COOPER RECOVERS FROM INJURY, DOESN'T GET REDSHIRT

SR HB #2 Graig Cooper (above) will be wearing the Hurricane Uniform for the last time this season

From week 2 of the season SR HB Graig Cooper has been unable to play because of a broken jaw he suffered in the 9-22 loss to Ohio State. He only has 43 yards on 15 carries on the year. The University of Miami Athletic Director alongside of Head Coach Frisk, have been working closely with Cooper and the NCAA to obtain a Medical Redshirt, or a "Medical Hardship."

A medical redshirt may be obtained to replace a season lost to injury and can be granted by the governing body for a season lost completely or almost completely to injury. A medical redshirt can allow a player to gain additional eligibility beyond the standard four academic calendar years. On rare occasions, a player may be allowed to play in his or her sixth year of college if he or she suffered a serious injury which kept him or her from playing for more than one season.

It is now week 11 and the Cooper has been cleared by the doctors to play in the remaining 3 games this season, as well as a potential championship game and/or bowl game. With this being said, the NCAA has denied Cooper's request for a medical hardship.

Cooper will suit up to play this saturday against the Maryland Terrappins. He is said to get some carries but it is undecided if he will get the start.

CANES ANNOUNCE FIRST WAVE OF RECRUITS

CANES ANNOUNCE FIRST WAVE OF 2010 RECRUITS

Head Coach Frisk announced Saturday after the game the latest commits. Check them out below....

    HARD COMMITS

    :4stars: #3 QB Bobby Johnson (6'5" 197 Hollywood, FL)
Bobby will come into camp most likely as the 3rd string QB depending on Jacory Harris status on the team. He will contribute with C+ speed, B Throw power, C+ Agility, and C+ Accuracy. Look for him to contend for the starting job with SO AJ Highsmith in the next few years

    :4stars: #8 G Walter Butler (6'5" 302 Mulberry, FL)
With many seniors leaving Walter is expected to step right in here in the next couple years. He has B strength, B- impact blocking, and B- run and pass block.

:4stars: #6 ATH Darin Williams (6'1" 190 West Odessa, TX)
Darin chose to come to leave his home state of texas and come to Miami. He has B+ speed, B- agility, and B- Break Tackle. The coaches are unaware of his positions but look for him to build into a quality player.

:4stars: #9 FS Ralph Bostic (6'1" 186 Forest Hill, TX)
Ralph chose Miami over Texas, most interested in the ACC conference. He has B man coverage, and B agility. The coaches may move him to SS.

    :3stars: #7 C Steve Townsend (6'2" 280 Greenacres City, FL)
Although Steve is a 3 star athlete the coaches believe he will develop into one of Miami's greatest OL. He has B+ strength, B run and pass block, as well as B impact blocking. He is a stong player who will anchor the team in a few years.

:4stars: #11 ATH Pat Thompson (6'11" 212 Fairview Shores, FL)
Pat is leaning towards Miami and told Head Coach Frisk he was coming after watching the Baylor game on TV two saturday's ago. He has B+ speed, B agility, and B- route running. Coaches have seen him play on both side of the ball in HS and think they might slot him as a receiver.

    SOFT COMMITS

    :4stars: #7 HB Reggie Royal (6'2" 184 Trenton, NJ)
Reggie is being heavily recruited by Penn State, Michigan, Florida, and Texas. He decided to commit to the U because of the combination of Conference Prestige and Pro Potential Miami brings to the table. Reggie has B+ Speed, B Acceleration and Elusiveness. If the very talented Miami backfield lose 2 or three RB's due to the Pro Draft, Look for Royal to get solid playing time next year.

:4stars: #16 TE Patrick Barnes (6'6" 244 Coral Terrace, FL)
Patrick is a very strong and powerful Tight End. He has average speed but what makes him most appealing to Coach Frisk is his B catching and A- stamina. The Hurricanes like to use tight end sets to help establish the run game as well as the pass. Look for this dual threat Tight End to produce in a year or two.

    :4stars: #17 CB Gary Jackson (6'0" 174 Marathon, FL)
This talented young CB decided to stay close to home. Receiving scholarship offers from Miami, Florida, and Florida St, Gary ultimately chose Miami because of the campus lifestyle and proximity to home. Gary will contribute to the Miami secondary with B man coverage, B- press coverage, B agility, and B jumping.

In other news, the NCAA is launching an investigation into the "U"'s recruiting practices. Rumors swirling on internet message board suggest that Miami could be docked 5 scholarships per year.

:4stars: #7 MLB Cole McCarty (5'10" 247lbs. Boca Raton, FL)
Cole is a JUCO transfer and a good one. He will step in with the Miami LBs and compete at the D1 level. He has C+ speed, B- Tackle, Block Shedding, Agility, Stamina, and strength. Look for him to fit in with the Miami Linebackers.

    :4stars: #7 SS Andrew Smith (6'2" 205lbs. Natchitoches, LA)

With many LB's leaving Miami in the next few years he is expected to step up as an underclassmen and perform.

    MIAMI SIGNS RIVERA

The "U" and Head Coach Frisk announced the signing of standout HB Carlos Rivera and verbal commitment of LB Michael Pennington.

"Carlos is a very quick and strong young man. We will be losing some of our more skilled backs here in the next year so I expect him to make an impact very soon." stated Frisk about Rivera.

"Michael might be one of our most exciting recruits. He will be coming into camp with a lot of ability and we expect him to step up early in his career. He reminds me of Arthur Brown who came into camp as a 85 OVR." Frisk commented on Pennington.

You can find more stats and details about Hurricane recruits on the thread.

Junior Quarterback AJ Highsmith will get the start against Duke

After a heartbreaking and dominating loss to rival Florida State, Coach Frisk has announced that Junior AJ Highsmith will be the U's new starter.

" AJ has done a tremendous job in practice and has progressed well since the beginning of my tenure. Last year he saw sometime but was originally beat out this season by Taylor (Cook). We are giving AJ a chance to show us what he has because we are still looking for out leader on the field, " stated Frisk at the press conference on Sunday.
