Brief look into the status of the PAC 10 for 2024.

USC is coming off it’s worse season to date during Coach Payton’s tenure with the Trojans. Usually bad seasons equate to changes in the program. 1st major change for the Trojans will be playbook. The Trojans will be using a “Multiple” style offense. Part of the reasoning is the over abundance of scrambling type quarterbacks combined with a stable stocked full of young RBs. Look for George Baker to have a break-out year with all of the new running plays at his disposal.
Defense will need to be the backbone of this team. Names to watch, Williams and Doucette at LB, Nunez and Overstreet at FS. All are seniors, looking to make an impact. They will be tested early against powerhouse Mizzou and Big Ten elite Iowa.
-PLAYERS TO WATCH-
O – SR RB George Baker
D – SR OLB Michael Williams
Freshman watch – WR/KR Jordan Richardson
-SEASON PREDICTION-
9-3 (8-0)

UPDATE - Week 8
USC is right about where they wanted to be. 4-1(3-0) heading into their match-up with Oregon. USC's elite defense will need to contain Rocky Manning if they want to regain control of the division. USC will have to do so in the rowdy confines of Autzen Stadium.

OrST ran the table last season and cleaned up in the PAC 10. The reward was a chance to play for a National Championship, where they came up short against UGA. Was last season a fluke or have the Beavers established themselves as a National Powerhouse? We will have that answer after their top 10 match-up with Alabama in week 2.

Like USC, State has had 1 hiccup this season and that was a loss to Alabama. Since then they have recovered and sit at 3-1(2-0). They still have very big games at undefeated Oregon and USC.

The Bruins crept into the Top 25 last season only to be knocked out by USC in the Battle for the Victory Bell. UCLA is looking to break-free of the “Red-headed step child” role of the past and challenge for a PAC 10 title. They start off the season ranked 23rd but will need to have big games against Auburn and Alabama to remain relevant.

This is why I don't have a job in Vegas. The Bruins are struggling this season and things don't look to be getting better. They currently sit at 2-4(0-3). Not sure if they can right the ship but if USC can do it, so can they.

The future of Cal is uncertain at this point. The end of the “Mike Sharp” era is over. In the past, Cal could light up anybody’s secondary. This will be very difficult this season as the skill level at QB is considerably lower than years past. They will need to play great D to remain in games and hopefully score enough to overcome.
-PLAYERS TO WATCH-
O – JR WR Josh Moses
D – SR DT Carl Howard
-SEASON PREDICTION-
8-4 (5-3)

UPDATE - Week 8
Cal is playing too vanilla at the moment. Losing Mike Sharp at QB has really spelled the demise of this team so far. 2-2(1-1) so far this season and it could get worse as they face the conference leading Ducks.

You can change uniforms all you want but can the Ducks change their losing ways? The offense is stacked and lead by QB Rocky Manning. Their Spread option attack should be devastating this season. The question is, how will the defense fare? Only time will tell.
-PLAYERS TO WATCH-
O – SR QB Rocky Manning
D – JR OLB Ryan Williams

-SEASON PREDICTION-

8-4 (5-3)

UPDATE - Week 8
Who saw this coming?! Better than I predicted, as Rocky Manning is leading the Heisman charge with this team on his back. They are currently at 5-0(3-0) and can remain undefeated as long as they can hold the Trojans and Beavers at bay.

Stanford had some bright spots last season. Biggest was a win against a more talented USC team. The Cardinal have really stretched their wins and have been soaring now that Coach Jam is out of the picture. Question this season will be can they continue to grow the success they’ve had so far.
-PLAYERS TO WATCH-
O – SR HB Brandon Rogers
D – JR SS Kenny Cruz
-SEASON PREDICTION-
8-4 (5-3)

UPDATE - Week 8
Someone had to be in the basement but Stanford is moving in furniture for a long stay. I honestly didn't see this coming but its here. 0-5(0-3) now, probably a good time to get some of the freshman in there.

This was a good read, Payton. Like I said in my blog, I think the Trojans make it back to the Rose Bowl this season.
