    Toledo Rockets Summaries

    WEEK 4 TOLEDO @ FIU

(Lost my original write up this is make shift)

The Rockets came out firing grabbing an early 7-0 lead but FIU would not be denied at home. They quickly tied it at 7-7, Toledo didn't hesitat and made the lead 21-7 relatively quick and at the half led 28-14. FIU was no longer interested in these games holding Toledo to 3 points in the cutting it to 31-28 before the 4th and a 71 yard run by the RB Owens gave them their first lead of the game. Cool and composed as ever Aaron Opelt and the defense regained the lead 38-35. With 2 minute on the clock on 3rd and 9 DeJuane Collins decided to put the game away with a straight run for 64 yards and the score 45-35 would be your final.

    Toledo 41, Ball State 27

Toledo overcomes slow start, and abysmal run game

Toledo came out stiff and was not expecting a fire from Ball State. After a couple of plays, Toledo had thrown a pick six. On the ensuing kickoff, Eric Page fumbled and lost the ball which was returned for a TD making the score 14-0. However, after review the fumble return was brought back. The Ball State team was still feeling it though and forced a three and out. The Punt was inside the 15 yard line and it should have been a fair catch. However, the confidence erupting within Ball State the returner took the ball and Barry Church made him pay laying a HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE HIT causing the fumble returned for a TD, making the score 7-7. Trading back and forth scores led to a 21-20 halftime score.

Halftime led to defensive adjustments, the third quarter saw one score which was a FG by Toledo. 24-20 going into the 4th. A long drive led to a TD by Toledo on an Opelt pass to Bailey. 31-20 seemed to be enough to put it away. A bad pass gave Toledo the interception and more of a chance to run clock leading to a FG making it 34-20. Toledo looked to be in it's prevent defense giving up yards and Des Morrow intercepted the ball but three time outs and being deep in their own territory Toledo was unable to finish the clock off. They were forced to punt, another bad throw gave an interception to Morrow yet again this one he took back to the house. 41-20 seemed to be all she wrote for Ball State but a screen pass with 10 seconds left led to a score leaving one second on the clock. Toledo recovered the onside kick and locked up the win 41-27.

    Toledo 26, W. Michigan 24

Poor special teams keeps W. Michigan around. Toledo holds on to go 6-0

With rain the conditions were rough in Toledo. Toledo found a decent rhythm on it's third drive to go to Cortazzo on the score. The missed extra point(Jammed right stick) gave Toledo a 6-0 lead. Toledo forced a 3 and out but on the punt return, Williams fumbled and it was returned for TD 7-6 lead for Toledo found Cortazzo again, and missed the 2 pt conversion. Going into the half Toledo was holding on with a 12-10 lead.

The Second half saw a little more, action as Toledo scored on it's first drive going 19-10. Simply refusing to lay down W. Michigan and QB Hiller kept passing down the field and made it 19-17. Toledo found a strong running game in order to get in to the TD one more time making it 26-17, Once again W. Michigan answered back and with 2 and a half minutes left. 26-24, Toledo was forced to another 3 and out by the W. Michigan defense. So with a minute twelve left on the clock. W. Michigan went for the score in order to get the win. With no timeouts the no huddle offense Hiller forced a pass, and Des Morrow the star CB made his 7th pick of the year in order to seal the victory for the Rockets.
