    "Upset City"

    Week 11, 2010

This week we are putting TULANE on the upset block.

    #25 Tulane Green Wave 8-1 (4-1)
    vs
    Rice Owls 2-6 (1-3)

    Rice Offense vs Tulane Defense

A good QB with players at the skill positions that can outrun a suspect secondary and an over aggressive defense.
    Advantage Rice.

    Tulane Offense vs Rice Defense
Tulane's QB has been making poor decisions with the football. Starting RB Anderson returns for Tulane, that will be a shot in the arm. It will boil down to a power rushing attack vs a shaky but opportunistic defense.
    Advantage: Tie.

    Special teams
Kicking: Highly innacurate kicker at Rice. Advantage Tulane.
Punting: Better coverage team for Tulane. Advantage Tulane.
Return: Tulane has only had one big kick return and has been stifled in the punt return area. Rice has shown more big play ability. Advantage Rice

    Why Tulane will lose this game;
    • Turnovers.
Rice will win the turnover game. They excel at forcing turnovers (12 INTs, 10FF, 9FRecoveries) and taking care of the football. Tulane is also good at forcing turnovers but can be careless in taking care of it.
    • Nick Fanuzzi.
The Rice starting QB is only a sophmore, but he is putting up impressive numbers. He averages 286 yds passing per game and has a 3:1 TD:Int ratio.
Oh, and by the way, Tulane has the nations #112 ranked pass defense.
    • Rice team speed.
Skill position speed that Tulane can simply not match.

Final prediction: Owls in a shootout.
    #25 Tulane Green Wave 38
    vs
    Rice Owls 41

Damn, just got back from vacation and see my boys are the upset special. I heard the coach put a copy in all the players' lockers. Hopefully, the Green Wave can come out and take care of business.

Not so fast my friend! Upset prediction sabotaged by horrific CPU QB play. Read my summary for the details.

    Big time showdown!

    #1Tulane (10-0, onaradio34)
    vs
    Tulsa (7-2, bkhogfan51)

Tulane football under coach is known for dominating the trenches, they currently rank #3 in rush offense and #1 in rush defense. They score points and in bunches, averaging 44.7ppg (#2 in nation).

Tulane has a reliable back, and a QB that takes care of the football.

On defense Tulane has a spectacular playmaker: FS Lauricella. He has racked up 81 tackles! (2nd on team has 47!), 26TFL, 12Sacks. Expect Lauricella to be blitzing most every play.

Tulsa is a pound it offensive team, which is extremely puzzling because they have the personnel to go to the air (3 WR rated 87 and above, 2 QBs rated 86 and above). Despite this, coach bkhogfan has decided to give the keys to the offense to his up and coming freshman QB Beaver (rated 75 OVR) and FB Clay has taken over as the lead running back.

Beaver is a kid that is still learning, his offensive awareness is poor, his throwing accuracy is bad, but he can make plays with his legs.

Beaver has basically split snaps with veteran QB Kinne. The statline points to Kinne being the hands down most efficient player:
    Kinne 75/142 for 1187yds, 9TD and 5Int
    Beaver 67/143 for 1064yds, 8TD and 19Int.
    Yes, 19. Not a misprint.

One has to question the decision to give the start to Beaver.

    The experts break it down:
QB : Tulane. Tulsa has talent edge, but Tulane QBs outperform.
RB : Even. Tulsa has talent edge, but Tulane RBs perform well.
WR : Tulane. Tulsa has talent edge, but they are limited by poor QB play.
OL: Tulsa. Bigger, badder, more depth.
DL: Tulane. This is where they are stout.
LB: Tulane. Tulsa has a very weak LB group and no depth.
DBs: Tulane. Lauricella is a difference maker. Watch him to be in the box all day playing the run.
Coaching: Tulane. Questionable PT decisions on the Tulsa sideline.

    Picks:
The computer algorithm says: This game is won easily by Tulane 42-10... propelled by numerous turnovers by the inexperienced Tulsa QB.
    Herbstreit: Tulane, in a laugher.
Corso: Not so fast my friends! Tulsa is at home, playing the nations #1 team... they have the talent and team speed to overmatch Tulane at the skill positions... If coach can put these kids in a position to succeed, I see Tulsa winning in a shootout 42-38!

    Thanks guys!

Tulsa HC bkhogfan will have some explaining to do if he decides to go with Beaver and it backfires on him :D

Me to. After this season, Im getting in a conference that houses another user (WAC?). These games are exciting... and just to think.... we still have the winner getting a spot in the conference championship game against another User from C-USA East.
