The Rivalry: Gameplay and Recruiting Rules

    Gameplay Rules

First and foremost, this is a sim dynasty and no cheese will be tolerated. Try and play a realistic game of football. Be respectful of your opponent.

Dont complain and bitch about other guys on the forum. If you have an issue with someone, please try and work it out. Talk on XBL or PM on the forums. If you cant work it out, PM me and I will deal with it. I have 4 kids, so I dont want to play babysitter.
But one very important thing to remember is not to flame each other on the forums. Having a discussion is fine as long as it doesn't turn insulting.

    General Rules
No Restarts. There is no tolerance for restarting. If an emergency happens and you have no choice but stop playing, you must PM me and let me know. Myself and your fellow owners are always going to be online and will know if this happens. So dont do it.
EDIT: After discussion of restarts, I wanted to stress even more that players must PM me if they have a restart.
The OD screen makes it VERY clear every week if you start your game more than once...

    All Formation Subs are allowed.

Disconnects: User vs User games can drop as we all know. If this happens, the 2 Coaches should work together to find a fair solution. Start the game over if you have too. If you can not resolve this on your own, both players should PM me so I can work a solution.

Going for it on 4th Down: We encourage straight play in this league, however, we do not want to limit players to the point where they cannot play aggressively. Play realistically so I dont have to make up a rule here.
Punt on your side of the field. When on your opponent's side of the 50, keep it realistic. You really should NOT be going for it unless your in that 25-35 yardline range of your opponent and its within a few yards (4th and 5 or less).
If your trailing in the 4th you can do what you feel you have to do on 4th down.

Goaline Offense: Can be used inside the 5 yardline. Or 4th and 1 or less.
EXCEPTION: If you feel your in a situation that warrants the use of the goaline formation, go ahead and use it.

Motioning: Motioning by backs and receivers is allowed. If the defense audibles before your motion is complete you must wait for the defense to get reset before snapping the ball, when possible. Otherwise, you are free to snap the ball when the Motion man reaches their spot on the field and the motion is complete.

Hurry Up Offense: All teams are allowed to run the "hurry up" offense in both two minute drill situations. Any team losing in the 4th quarter is permitted to hurry up as often as they like. When using the hurry up offense, please allow your opponent to set their defense before snapping the ball. Purposely trying to cause offsides penalties is obviously prohibited. If the playclock is stopped you must huddle up.

Playclock Rule: We using 7 min Quarters. Try to avoid milking the clock until 3 mins or less in the 4th.

Playcalling, Mixing It Up, Play Action: Owners are expected to mix up plays on both offense AND defense. If your team falls behind early in the game, it's understandable if you become a one-dimensional offense with your passing game. As long as the game is close, we expect all box scores to reflect a concerted effort at reasonable play calling.
Also, keep in mind it is unrealistic to call a PA Pass when it is 3rd down and more than 10. You may call a designed PA play and audible your RB to block or go into a pattern to stop the Playaction. Overuse of this or any other plays/patterns will be frowned upon.

QB Scrambling: Unrealistic QB scrambling/sprinting is frowned upon on pass plays, including screens. Constantly dancing from sideline to sideline, running straight backwards or well behind the line of scrimmage without being under pressure is not realistic. This does not include option plays, designed QB runs or broken/pressured play situations.

Running Up the Score: Good sportsmanship is a major part of The Rivalry, so running up the score on user opponents will not be tolerated. Please use good judgment when leading by a large margin, even when playing the CPU..

    Scoring Cap is 60

    #1 - Run/Pass Commit - BANNED

#2 - Banning the 1-5-5 - In User vs User games

    Mix up your playcalling.

    All Standard Shifts are allowed.

Moving Players before snap: You can move 1 player manually before the snap, but you must control that player during the play.

You may not move a Defensive Linemen off the Line of Scrimmage. You may not move a Defensive Linemen outside of the "spread" line shift.

Blitzing: While blitzing is certainly a part of the game, please be realistic when doing so. Any attempt to confuse the AI when blitzing is prohibited.

    No Audbling down.
    No Quarter/Dime to Nickle/3-4/4-3
    No Nickle to 3-4/4-3
Dont make me type out all those other formations, those all fall under 4-3 and 3-4.
EXCEPTION: When the offense is calling a hurry up you can audible down if needed.

Fake Punts and FG’s: Any fake punt or field goal must follow the same rule used when going for it on fourth down. If you are allowed to go for it on 4th down in that situation, you can also fake the punt or field goal. Faking a FG or punt is part of the game and provides "the element of surprise," but please be realistic. These are utilized in NCAA but on a limited basis, so please keep that in mind.

