    2011 Dodgers Players to Watch

    Clayton Kershaw - SP
Last season Kershaw had his coming out party. Being touted as one of the most exciting young lefties since Fernando Valenzuela, and even drawing comparisons to the great Sandy Koufax over in Tinseltown, expectations are certainly high for the 22 year old. Already being named the Opening Day starter by new manager Don Mattingly, Kershaw seems primed to have his biggest season yet. They key for him will be to go deep into ballgames. Last season Kershaw could be a bit erratic which caused his pitch count to get up early and forced the bullpen to get involved earlier than Joe Torre would have liked. Kershaw's numbers, despite his W-L record looked good last season. 13-10 204.1 IP 212Ks 81BB and a 2.91 ERA.
If Kershaw can get his control down, and get deeper into ballgames, he should be primed for a big season.

    Dodgers vs Mets

The Dodgers went on the road to NY to take on the Mets today. In a pitching dual that only allowed 1 run between the two teams James Loney was finally able to drive in a run in the 9th inning off a Manny Acosta pitch that put the Dodgers ahead 1-0. Billingsley looked sharp going 8 innings and giving up 4 hits. Broxton came into the game for the save after Billingsley allowed a hit in the 9th to open up the inning.

Dodgers get another during spring training by beating the Cubs 2-0. I will put up the score pictures later this evening. Kuroda was very sharp tossing a complete game 2 hit shutout. James Loney went yard as well during the game. Furcal has been struggling all spring and looks to turn it around when the season starts.

    Game 1

    Dodgers 2
    Giants 0

The Dodgers won the first meeting against the rival Giants for the 2011 season. Clayton Kershaw was in mid-season form fanning 13 batters in route to a 1 hit complete game shutout. Casey Blake in the top of the fifth inning was able to drive home a run on a triple when the Giants outfielder misjudged a ball off the wall. Tony Gwinn Jr was able to get Blake home on a ground ball to the second basemen to make the score 2-0 which is how it held the rest of the game.

Dodgers get a big win beating the Rockies at home 2-0 on their first home game of the season. The Dodgers continued their excellent pitching trend with Chad Billingsly going 8 innings giving up only four hits, 0 runs, and striking out 15 batters. James Loney went yard early in the game and drove in another run later in the game. Jonathan Broxton came on in the 9th to record his first save of the season.

Dodgers Continue to Roll, Down Marlins

The Dodgers certainly have started the season on the right foot. The biggest contributor up till this point? The pitching. However, it appears the bats might have come alive against the Marlins. The Dodgers were able to rack up 19 hits against the Fish. Matt Kemp was the player of the game going 3-5 and was a double away from hitting for the cycle.

    Lilly Almost Perfect

Ted Lilly was three batters away from pitching his first ever perfect game when Rickie Weeks was able to shoot a drive down the third base line and draw a double despite a fired up crowd at Dodger Stadium this evening. Lilly was relentless throughout the game pounding the strike zone and mixing up hit pitches. By the time he was pulled in the ninth for closer Jonathan Broxton he had fanned 14 Brewers.

Matt Kemp was able to extend his hitting streak going 1-3 with an intentional walk and a run. Eithier was able to drive in Kemp with a single of his own to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead which they held onto to go 5-0 on the season.
