McPherson is the best player in the dal, still young and cost controlled. Estrada should be atleast an above average bat, not great defensively. Not too excited about Trujilo and Vignal should help Atlanta win now. Fairly even trade imo but I give Atlanta the edge based on McPherson.
Bump. Some big names moving this offseason. Obviously there was the big 3 team trade. And also top prospect out of Toronto, Sergio Cartajena is on the move to Chicago. I still need to figure out what the hell to think about the 3 teamer, but I like it for San Diego for now. They should have one of the best middle Infields in baseball. The Flipper trade I think is a big win for sonn. Sorry soxandgators I just don't see Flipper developing unless he's a very late bloomer. His development has been really slow thus far, and I definitely don't see him developing all of that power at this point.
In terms of the three team trade I'm leaning towards Boston being the beneficiary of the best deal in terms of pure quality which cant hurt for a rebuilding team. LAA probably got the best deal in terms of quality of the players received. For me I'm clearly giving up my future in the hopes that adding these three players can push me into the playoffs. The Chicago / Toronto deal is very one sided imo. I'm not exactly sure what would prompt such a dramatic swap. I feel like Chicago gave up a TON to get Flipper, which doesnt even make sense considering all the players he traded were relatively young and cheap.
For the Toronto and Chicago trade, I think Toronto won this one easily. However, I know sng has had a crush on Cartajena ever since he was first in the draft so it was only a matter of time for him to get him somehow. So he's probably fine with all he gave up for him. In the 3 team trade, my initial reaction was that San Diego was the winner. Getting 2 very good young players and a top player is great for them. Huck will have some good value and looking at the average ballpark factors, he could actually do better in San Diego than he did in Los Angeles. But then I looked at it some more. He gave up 8-10 players to receive 3 players. 2 of those players are 2B(though he's probably planning to move Huck to 1B) and the third is a catcher and he already had a good young catcher. For as much as they gave up, I don't think this trade really helps them improve much. Soooo, it's hard to pick the Angels because we don't know who the PTBNLs are and they did give up 2 very good players so I think the Red Sox are the winners here. They basically got the Padres whole minor league system and a 4.5 star 1B from the Angels. Hard to complain about that.
I Peench is the clear winner for me. He only gave up Huck, who's best years are behind him and Moreno, who's a platoon bat at best. Murdock is still very young and may have been rushed for that cup of coffee but he should atleast be an everyday OF vs RHP. Costa should hit 35+ HR's and could possibly have the same value moving forward as Huck for the next 5 years. PTBNL - I imagine these are some kind of top picks from last years draft. Recap: Murdock(20) for Moreno(28), Murdock is an improvement at that age. Costa(23) +(2) PTBNL for Huck (31 and declining), Advantage Angels Didn't like anything Boston got back but they got quanity for MacKeachen. Huck could help SD win for the next 2 years but I think they gave up alot of youth for a small run.
I actually kinda like a few of the pieces that Boston got (most notably Diego Martinez), but I'm not at all sure why they wanted Noble or Moreno. I don't like the deal for SD that much... they gave up everything that wasn't tied down for what? Let's say Hull is a 1 win upgrade over Noble (which is fairly aggressive and I'm not sure its even that much), Huck is a 4 win upgrade over Costa, and MacKeachen is a 2 win upgrade over Park. All of those numbers are fairly to extremely aggressive, and that gets SD maybe 70 runs? Its certainly not nothing, and you'd hope that a healthy Iampos and maybe some other improvement occurs, but I don't see how thats worth it for a 68 win SD team. There are still a lot of other holes and there isn't much left to plug them. But yeah, I know LAA gave up Huck, but I think they got themselves a haul and they should be pretty happy with how they did in this trade.
Just a FYI I am in get raped mode so go to my block I have a 26 year old 5 war corner outfielder who plays defense and rakes and makes 480k and a 30 million dollar ace who has the same war 7.5 as teheran 7.5 and kershaw 7.4 both cy young winners. He is 36 so I wont cost you a huge spec just a mid tier 4 star range 2nd round guy.
And yes I do think I was raped and yes Hal is spot on. I had a crush on him from day 1 and I have prospects coming out my ears so I did it (time to take advantage). And if the padres win 2 of the next 3 years and gain 15 mill in budget space then they win. But for today the Angles are the clear winner for me.
Totally agree with this analysis. I honestly wouldn't have traded Huck, but since they did, they get back excellent value. I still have no clue what San Diego is doing. They aren't going to get a wildcard and both Arizona and San Francisco are better than them. Like you said, still too many holes to fill.
Despite what kdpnutter thinks, I really thought Huck was too valuable for any deal really. If I knew anything about this game I'd have probably spent money and tried to compete now. It was hard for me (and I'm sure kdp as well) to gauge how much these guys would go for and just how good of a FA class this was. Because of that, I was terrified I'd botch FA. In any case, I'm aiming to be the '96 Yankees as opposed to the '07s.
I get why each team made the deal they did. I get the retrench by Boston, the go for it mentality of the Pads but I like what the Angels did the best. Nothing to add on WAR and all that. it was well said above. I appreciate the Pads thinking they have what it takes to make a move and are willing to put the cards on the table and go all in. Right decision? don't know.. Ballsy - Yep... Misguided - Possibly but that is why we play the game.
I felt the Angels were in a unique place. They could keep Huck and throw cash at this pretty impressive FA class or trade him and develop a great young core. He chose the latter and i personally love the deal for them. It also doesn't hurt that he traded him to someone he may only have to see in one or two series per year. Boston definitely comes in second in the deal with SD unfortunately coming in last. I like NT's aggressiveness, but i think he has again tried too hard and will have buyer's remorse as soon as the all star break
The trade definitely was aggressive and I probably did give up too much for someone thats so far away from winning, I'm well aware of that. I no way do I have some blinders on that I think I'm automatically a WS contender after that one trade. Thats why I went out and traded Park to free up money and then traded Torres for players that will solidify my outfield and my lineup.
http://forums.traditionsportsonline...kansas-city-royals-trade.106442/#post-1477791 Discuss How is it that NeuroticTruth was able to fleece Bondzai so badly in this deal? Did Bondzai ask anyone for advice? What was he thinking. Essentially the Padres aquired a top of the line starter and a top 5 3B for a bag of poo... How is this even possible? This cripples the KC organization and helps one of our commissioners to one of the most lop-sided trades in history.
Don't worry Bond, No matter who you trade to NT he will still suck. You win as long as one guy actually does something in the future.
