For the 4th time in 5 years, the Steelers have lost in the first round of the playoffs at home.

The mood was silent and stunned after place kicker Shaun Suisham missed a field goal that would have tied the game as time expired on the woe-begotten Pittsburgh squad. The hard fought game was a defensive battle to the end, with San Diego Chargers counter punching everything the Steelers threw at them. "I really thought this year would be different" said star wide out Antonio Brown.

The game saw a change in QBs as Chargers QB Jimmy Garoppolo gave way to Keifer McGrath after going 7 for 14 and 48 yards. McGrath was not much better at 13 for 20, but had 148 yards. It was enough to win.

Jeremy Hill, Steelers starting half back cited the bitter cold as a contributer to the 3 fumbles, extremely uncharacteristic of the 5 year veteran. Freshman kick return specialist Yomi Azur added two more fumbles on kick and punt returns. Although the Steelers only lost one of these fumbles (and had one interception), they cost a few yards where field position was critical.

Jason Worilds, the 9 year veteran was quoted "I am not as young as I used to be. I left everything out there, and when you end up sitting around the locker room with your team mates after a loss like that, you wonder if its time to hang up the cleats. Worilds had a stellar day, with 4 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and a forced fumble. Upon exiting the facility, the oldest member of the Steelers, superb veteran line-backer Lawrence Timmons was quoted as saying "get the @#$% out of my way."

When reporters asked Coach Max Kane about snubbing the traditional post game handshake with Charger coach Blank, he said "My kicker needed reassurance more than Coach Blank needed a handshake. It had nothing to do with the controversial end to our last meeting." Coach Kane was referring to the Monday night match-up in week nine, where the Chargers, up 33-13, ran a fake field goal at the end of the drubbing, instead of letting time run out. "there is no animosity, they played and coached a great game. I hadn't even thought about it since week nine" said Coach Kane.

"I couldn't be happier with the composition of this team. As a coach, I have everything the way I want it. Two world class WRs, a Strong-arm QB, a bruiser for a HB and the fastest HB backing him up. The defense is great, in my opinion, with a surprising defensive secondary, and a superstar MLB in Shazier. I really could not ask for more, the personnel managers have used free agency well and drafted even better." Said Coach Kane, in a rare public appearance. "But we have 25 players 30 or older, and 14 of them are starters. the window is quickly closing on this opportunity."

Secondary stand-out and "face" of the defense, CB Steele Bishop went down early in the game with a terrible broken collarbone, in what had to be the most significant event in the game. "Kendal (freshman CB Kendal Mincy) did an amazing job at replacing me, especially when you consider he is only 22, and this is his first year starting. But, I would be lying if I didn't tell you that I was not frustrated not being able to help my teamates." Said Bishop. Mincy ended up with 4 passes defensed, but no interceptions.

"I'm proud of this team. We have a division full of talent, and have won that division this year. Its an accomplishment we can focus on. We play hard, block and tackle and sweat and claw for everything, with no room for error. Cincinnati, Baltimore, and Cleveland aren't giving up. We can go hide our head in the sandy shores of the Monongahela at Point State Park, or we can get off our dupa's and start working harder." Coach Kane ended the interview by buying Primanti's sandwiches and cases of Iron City Lite for the entire media assembly, saying "See you next year."

No word if we will see kicker Suisham next year, after reports of entering the Mount Holy Oak Mental and Behavioral Heath facility.
