ryalaman NeuroticTruth IMO this is an awful trade. Unfortunately I told NT to wait, and he did it anyhow. Complete fleece job here. Rule #1 if you dont know what you are doing... is ask for advice. If you ask for advice and you don't listen. That's on you.
Please, Ramirez is a 2.5 WAR player in SD. I'd bet my life savings that Cedneo is better than that even if he doesn't ever progress. SD is a better team now than they were before the trade. Looking at stars is lazy analysis at best.
Sometimes not making a deal is better than making a deal. We still had 4? sims until the trade deadline, and ryal's offer likely still would have been there then. If you get something better awesome. If not, then make the deal with him. I don't think it was an awful trade, Cedeno should be a monster at Petco, but I do think you could have squeezed more out of somebody else closer to the deadline.
To say that he could've waited is fine and all, but a part of the reason I made the deal was so I could get back into the WC hunt. I may still make the deal at the deadline even if I continue to suck, but its a deal that makes SD a better team. I'm not sure why its a fleece job. SD is better since Cedneo fits their club better, and Ramirez fits mine better.
This. And, Ramirez was still under team control. He wan't going to be a free agent either. I just think you shoudl see what other offers you could have gotten. Ramirez was the BEST player you have to rebuild your farm system by a MILE. Once he is gone, you're not going to get many other quality players. If someone wanted him bad enough they would have paid for him. This deal just stinks. Raj undervalues everyone but his own players and can talk anyone into believing his bullshit. Which is why I said wait.
Where are these kind of deals when i want to trade? Oh wait, i'm normally the dummy that trades the 5 star player for nothing...
No you probably make good trades. OOTP just decides that Cleveland can't have nice things and they suffer career ending injuries or something.
If you're looking at stars, then yeah, I won the deal convincingly. I'm not sure why its so ridiculous to look at actual stats though.
I am the most vocal proponent of weighing stats of anyone, so dont give me that shit. But San Diego's park factors kill left hand power hitters. His splits for this season alone showed a +.200 OPS. And the season isnt over. He had one year he hit 34 bombs. Id love to see those home/road splits
Ramirez might of been able to fetch better but I don't see this as a fleece job. Cedano fits the park a lot more than Ramirez. Cedano has gap power, contact, speed and defense which should play well. A couple of MR prospects coming along make it pretty even but another positional or SP prospect probably would of swung it for SD imo. I can understand why NT pulled the move.
He also put up a .310 OBP in the year that he hit 34 bombs. His absolute peak at this point has been a 3 WAR season. Cedneo will be better than that in SD, and he gets a few smaller BP pieces who should combine for a shade over 1.5 WAR a year. The home/road splits are interesting, and they're part of the reason I wanted Ramirez. But if we're evaluating the deal from the Padres perspective, we must acknowledge that Petco is the park that they're playing in, and because of that, the Padres are a better team today than they were yesterday.
So am I the only non-invovled person that thinks this is a good trade for San Diego? Ramirez, while being a 5 star player, has shown himself to be a Carlos Pena type player. A low OBP with high power. His batting average has been dropping in 3 consecutive seasons in San Diego. And at 28 years old, he's not going to all of a sudden turn it around even though his ratings say he should be better, imo. And while he's under team control, he's also about to hit arbitration so his salary is about to rise. I also don't like his personality at all. In addition to opening up a spot for a very good 1B prospect, the Padres get immediate help in the bullpen(one of their biggest needs), a very good LF that is much better suited for Petco, and 3 solid pitchers that can make a difference down the line.
I didn't really think it was a bad trade. Power hitting 1B are a dime a dozen, and if you don't have one come ask me.

While I do think the trade favors the Twins because of Martinez, I dont think its a terrible trade. The Twins are clearly getting the better deal imo, but overall not a horrible swap.
I don't get the trade for Chicago. Why they need to trade an ace who is so young is beyond me. Minnesota wins this trade easily.
Twins get a right handed Berde (same progression pattern and everything) and get rid of Hart's terrible deal for a 3 tool player, well played by them.
Not sure if it helps for me to break it down what my vision was for argument of debate. Or that me doing so blows my strategy to the league. But I will say that he got a hell of a player and I wish Minnesota good luck in the deal
That's part of the fun in this thread... Let it all hang out there man... Lawson is a hell of a player... But at what cost?
