    The Ohio State Buckeyes

    Navy at OSU

The Buckeyes kicked off the season with a dominating performance against Navy with a 47-14 win. Navy would make things interesting in the first quarter taking the opening kick off 70 yards to put them into scoring position early. Navy ran the ball very well and easily drove down for the opening score to take a 7-0 lead. The Buckeyes would drive right back down the field behind tough running by Brandon Saine and Boom Harron. Terell Pryor hit Ray Small over the middle to tie it up 7-7.

Navy took the ball 80 yards on their next drive behind more solid running from the fleXbox One. The drive looked to stall when starting QB Dobbs was injured. But back up Kameron Smith, on the very next play threw a strike to Washington for a 26 yard TD pass to put Navy up 14-7.

Unfortunately for Navy, it was all OSU from there as the Bucks scored 40 unanswered points. Pryor was an efficient 10-13 with 3 TD. Small caught 2 short TD's and Washington nabbed a 61 yard TD pass for his only catch of the game.

OSU Player of the Game Brandon Saine was the real story as his hard running was rewarded when his busted through a lane for a 57 yard TD run. His final numbers were:
    17 for 139, 2 TD

Game of the Week - USC at OSU

    Columbus Ohio -

The rematch of last years battle in Los Angels in which the Buckeyes were dominated by the Trojans shifted to The Horseshoe and this game would be one for the ages. An Instant Classic in which the Buckeyes won on a 20 yard FG as time expired to take home a 37-35 win.

The game kicked off with a 85 yard kick return by J, Berry down inside the 10 of USC. T. Pryor would scramble on a 3rd down play and dive into the end zone to gibe the Bucks a 7-0 lead. The Trojans would take their opening position on an epic 15 play drive in which they dinked and dunked the Bucks dee all the way down field. The Bucks dee would hold firm allowing just 3 points. 7-3 Bucks.

The Bucks next position would end quickly as Pryor;s first pass was picked off by Pinkard who would return the gift for a TD. 10-7 USC
After a 3 and out for OSU, USC would march down the field again and score on a 20 yard pass from Corp to Patterson and the Trojans were looking unstoppable. 17-7 USC. end 1st Q

The 2nd quarter would shift to the Buckeyes dominated USC putting up 13 unanswered points which ended with an 8 yard strike to Ray Small for a 20-17 OSU lead to end the half.

The Bucks continued their domination of the Trojans offense as they only allow 3 points in the 3rd. the OSU offense managed to control the clock and took a long drive down which was capped off by a 10 yard pass to Herron. 27-20

In the 4th the Bucks would add another TD to start the quarter on a 22 yard pass from Pryor to Thomas making the score 34-20. At one point the score was 17-7 USC but during the 2nd and 3rd Q the Bucks outscored USC 27-3. But USC would pick it up in the 4th scoring on a 7 yard pass from Corp to Ellison. 34-27

After exchanging punts, the Bucks were pinned on their 1 yardline. A pitch play to Herron was snuffed out quickly as he was hammered in the end zone for the saftey to make the score 34-29

USC would drive right back down the field and score on a 2 yard C. Gable run. Being up 35-34 with the XP pending the Trojans went for 2 and threw a pass to Gable out of the backfield who was about to cross the goaline but was met by Coleman who hammered him at the 1 for what was the play of the game. Score 35-34 USC.

With a 1:40 seconds on the clock, Terrell Pryor calmly took control and looked like a season veteran as he audibled and adjusted to what the defense gave him. Several quick strikes to Small and Thomas quickly got them into FG position. USC tried to stop the clock to give themselves a chance to do something if they got the ball back, but it would be for not as Aaron Pettrey would hit the game winning FG as time expired. Final Score OSU 37 - USC 35

This early season loss is big for USC, but they have 10 games to make it up in the polls and keep hopes alive for a BCS Title. The win was huge for OSU as they attempt to get back the the Title game, but it was not without disappointment as they lost star running back Brandon Saine for 9 weeks with a knee injury.

Buckeyes Survive a Tough Badger Team
October 10, 2009 - Wisconsin Badgers at Ohio State Buckeyes

Through 3 quarters the Badgers kept it interesting and put fear into Ohio State. But the 4th quarter belonged to the Buckeyes who win this won 42-17.

The Badgers dominated the first half with their grind it out running game. John Clay was the star for Wisconsin going for 143 yards on 26 carries. The Bucks would start off the game with their spread attack marching right down field for an early 7-0 lead when Carter who was subbing for the injured Thomas was left wide open for a 3 yard TD pass from Pryor. Wisconsin would come right back behind the running of Clay and tie the game on a 2 yard Clay run.

The Bucks next drive saw more of the spread pasing attack which was capped off by a 21 yard TD pass to Washington to give the Buckeyes a 14-7 lead. Wisconsin's next drive would be stalled when FS Anderson Russel intercepted a pass from Tolzien and return it 66 yards for a TD giving OSU a commanding 21-7 lead.
But OSU could not stop John Clay. He would again lead the Badgers right back down the field and the Badgers would score to make it 21-14 at the half.

The first half was really dominated by Wisconsin in total yards, rushing and time of possession. But the one stat that matters was in favor of OSU.

The 2nd half was another story as Wisconsin would stall on their first drive of the 3rd and settle for a FG to make it 21-17. After that it was all Buckeyes behind 2 rushing TD's from Pryor and a 3rd TD run from Dan Herron. Wisconsin had their chances in the 2nd half, but the OSU dee came up with big stops when they needed them. Even with respectable passing numbers, Wisconsin QB and passing game let them down as Clay was the work horse but not enough to upset the Buckeyes.

The 3rd ranked Buckeyes will look to move to 7-0 next week when they travel to West Lafayette to take on Purdue
