Got home from work at 8pm and been hiding from this thread until I watched the completed match. Congrats to the Arsenal supporters, amazing match. I've seen a lot of Barca matches this season and they just seemed unstoppable. They get a goal up and just pass you to death with their amazing possession game, which is how this one looked to be playing out up to the 70th minute. The angle on RVPs goal was crazy, I figured this one was surely ending in a tie. But man, the touch from Arshavin on the goal for the lead, such precision. Great win, I definitely have a new level of respect for this club. Excellent futbol today!
MSG+ Not sure if anyone else gets this channel, but I recently learned that MSG+ is carrying a good bulk of the UEFA Champions League matches in HD. I just checked my Comcast guide and 3 of the matches next week are on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Still no update on either FSC or GOL in HD, locally. Nonetheless, this news is fantastic.
MSG also plays two half-hour shows called Arsenal World and Arsenal 360 that give updates/interviews/etc. on the club. Pretty interesting to watch even for neutrals.
Blaza...I know long time no see...just thought I'd wish you congrats. When Arsenal pulled it off I knew you would be geeked lol
What game are you guys watching today? I'll probably watch the Real Madrid v Lyon game since I've never heard of Copenhagen. The game I really want to see is the Munich v Inter game tomorrow, to see if either club can pick up their form and make a run at it.
Lyon vs. Madrid should be an incredible match. Real has been knocked out in this round 6 straight times and Lyon took them out at this stage last year. Tomorrow, both games should be outstanding.
@Blaza What do you think about the return leg? I know its a long way out, but its never to early for footie.
Yeah, seems as though the Barca Boys are pretty confident even though they took the "L"...it'll be interesting to see if RVP can continue his run of form and if Messi can finish an opporturnity this time around. So far, other than Man U the British teams have done well. Italian squads, horrendous, and the Spaniards...meh.
Did that really just happen? That 2nd yellow on RVP was hilarious. My condolences to Blaza who I'm sure will be drinking himself to sleep tonight.
The decision to dismiss RVP was literally top 3 worst calls I've ever seen in sports. A complete JOKE.
It was a horrible call. You don't send someone off in a Champions League match for being a half second late in hearing the whistle. And that's coming from a Spurs fan. That said, I thought RVP got lucky to only get a yellow for that push/punch in the first half.
I have a soccer pub right across from my office so I've been having to run back and forth for most of the match. I missed his first yellow. I did however spit my RedBull all over the floor when seeing the 2nd yellow. An absolute shocker of a call.
Arsenal just shut theirselves in the foot really. They got involved when they shouldn't have, which led to lack of focus at the end of first half, and resulted in a costly goal. RVP was asking for it. As terrible of a call it is, it was more than half a second. The sound was delayed compared to the picture, so it's not as close as it sounded. But still, that's a BS call. You can't just stop there, someone in the crowd even might blow the whistle.
Yeah man that was wild. Bayern was kicking ass in the first half and Inter looked miserable. I couldn't believe they came back. Awesome game.
I've got the DVR queued up for this weeks matches as the quarter finals kicks off this week. Is there a better matchup this week than the obvious with Chelsea v Manchester United?