Onside Kicks: Onside kicks are permitted at any time by the losing team in the 4th quarter only.

***All of the above rules are subject to change***

    Week Advances

We will follow a strict advance policy of a max week duration of 72 hours. If there are a few games remaining and there has been effort in scheduling the game in the scheduling thread then the deadline can be extended. The goal s to keep the dynasty moving swiftly and not have any long lags in between weeks.

The league will never wait on a player to just do their recruiting unless that person is out of town and will be back within the 72 hours and he asked that we wait. If you have a bye, spend 5-10 minutes and get your recruiting in, because if everyone else has had time to play their games and their is only one player with recruiting left, we will advance.

If all 11 of the 12 league players have finished their games within 24 hours, and their is one guy who has a game against a CPU left, he has 24 hours to get his game in, or 24 hours to post that he needs the full 72 hours. If he does that he will be given the full 72 hours, once again this will be posted on the league message board that he has 24 hours to play his game, and as long as the member posts that he needs the time it won't be a problem.

USER vs USER games, these are league killers, we all enjoy them but they can halt a dynasty in its tracks. We will have a game scheduling thread on the message board, and I want Users obviously scheduling those games on the message board. Also, I want the next week User's trying to schedule as well.

Offseason advancing - We will try and schedule a night once bowl season begins to do offseason stuff, with 12 people it can be very difficult, but we will try. If that can't be done, we will work out a hard and fast schedule that will not be altered.

    Recruting And Off-season Rules

    #1 - Recruiting

We recognize that players have a significant recruiting advantage over the CPU, and we have established a few rules in an attempt to preserve some kind of balance.

    Senior's Leaving School

    1. Players are allowed to recruit 3 over the 70 player cap. Meaning you can have a total of 73 players without being penalized.

    2. Players may recruit 4 Five-Star players each year. You can lose recruits with the penalty system. (See Below)

    3. Players can take a number of four-star recruits equal to half the total number of Senior players leaving that year. This number is rounded in favor of the Team when necessary (ex. A class of 17 would have nine fours rather than eight).

    Underclassmen Leaving School

    1. For each Underclassmen that leaves you will be awarded a 4 star recruit to replace him. Since you wont know about underclassmen who leave until the end of the year, Teams will just have to wait and see who leaves.

    2. A Team will not be allowed to attempt to sway a player from the pro draft if he:
    • is > 95 OVR
    • is a JR that has ever won the Heisman in his career
    • is a JR or SO(RS) and has ever won a major award (Thorpe, Maxwell, Biletnikoff, etc) in his career and is > 90 OVR
Kickers and punters can be swayed from pro draft regardless of OVR and class.

    Penalty System
Each coach can be penalized recruits for Breaking Rules as follows
    • Miss a member vs. member games:
    • 1st Offense: Lose 10 hours of Recruiting Time
    • 2nd Offense: Lose a 5 Star Recruit and 10 hours of Recruiting Time
    • 3rd Offense: Replaced
    • Recruiting Violations:
    • 1st Offense - Lose a 5 Star Recruit
    • 2nd Offense: Lose a 5 Star Recruit and a 4 Star Recruit
    • 3rd Offense: Replaced
    • Position Changes Violations:
    • 1st Offense - Lose a 5 Star Recruit
    • 2nd Offense: Lose a 5 Star Recruit and a 4 Star Recruit
    • 3rd Offense: Replaced
    • Any Player with Excessive Penalties will be replaced

    #2 - Switching Schools and/or Conferences

    1. Each Coach must stay at their chosen school a minimum of 3 seasons to be considered for a switch. If you have coached a Team more then 3 years then we will use the past year years.

      - In Addition, must also achieve one of these accomplishments in those 3 seasons
    2. If you are voted "Coach of the Year"
    3. If you won the National Championship
    4. If you won your Conference 2 out of 3 years
    5. If you won 3/3 Bowl Games

    #3 - Scholarships

The amount of scholarships that can be offered at any given time will be dictated by the following formula:

A = number of seniors on your team that will graduate
B = number of underclassmen that qualify for pro draft with aforementioned rules. So underclassmen that are 90+ and have won an award.
C = number of walk-ons on your team. Walk-ons may be cut at any time.
D = 70 - current amount of players currently on roster
    E = Cushion (3 players)

    A + B + C + D + E = total number of available scholarships.

If you have more players committed than roster spots you will be penalized recruiting time in the next season.

1st offense - 10 hours of recruiting time per recruit
2nd offense - 20 hours of recruiting time per recruit
    3rd offense - Bye Bye
Note: Committed players count against your scholarship limit.

    #4 - Position Changes

    RB: No Restrictions
    FB: Restricted
    Weight restriction > 220 lbs
