Utes Slip Past Beavers With Last Second FG: Win Pac-12

The Utah Utes won the inaugural Pac-12 Championship game, played at Oregon State's Reser
    Stadium

The stage was set for this rematch. Oregon State made it through the regular season undefeated, and was sporting a #2 rank heading into the Conference Championship. The only thing standing between the Beavers and a shot at the National Championship was a rematch with Utah. The Utes had suffered their only loss on the year at home to Oregon State, and had revenge on their mind.

The game started off with Oregon State taking the kickoff. McCants and co. drove down the field, but their first drive ended with an interception. That play would stall the Beavers enough to keep the first quarter scoreless.

Utah would draw first blood in the 2nd quarter on a PA pass to TE Kendrick Moeai. The divisional champs would then trade field goals and Utah would take a 10-7 lead into half time.

The game would go back and forth, with Utah having the slight edge and Oregon St trailing until the sequence of plays that defined the game and the seasons or both teams occurred.

James Rodgers would return a kickoff 103 yards for a TD that sent the Beaver Faithful into a frenzy and tied the game. Utah needed an answer. On the next play from scrimmage, the steely-eyed Sophomore RB Thretton Palamo knew exactly how to turn that momentum swing in the Utes favor. Palamo took the ball on a blast, cutting up the middle, and made one move that sent him on a streak down the sideline. He would take it 77 yards for a TD right after.

That TD run sucked the life out of the stadium, but Oregon State wasnt finished. They would claw their way back, and actually tie the game up again with 0:37 left. Utah had less than a minute, and only 1 timeout to get themselves into FG position.

Coach Max had to calmed by an assistant and reminded that they only needed to get into FG position. After a few deep breaths he called on his impact players once more, and the Junior connection of Jordan Wynn to Devonte Christopher produced an enormous gain off a quick hit. Christopher would YAC his way inside Beaver territory. A few short runs and a timeout later would setup a dead-center 44yd FG for the win. OSU would try to ice the kicker, but it was of no use. Sean Sellwood nailed the game-winner with zeroes on the clock, ending the first-ever Pac-12 Championship game.

Utah, who was #8 in the country, finishes the season 12-1 and has an outside chance at making the National Championship. Either that, or they will have to "settle" for a Rose Bowl appearance.
