The Seminoles came out sloppy in their first game of the season, needing all four quarters to put away feisty East Carolina. The game started out a high note, as Soph OLB Kris Jones intercepted an ECU pass and returned it for a pick 6 TD in the first minute of the game in front of a frenzied crowd at Doak Campbell stadium. FSU would stop ECU to 3 and out on the next position. But, Sr QB Ken Holloway threw the ball behind a wide receiver and it was intercepted. Three plays later, ECU's slot receiver broke 3 tackles on a 3rd and long and scored a 54 yard TD.

FSU would drive to start the 2nd quarter and score on a Holloway to Soph WR Ken Hicks connection, to take a 14-6 lead (ECU missed their extra point). ECU would again catch lightning in a bottle, as their RB pinballed of 4 FSU defenders to score another long range TD. ECU would add the 2 point conversion to tie the game. FSU would threaten at the end of the half, but the 2nd of 3 sacks on Holloway took the Noles out of FG range.

The Seminoles went on a 12 play, 70 yard drive to take the lead on their first drive of the 3rd quarter. FSU could not stop the ECU offense on the ensuing possession and the Pirates tied the game 21-21. FSU drove to the ECU 18 on the next drive, but Soph K Erik Long missed a 35 yard FG from the right hash.

The FSU defense bent a bit on the next possession, but made a big 4th quarter stop. The offense scored a TD on the next drive, powered by the running game. The drive was capped off by Sr FB Corey Mobley's 4 yard TD. FSU would register a sack on a 4th and long on ECU's next possession. The offense was able to run out the clock for the victory.

Love the pancakes. I generally lose that battle about 30 to 2. About every other week, a rushing record is set against my D.

The game was scoreless at the end of the first quarter with the teams trading multiple punts. Then, the computer decided it would pancake my defense on every play. Overall, the Tarheel offense would have 35 pancakes on 30 rushing attempts. UNC finished the day with 368 rushing yards and 6 rushing TD. UNC would sprinkle in 200 passing yards on 15 completions and 22 attempts. I almost forgot to mention, UNC was using their back-up RB, who had 27 carries for 375 yards and 6 TD.

The rest of FSU's defense was pancaked on the play. However, the FSU defense was only pancaked 25 times this game, which was an improvement from the previous week. Both of FSU's TDs came via the run. Seminole fans knew the game was not going in the right direction on the first drive. The Seminoles took the opening kickoff down to the Miami 7. On a first down play, Sr QB Ken Holloway hit Sr WR Matt Walker in the hands on a slant on the FSU 1 yard line, but the ball bounced off his hands and into the arms of Miami's safety. It would be the first of 5 turnovers, including a fumble by Jr HB Kevin Vaughn and 4 INT by Holloway. The FSU defense played well at times, but was unable to stop the Hurricane TEs on playaction. FSU would take their first lead of the game, 21-20 early in the 4th quarter. But, Miami would drive the ball down the field and kick a field goal, leaving only 50 seconds left. FSU would have a good return nullified on a clipping call on the ensuing kickoff. Holloway would connect with receivers for 2 straight first downs, to move the ball close to midfield with 17 seconds left. But, he was intercepted after overthrowing his wide receiver on a 9 route.

The game started off terribly from the get go. Clemson pancaked 4 or 5 FSU defenders on the first play from scrimmage, and their freshman RB frolicked his way to a 68 yard TD. FSU would answer with a 12 play 70 yard drive to tie the score. Clemson would throw an incomplete pass on 1st down on their next possession. On 2nd down, the pancake parade continued, with the freshman HB running for 73 yards and a TD. Clemson would go up 21-7, after the Noles were stopped on a 4th and 1. FSU would score late in the 2nd quarter on one of Jr RB Kevin Vaughn's 3 rushing TD. Vaughn also added 1 receiving TD.

In the second half, FSU received the ball and went on a 13 play 75 yard drive to tie the score on another Vaughn run. The defense held Clemson to 3 and out on their next possession, but Sr QB Ken Holloway wanted to perform his best Steve Bellisari / Stanley Jackson QB performance, throwing his first of 2 pick 6's. Clemson would add another rushing TD for good measure and then return another INT for a TD the last play of the game.

A couple of the FSU offensive linemen developed whiplash during this game. They could not turn their heads around quickly enough to watch the man they were supposed to block run past them. Clemson registered 30 pancakes on only 24 rushes.

FSU was hampered by an early injury to starting HB Vaughn, an OL that couldn't block, a turnover prone QB, redzone turnovers, and a front 7 that was on their knees more than Paris Hilton. This was a frustrating game for the fans at Doak Campbell.

The Seminoles defeat the Volunteers in front of a large crowd in cold temperatures. Coach AbolishtheFed was able to give the troops some cold weather tips, like putting tape over the helmet earholes, having bench players hold hand warmers to give to starters when they come off the field, etc. The contest was hard fought by both teams. However, UT's 2 turnovers were the difference in the game. Also, the Seminole front 7 was more steady, only being pancaked 15 times.

Thanks, Hova. This team may be improved next year. I have a good core returning - my leading rusher and receiver, plus some solid defensive guys. And, I signed a couple JUCO guys on defense last year that couldn't play this year. Plus, I return my entire offensive line.
