    Houston @ UCLA

Pasadena, CA - After a bye in week 2, UCLA plays host to the Houston Cougars. After allowing Houston to march down the field for an opening touchdown and UCLA's first deficit of the season, how would they respond? The response was a quick drive to tie the game up. The next two UCLA possessions include a 59 yard FG and a 25 yard FG. Houston comes back in the second quarter with a go-ahead TD, but that would be their last touchdown. UCLA scores on a 1 yard run by QB Kevin Prince and on the next Houston play from scrimmage, they return a fumble 32 yards for 6. With 23 seconds left in the half, Houston manages a 44 yard FG. A couple of quick plays and key timeouts allow UCLA to put up a 42 yard FG at the break.

The second half sees UCLA play ball control and tight defense, scoring 10 points while allowing none. Final score is UCLA 40, Houston 17.

Players of the game for UCLA are HB Derrick Coleman (22 carries for 109 yards), L. White (11 tackes, 1 tfl, 1 int), and kicker Locke (4-4 FG, long of 59, 4-4 XP)

Play of the game (and why a QB shouldn't try to run on this defense!):

Pasadena, CA - Who would expect a shootout in the pouring rain? Before half the crowd was in their seats, the Huskies were up 14-0 thanks to a fumble return for 6 and an INT for 6. UCLA settled down and answered to pull to 14-7. Washington answers right back to go up 21-7. The very first play from scrimmage for UCLA on the ensuing possession is a 72 yard strike to TE Presley. At the end of the first quarter, the score was Washington 21, UCLA 14. The last 90 seconds of the half saw 28 points put on the board. UCLA scored on a 2 yard run by Fletcher. With that much time on the clock, Washington quickly drove down the field and punched it in from 4 yards outto go up 35-28. Presley again found man coverage in the form of a very slow LB on him, and took it the distance for a 70 yard TD. The Huskies decided to see if they couldn't pull off a hail mary to end the half. Here's the play:

Pasadena, CA - The Bruins picked up where they left off against Washington, scoring 45 in the first half while pitching a shutout during the same timeframe. The backups come in to play most of the second half (although my "backup" QB and HB actually are my current starters thanks to injuries). That crew gives up some points to Oregon. Final score is UCLA 54, Oregon 21.

I would have thought that Oregon would adjust their playcalling. They were DYING to run the freaking option all game long, even when they were down after the half. Here's the result of some of their option plays:

Here's a thought, Oregon. STOP RUNNING THE OPTION!

Players of the game for UCLA are HB Sidney Fletcher (32 carries for 126 yards and 4 TDs) and SS Lester White (7 tackles, 1 tfl, 1 INT). Honorable mention to kicker/punter Jeff Locke who hits his only punt for 53 yards, makes all 6 extra points, and goes 4 for 5 on FG (made 48, 58, 48, and 32). His only miss:

lol at how the video is extra long at the end and is filming the Oregon dude.

That's a legit kick too! My kicker's distance is 38. That's as far as I'm willing to go with him after he barely squeaked one over from that distance.

Haha. Yeah, I guess they needed something to cheer about at that point. That was near the end of the 3rd quarter. I figured I was at the cusp of my dude's kicking power (I believe he's in the mid-90's) if I nailed it, and I got it all. I guess I was right, since it hit right smack on the crossbar. Now only if the wind was 1 mph different...
