Founded to preach the Gospel and combat heresy, the Dominican Order is famed for its intellectual tradition. The Black Friars Order was to address the needs of its time, bringing dedication and systematic education with organizational flexibility.
Providence Football is no different. Focused on on-field awareness, intelligent and dedicated off-field progression, and systematic program-wide improvement, the Providence College Friars Football Program is the Truth.

For the first time since 1941, Providence College is fielding a football program. Hired as a complete unknown, head coach ChildPlease9 has vowed to build a winning program from the ground up, competing for conference titles on an annual basis and forcing its way into college football's elite conferences. With a ragtag roster of junior college transfers, walk-ons, and students who have been away from the sport for years, Coach ChildPlease9 has his work cut out for him but seems to be up for the task. Regardless, the Friars must produce early results and prove value-added to the university, or the Order will pull the plug on the program

In the inaugural season of the rebirth of Providence football, the 2012 Friars look to be led by solid defensive play. Middle Linebacker and Team Captain Erick Smiley is the heart and soul of the team. Not only is the Massachusetts native the most talented player on the team, he plays a vital position in the team's 4-3 defense with a passion unparalleled in college football. Smiley is joined on the defensive side by a solid tandem of safeties. Senior Devron Mosby is a quick coverage safety who excelles in zone coverage and should prove to be very valuable playing the pass. Sophomore Free Safety Darnelle Sharpe is the future star of the defense and also excels in zone coverage. Although Sharpe lacks the footspeed of Mosby, his instincts put him in the position to make impact plays. Offensively, a senior-laden line should win its fair share of battles in the trenches with Senior captain and starting left tackle Kory Rawlins leading the charge in the run game. Following Rawlins blocks is a twosome of speedy backs in Sophomore Eric Pitts and Senior Kedrick Pruitt. The coaching staff will have a hard time keeping either off the field as both are far and away the best athletes on the offensive side of the ball. Calling the shots on offense is Junior Quarterback Rickey Elliott. Elliott has yet to earn the coaches' trust in the system and is more suited for a dropback scheme. Regardless, Elliott has won the job and will be directing the Friars' offense.

On the recruiting front, the coaching staff is looking to add impact players defensively and fighters in the trenches. The staff has made it clear that defense and offensive line play are the priorities, and without talented players in these positions, the program will never reach its desired heights. A focus has also been placed on creating pipelines in nearby talent-rich states. Regardless, the staff knows that this year's Friars team has the chance to make a huge statement by competing for the MAC Championship; success breeds success, and the Friars have a unique opportunity to create a winning culture from day one.

Providence Football Named After WWII Vet
PROVIDENCE, RI -- The Providence College Football Program has tastefully named its new half-billion dollar stadium after WWII vet and former Providence Football Star Joseph Vaghi. Vaghi was a member of the last team at Providence before departing for the World War. Vaghi was catastrophically injured on Omaha Beach during the D-Day invasions; despite his injuries, Vaghi successfully managed to save dozens of American lives on the beach after regaining consciousness. After 23 days in Normandy, Vaghi was sent back to the States before voluntarily returning to active duty.

Joseph Vaghi Stadium will seat 50,000 on the campus of Providence College and will feature an artificial turf playing surface. Construction is scheduled to be complete in time for the 2012 season.

To learn more about Joseph Vaghi, read or watch his story.

Half way through the inaugural season in the rebirth of Providence football, the Friars are simply average. Sitting at 3-2 (1-0), the Friars have added no recruits, nor have they had a season-defining victory. After blowing an early lead to Rutgers and putting together a phenomenal 21 point comeback with a chance to win vs. Delta State, Providence is sitting on two losses that could have very well gone the other direction. Regardless, the coaching staff has rededicated the team's offensive philosophy to an emphasis on the ground game, which paid off in a potent second half in the MAC opener vs. Bowling Green. Look for more ground and pound in the games to come, as the Friars look to contend for their first MAC East title.

Providence Friars Announce First-Ever Scholarship Commitment
The Providence Friars football coaching staff has announced the verbal commitment of its first-ever recruit, and it's a strong statement. Springfield Community College Safety Jimmy Silva, a true impact player on the defensive side of the ball, has shut down his recruitment and stated that Providence College is "the place to be." Silva is a quick playmaker with exceptional size and tackling ability. Silva excels in run support and will be a starter from the day he sets foot on campus.
