    The Lantern -- 2014

    Beasty Bucks

The Buckeyes open the season with a huge win over Navy. The Midshipmen are known as a triple option team, a scheme Coach Masler loaths. Luckily for him his team dominated all day, it seemed they scored with ease, never once did they struggle. He brought in the backups in the 4th and they managed to score twice more and crushed any hope Navy had of coming back. Tragedy struck though as 99 ovr C was injured for 11 weeks, must be a curse because the same thing happened last season. Nice start Bucks.

Coach Comments: "I like what I saw out there today, my team looks sharp. Right now our goal is to win the conference and if a larger title accompanies it then so be it. I hate losing our star Center as well but it's something we couldn't have predicted, get well son. Go Bucks."

Bucks start off 1-0 at the #3 position in the land. They head to UCLA next week to fight Coach Recchem and the Bruins in the Conference Matchup.

Even with Rhoden out for the game (just for the game, don't get excited Hokie), backup Bell threw 5 TD's (and 3 pick 6's, Iowas only source of scoring). James was the big man of the day with 6 Rec, 193 yds and 2 TD, he caught two long bombs...CPU can't leave that man wide open like that, I will take advantage of it lol. Backups were brought in at the start of the fourth, according to league rules. They would score twice if I remember correctly.

Apparently Iowa didn't mind leaving people wide open as three different receivers had over 100 yards. The run game was ineffective for the Bucks and the defense played great, not allowing any offensive TD's.

Bucks stay undefeated and have a Bye before the big one against the Nittany Lions.

Rhoden had one of his best and worst days out there today. He scored a total of 5 TD's (4 passing, 1 rushing) but threw a career high 4 INT's. James played a huge role to keep Indiana from winning this one. No bombs were caught this game by this kid but twice he broke away from the defenders and burnt them to a crisp. The other receivers also played great roles including Sanders who hauled in a long pass for a TD. The Bucks defense harassed the QB all day with numerous sacks and 3 picks. Indiana may not have won but they dealt a huge blow the Bucks offense as they took out starting HB Childs for 7 weeks with a broken collarbone. Coach Masler has told the press he will alternate the 2nd and 3rd strings as the 2nd is more of a power back and can get the easy 1st down on short yardage and the 3rd string is speedy and can pick up long yards.

The Bucks are 6-1(3-1) and still praying for PSU to lose 2...and they will go into Minnesota next week to face the Golden Gophers.

This game was all defense. Minnesota gave up the ball 6 times., 2 INT's and a fumble taken for TD's. WR James also had a TD and a kick return TD. OSU's offense had only 267 yards. Late in the game Minnesota exploding with scoring on their running game while OSUs second strings attempted to keep up. Once they were only down by 19 Coach Masler brought the starters back in and Rhoden threw a TD to preserve the win.

The Bucks are 7-1(6-1) and host the Illini in a huge rivalry in Week 11.

    OSU -- 59
    Illinois -- 24

A big game for the Bucks as they take on the Fighting Illini at home. A cold day but sunny as OSU made fools of Illinois on national television. The game started out scary as the two teams traded TD's for most of the first half, with the score at haltime 28-24. But getting the ball the start the second half made all the difference for the Bucks as they shut out the Illini offense and dominated in a 24 point half. Two players lead the team for Ohio State and they would be HB Griffin and WR James. The two gained big yards and lead their team to victory, see stats below. The defense also did their job, picking off Illinois 3 times, one for 6 points.

The Bucks extend their record to 8-1(5-1). They host Big 10 foe Northwestern in Week 12. National Title game hopes are still there, slim, but still there. (Anyone wanna lose to help me out? Hokie? DJ?)

    Notable Stats:

    J. Griffin 34 Att, 173 yds, 4 TD (And this is my backup...)

    J. James 3 Rec, 69 yds, 1 TD, 2 KR, 106 yds, 1 TD

Another good game for the Bucks as the defense made big time stops and the offense opened up great plays. The defense didn't cause any turnovers this game but they did force Northwestern to go 0-3 on 4th down conversions and batted down many passes. QB Rhoden was taken out of the game with a broken wrist but the doctors informed Coach Masler it is very minor and he shouldn't miss any extended playing time, sorry Suge. Backup QB Bell stepped up and did his job throwing for over 250 yards for 4 TD's. HB Griffin had a decent day scoring once on the ground and once through the air. But today's game ball went to an amazing perfomance by Junior (RS) WR Sanders. The kid caught only 5 passes but took them for over 150 yards and a pair of TD's. Good job kid. WR James also had over 100 yards receiving and 1 TD, but he seemed to have trouble holding onto the ball (flashbacks of his freshman year ran through his mind). The Wildcats also had an unfortunate lose as their CB broke his ribs tackling Griffin. The doctors have confirmed he will miss the remainder of the season. Best wishes in recovering..

The Bucks win another to go 9-1(6-1). They finish up Big 10 play at the Big House next week in THE GAME. Coach Masler looks to go 3 straight years beating Ohio State's most hated rival.

Ohio State dominates Florida (avenging the 2007 BCS NC loss) in the Capitol One Bowl 35-20. Florida was able to shut down OSU's run game but could do nothing to stop the pass, even though they recorded 4 INT's. Qb Rhoden was on fire as he threw for 499 yards and 4 TD's. He also managed to run one in, the only time Florida's rush defense slipped. JR WR James had a great game, possibly his last, catching 9 passes (one for 84 yards) for 2 TD's. HB Griffin touched the ball only 10 times for 38 yards, he went out of the game after a minor injury.

Ohio State caps off the season at 11-2 and showed EA not to mess with them EVER AGAIN.
