    2012 Preseason report..

    Defense :

Returning upperclassmen are no doubt led by 2 time All American and the reigning 2011 Lombardi trophy winner, Jr. LE, Henry Poole. Poole has garnered attention from pro scouts but has made it clear he is on a mission in Moscow. How far he takes this team is unclear, but there is every indication that his junior year will be his best by far. Another member of Poole's recruit class, Jr - LOLB Corey Patterson could be on the verge of a break out season. And Jr - FS Derek Greene is also a returning All American. Greene's signature has been hard hits and forcing fumbles. last season he started intercepting the ball as well. The Vandals defense appears ready for the top 25.

    2012 PreSeason Report :

    Offense

Returing upperclassmen are led by Jr - WR - Patrick Mealey. On paper, Mealey appears to be on the verge of a huge season. His Sophmore season was not quite as good as his freshman year, but that can also be attributed to the offense being run dominant with now graduated Princeton McCarty. Mealey expects to reap the benefits of Soph - QB Justin Terry's off season progress as well as the huge signing of 3 star QB recruit James Cowan. Terry and Cowan are expected to compete for the starting job next year and for the remaining years they play together. This year appears to be all Justin Terry though. Terry is the 7th best player on the squad in just his Sophmore year on a squad filled with emerging talent.

The OL has been a weakness for the Vandals, but they expect a year of offseason progress to really shore things up. Recruits are now beginning to meet expectations and if they begine to gel, things could get really interesting in Moscow.

Perhaps the biggest oversight from prognosticators has been the HB's in Idaho. The past few seasons have highlited D.Jackson and then last year Princeton McCarty. The Vandals have been trying to bring in recruits to fill the holes left by those two players... but lo and behold... the Vandals have a more than adequate stable of senior HB's that have been waiting to play. led by Sr - Corey White and Sr. Shelton Miles... you can expect the Vandals offense to perhaps be even more potent than last year. All 4 Sr HB's are capable of starting and contributing. Coach Milmont has been working them in rotation and that type scheme will wear out opposing defenses. Corey White is a known commodity... but Shelton Miles is the x factor. Converted from CB several years ago... he hasn't had a chance to play. On paper, he has some skills that just might make him a star. Look for Miles to get an early look from Coach Milmont with his team leading speed, agility, acceleration, and vision. As a converted CB... Miles appears to have been a gamble that has paid off in progression.

The 2012 team looks to be defensively stronger... but the offense has few if any weaknesses. If the OL gels, this could be a huge year for the Vandals and most certainly next year they will be in the hunt for a NC.

    2012 preseason report continued...

With a few practices under their belt, the 2012 Vandals appear to have made a choice at HB. SR HB Corey White gets the nod with Sr K.Bailey getting 2nd string. Converted CB to Hb Shelton Miles just doesn't have the burst of speed the coaches thought he would, so Miles is relegated to 3rd string. 4th string Troy Vital may see some time at WR rather than RB as the Vandals are a bit thin at WR. Mealey and Veltung are the only deep threats at WR, so their health is of utmost importance this year.

Look for the Vandals to target some speed at WR this season in recruiting. They are going to need some younger players to step up in a few years and keep the deep game going.
