 2 TDs, the Bulldogs would again intercept a Garcia pass, making it the 6th on the evening, and go on to win this one and move to 1-0 in SEC play.

Final Score: Georgia 34 South Carolina 31

Going on the road to a "cupcake" team isn't a norm, but the outcome came as the usual. South Carolina would pick up its first win of the season in week 3 against the Owls of FAU. FAU would not make it easy as the game came down to the end. However, the Gamecocks were just too much of a match for the Owls, and SC would move to (2-1) on the season.

Final Score: FAU 32 South Carolina 50

    Week 4: (2-1) South Carolina v #11 (2-0) Ole Miss

South Carolina was 0-1 coming into this SEC game in the Conference and were looking for a win to stay in the hunt. The #11 ranked Ole Miss Rebels were looking to go 3-0 and chase the National Championship. However, this day would belong to the Gamecocks. After some impressive defensive interceptions by the D, SC would control the ball and manage to run the right plays and come out on top of this one in an upset win over the Rebels. HBs Eric Baker and Brian Maddox would be the stars of the team accounting for 3 TDs on the ground. Stephen Garcia would help out with a TD pass to Hills, and on defense, Auguste would bring an Interception back 101 yards for the Gamecocks first TD of the game. Let's Go Cocks!!!!

Final Score: Ole Miss 32 South Carolina 35

    Week 5: 1-2 Utah St @ 2-2 (1-1) South Carolina

The South Carolina Defense showed up for this game...and they showed up big. Pitching a No-Hitter against the Aggies of Utah St in Columbia. Led by the run game on offense, South Carolina locked up the victory. HB Eric Baker had 36 carries for 235 yards and 3 Touchdowns, while the second HB Brian Maddox had 12 attempts and running the pigskin for 80 yards and 2 Touchdowns of his own. The defense was led by DT L. Ajiboye who had 5 tackles, all 5 for a loss, and 2 Sacks. The Gamecock D also forced 2 fumbles and did not let the Aggies into the Redzone once all game. Utah St only managed a total of 103 yards during this one and went 1 for 12 (8%) on 3rd Downs. That is a Fighting Gamecock Defense!

Final Score: South Carolina 53 Utah St 0

Coach Cimmy and the Gamecocks over looked the Wildcats and paid the price. The Kentucky Wildcats rolled into Columbia looking for their first SEC Conference win and they walked out with a smile. SC could not tackle a dead chicken in this game. UK HB A. Smith scurried for 196 yards on just 29 carries and scored a TD. Bowland and Conner added 45 yards and a TD to the rushing attack for the Wildcats. SC HB Eric Baker had a very good day on the ground going 101 yards on 23 carries with 3 TDs, but it would not be enough. The Wildcats were faced with a 3rd and 21 on their own 8 yard line with 3 minutes left. The South Carolina D came out in a 3-2-6 Cover 3 defense, yet UK would still convert on 3 broken tackles by WR G. McCaskill. UK would control the ball and on a 3rd and 7 with just under 2 minutes to play, SC burning their final timeout, Smith would break multiple tackles on his way to a first down and game ending run.

Final Score: Kentucky 38 South Carolina 35

After a season of disappointments in the SEC, South Carolina stunk up Columbia against Clemson in the Battle of the Palmetto State. 55-17 was the Final Score as SC couldn't tackle your grandmother in this one. Clemson's Robo QB Korn seemed to be able to make the passes through triple coverage and the Clemson WR's grabbed everything. CJ Spiller ran circles around the Gamecocks all game long.

The Gamecocks would like to wish the rest of TF: SC good luck in your bowl games. See you guys next year as USC looks to rebound after a dismal season...
