The Cardinal Defense overwhelms San Jose State and cruises to an easy 42-10 win.
The Stanford Cardinal started their season off with a dominating 42-10 win. Their defense was too much for the San Jose State offense as they got to the QB with ease and piled up 8 sacks on the day. SJSU was only able to manage 77 yards of total offense on they day. Star LOLB Chase Thomas had 3 sacks himself to go along with 8 tackles, 6 TFL and a forced fumble and was named player of the game.

The Stanford offense was not as sharp today, as QB Brett Nottingham was only 11/21 for 136 yards with 2 Tds and 2 Ints. Stepfan Taylor had a nice day with 85 yards and 2 Tds on 18 carries.

The only TD scored by San Jose State came on a kickoff return taken back 97 yards for a TD by Chandler Jones.

    Total Stats :

    Stanford -
    307 Total Yards
    136 Passing, 171 Rushing

    SJSU -
    77 Total Yards
    36 Passing, 41 Rushing

Next week Stanford stays home and welcomes The Duke Blue Devils.

Stanford's Defense dominates. Shuts out Duke.
The Stanford offense got off to a slow start and these teams were both scoreless midway through the 2nd quarter. Stanford Punter Daniel Zychlinski would pin Duke inside their own 3 yard line and Stanford LB Blake Lueders would bust his way into the backfield and force a safety giving the Cardinal a 2-0 lead. Stanford would extend that lead to 16-0 at the half with a couple of TD throws by Nottingham.

The second half would be alot like the first as Stanford would tack on 17 more and cruise to a 33-0 win over Duke. QB Brett Nottingham would be named player of the game as he threw for over 200 yards and scored 3 TDs.

    Stanford Stats

QB Brett Nottingham 12/21 218 yards 2 TD, 1 Rushing TD
RB Stepfan Taylor 17 car 100 yards 1 TD
WR Drew Terrell 3 recs 73 yards
WR Ty Montgomery 3 recs 60 yards 1 TD

    Total Stats :

    Stanford
    352 Total Yards
    218 Passing, 134 Rushing

    Duke
    195 Total Yards
    119 Passing, 76 Rushing

Next Week Stanford finally will get its first true test of the year, as they welcome the #2 USC Trojans to town.

The Cardinal get a huge early season win behind a great defensive effort.
This game started out with great defensive play by both teams resulting in a a scoreless first quarter. The Stanford offense was held in check early by alot of USC blitzes, which Stanford was not prepared for going into this game. After Stanford adjusted to the blitzes, they started to get the offense going and got on the board first with a 1 yard TD run by Stepfan Taylor. With time running out in the first half USC got a big break as Matt Barkley connected with Marquis Lee on a deep jump ball and Lee broke a tackle and scored a 59 yard TD witch tied the game back up a 7 with only 46 seconds left in the first half. Stanford answered back immediately, as CB Usua Amanam took the ensuing kickoff back 94 yards for a big TD with 36 seconds left in the half giving Stanford a 14-7 lead and alot of momentum going into the second half.
The Stanford defense kept the potent USC offense in check in the second half and Stanford stretched their lead 14 with another Taylor TD, this one from 19 yards out. The Cardinal would close out the third quarter in style with a 32 yard TD pass from Nottingham to Drew Terrell giving them a commanding 28-7 lead going into the final quarter. Stanford would hit a couple of short FGs in the fourth quarter giving them a 34-7 lead. USC would get another Marquis Lee TD catch, this one with only 11 seconds left in the game and making the final score Stanford 34 USC 14.
