typically, if you are interested in buying a club, all you have to do to hit it is go to a course / shop that sells them and ask to demo it. They will tape the head up to prevent you from damaging the face
There is one where I live, but the clubs are newer I'm pretty sure so I didn't forsee anything being in my price range. Everything I've read has said these are a solid beginners set which is all I was looking for.
Anyway, to the point at hand, I'm pretty sour on Callaway clubs. They are really a step behind in my opinion as far as the technology of their clubs is concerned. During the 90s / early 2000 they were among the top of the line as Drivers go, but they have been passed by many different brands. The Diablo was a decent driver for the year it came out, but certainly not the top model that year.
The cavity is nice for beginners, but you won't get the feel that you would with a mizuno iron, for instance. For the record, I absolutely loathe all Nike golf equipment.
You can find other drivers from that year at similar prices. Maybe a little more expensive, but around that range.
I like last season Ping G20 driver, I also liked the Cobra I hit but I picked up Callaway Razr X. As a new golfer the most forgiving clubs are best. I had a set of Cobra S series irons a few years back that we're awesome. I agree with Cheez that most Nike clubs annoy me , the new driver with the strange look is hot as shit but not forgiving at all. My first swing I hit one about 290.... Carry Next 3 balls left the range they were so far left & right lol. I have hit a golf ball since July 6th , and I may not until spring
Agreed never but a set of clubs till you hit them.... Did this once with a set of mizunos on ebay.. Big mistake hated them and bought a set of titletist 6 months later
Third time out this year. If I didn't completely choke going OB on 8 + 9 I might have had a pretty damn good score. Finally straightened the drive out for the most part, but it started to fall apart the last couple holes. Not sure if it was fatigue, thinking too much or what. Once that gets consistent I should be able to start shooting between 45-47 on 9 holes I think.
So I picked this up a few weeks ago and have been hitting it really well. I took the advice of this community and hit it before buying it and loved it from the first swing. Anyways, that driver combined with my new irons has/have been treating me really well. My last two outings at this course have been the best ones I have played. I played best ball with some friends and played stroke play the other time- I can't recall exact scores but just know I played well. Really starting to enjoy this game. Has also helped that I have stopped trying to kill the ball and just swinging nice and easy (irons and driver).
They just opened up an indoor golf place like 5 minutes from my apartment. Hopefully going to hit that up soon. Never done the whole indoor golf thing. How different is it?
No idea. We have a bubble in Columbus but its just a driving range.... and its probably only 100 yards long.
depends on the set up , if it is like the one I play in Westerville then it has some pros and cons. The surface to hit fairway and fought shots is ok , but the "sand" is weird as shit. The putting is lame but it is what it is. I enjoy it , fun time and get to work on full swings.
I'm hoping to get in at least 60 rounds this year. I think I ended with 67 last year and more than 75 each the 2 years I was in South Carolina.
All my clubs are TM. I swear by em but honestly, it probably means very little. Its more about feel and comfort with them than anything else. FWIW when I do get new irons, they will probably be TM RBZ or something like their MB's seen here As i said its about feel for me - I don't like irons that have too big of a sole (or whatever the underside is called, the part that touches the ground.) I like my cavity back irons that I think are from the early 2000's but their sole is pretty narrow/thin. I've seen some cavity backs that are really fat/wide and I hate them because I feel like my contact struggles (especially on tight lies) and the control is far worse. But thats just my uninformed .02
I hit taylormade irons last year.... really high launch angle. For a guy that already hits a high ball, I hated them.
I hated them when I hit them in a club fitting, not forgiving at all for a non-player iron. I would recommend the Ping g20 series or Titleiest AP1 irons from 2013. I was on the fence with either set but I got more customization options from Ping if memory is correct. I am also a fan of Cobra irons and some Mizuno brands as long as the blade is not too thin.
Anyone having any good weather to play? In the few times it's been above 60 degrees here, it has rained. I just finished 18 in 55 degree weather with 25 MPH winds.
