OFFENSE: Key injuries and youth had a lot to do with a rough start for coach Frisk in his initial season at WSU last year. Sophomore QB J.T. Levenseller but returns no experience at the RB position. WR Gino Simone will have to emerge as a receiving threat. WSU hopes the offensive line will be a strength as 3 starters return led by Senior Captain G Mike Bruce.

DEFENSE: The Cougars need to shore up a defense that allowed a lot of points and yards last year. Replacements must be found for some departed standouts on the line and at linebacker. The strength of the unit could be pre-season 1st Team All-Pac 10 DT Chris Mackay , ROLB Matt Wynn and 2nd Team All-Pac 10 LE Marcus Rodgers and LOLB Louis Bland.

THE SCHEDULE: Washington State takes on Notre Dame at home week 4. Pac-10 play finds the Cougars on the road for ASU, UCLA, Stanford and Oregon State.
