I thought that deal made some sense for both sides. Cleveland's farm system sucks, so if they're gonna make noise, it has to be now. Nelson Cruz is a nice piece, but the big part has to be Cahill. That sub-3 ERA is nice, and while you'd expect some regression (and maybe a little extra with the move to the AL), the 3.65-ish FIP that he's put up in the desert seem to indicate that he can be a very very solid piece of the rotation going forward for Cleveland. The really good news for Cahill is that most of his gains in FIP can be directly attributable to his decrease in his HR rate. Despite the fact that he's moving to the AL, the AL Central hits far fewer deep balls than the NL West anyhow, so if anything he should be able to get even more improvement to his HR/9 rate. He will end up giving up more hits without the strong Dback infield defense behind him and with the DH to worry about, but there's not really much of a reason for me to think that Cahill won't be able to sustain his strong peripherals in Cleveland. It should also push Arroyo's old ass out of the rotation, so it represents a major upgrade. Arizona is pretty much swinging for the fences on this one. Tolentino is a superstar if he hits (obviously) but I think the probability isn't great. The advanced age doesn't scare me as much as it may scare off others since he just doesn't have that many ABs as a professional yet. He's a "young" 25 if that makes sense. What scares me most about Tolentino is that he just doesn't produce. He showed flashes in AA for Cleveland and then had a very hot start in A ball in Arizona, but I don't know that 30 non-consecutive games during a year is really proof of anything yet. Cole should probably think about pushing him a little bit and seeing what he can do at an advanced minor league level fairly soon. How's that for "expert" analysis?
Wasn't a trade but for me best deal was getting rid of soriano contract and not having to pay it. Thanks to a cards owner
Milwaukee sends: 3B Michael Mosby 40 man roster - 1* current/4* potential http://traditionsportsonline.com/tso-ootp/reports/html/players/player_34055.html MR Chen Lee MLB - 2* current/ 2* potential http://traditionsportsonline.com/tso-ootp/reports/html/players/player_32728.html Tampa sends: Phillip Wunderlich - MLB - 3.5* current/3.5* potential http://traditionsportsonline.com/tso-ootp/reports/html/players/player_34564.html
Its not too bad imo. I guess you're taking a gamble that Mosby doesnt meet his potential. If hes willing to take that chance then thats his problem.
Not really.. Just a 30yr old guy I signed for 3 years. Mosby has issues, sure but I'll give him time. The big thing being I needed I guy I could depend on in the bullpen and if some of you don't like Chen, that's fine but I've been offering Wunderlich all off-season and only one person showed any interest so it get's annoying to hear people complain about the trade. I have a guy I like better to take Wundy's spot on the roster also.

Hugely favors Milwaukee in my opinion. White Sox get a glorified closer, a decent power hitter who will hit .250 in the bigs, and an overpaid catcher. Honestly my favorite player that the Chisox get is Rich Courtney. He'll develop into a solid fielder and looks like he should be a solid hitter as well. Smooth on the other hand picks up a stud catcher, and a decently young closer that should put together some solid years.
I think CWS did just fine in the deal. Kevin Smith is over-rated and his value will only go down if you ask me. He's coming off a 1.3 WAR season and has a career wOBA around .340. I can see him as a future platoon C if you ask me, he hits LHP very well but will continue to decline vs RHP. I hate trading for RP but Reed is a nice addition and a very good closer. The prospects are nothing too great. William Scott has a chance to be a 3+ WAR player with that range and power. Charette is basically a younger replacement for Reed. Courtney should at least be a 4th OF and possibly more with his high WE and INT.
San Diego send; Marvin Hegwood - 2B - ML - $8.5 M - http://traditionsportsonline.com/tso-ootp/reports/html/players/player_31836.html Geovany Soto - C - ML - $20 M - http://traditionsportsonline.com/tso-ootp/reports/html/players/player_18912.html Arizona sends; Mike Smith - SP - ML - $480 K - http://traditionsportsonline.com/tso-ootp/reports/html/players/player_32114.html James Jones - CL - AAA (Reno) - $480 K - http://traditionsportsonline.com/tso-ootp/reports/html/players/player_36267.html Ron Harper - C - AAA (Reno) - Minor - http://traditionsportsonline.com/tso-ootp/reports/html/players/player_34696.html Andy Dailey - SP - AA (Mobile) - Minor - http://traditionsportsonline.com/tso-ootp/reports/html/players/player_29240.html NeuroticTruth Colemanchu Care to discuss the above trade?
Here is my viewpoint. 1. Soto wasnt going to last with me after this year. Trading him now saves me from spending $5 mil to buy out his contract. The addition of Harper to the trade is purely just to give me a a usable backup behind Kral. 2. While Hegwood is a beast, hes a bit injury prone. Also, I resigned him to a long term deal last year (which is VERY heavily back loaded). While I could have afford him for the next 3 years, the 2nd half of his contract would have been very hard to manage for me. Also, I'm deep with IF prospects, so I wont really have a hard time trying to replace him. 3. I get what I've desperately been needing, pitching help. My starting rotation is atrocious outside of Joe Ross and Smith will come in and from day one be my ace. James Jones also fits a need at closer that I've been trying to fill ever since Axford landed on the DL (he's also was blowing saves like crazy before he got hurt). Dailey is simply a depth addition to the trade. At 19 hes a decent prospect and with his high character traits, I'm hoping he'll develop further. 4. I know I got a little trade raped here, as Hegwood is arguably one of the best 2B in the game. The way I see it though, I got rid of two monster contracts that were / would very soon be plaguing my rebuilding efforts, and I got a good foundation of what I'm trying to build on, my starting pitching.
