    UTEP (2-3) vs Memphis (4-1)

    Close But No Cigar

The game started out promising with UTEP forcing Memphis to go 3 and out on their opening drive. But unfortunately QB Trevor Vittatoe just could not get into any sort of rythm, falling to the pass rush twice in their opening drive, UTEP was also forced to punt.

Blood was first drawn when Memphis conducts an unstoppable drive resulting in an embarassing option pass with literally no defense around. Shortly after UTEP answers with a great kick return, giving them good field position at Memphis' 20 yard line. Moments later HB Daniel Palmer rushes into the endzone to tie the ballgame.

Late in the second quarter Memphis once again gains the lead as UTEP's secondary is non existant as they allow the receiver to practically walk into the endzone. UTEP answers this with a great drive resulting in 3 points. Score is now 10-14.

The 3rd quarter starts off with nothing but a defensive stuggle. Fortunately UTEP comes out on top, scoring 10 points total for the quarter giving them their first lead of the game at 20-14

Everything falls apart in the 4th for UTEP as they allow 21 points while only scoring 6. Two fumbles (one on a kick return) and a missed two point conversion that would have tied the game late in the 4th are two blunders this team probably wishes didn't happen. Not to mention QB T. Vittatoe succumbed to the pass rush nearly everytime he attempted resulting in a total of 8 sacks for the day, bad luck there.

The Miners go home with a 26-35 loss. Better luck next week guys.

Nice hole created by the offensive line. HB Daniel Palmer had little defense in his way this game.

    Where is the D?!

There it is! Finally comin around in the 3rd. Nice hit!!

The D is just overwhelming in the 3rd, Memphis' QB getting sacked for the second time in a row.

UTEP gets a break from the action with a BYE on Week 7

For tables, separate colums with a "|" character. So I can take one of your tables:

Receiving Rec Yards TD Long Drop
    C. Baker 6 55 0 15 3
    D. Johnson 6 53 1 29 0
    B. Hall 5 42 0 14 0

and put "|" between the columns like so:

    Receiving| Rec| Yards| TD| Long| Drop
    C. Baker |6 |55| 0| 15| 3
    D. Johnson| 6| 53 |1 |29| 0
    B. Hall |5| 42| 0 |14| 0

and then you wrap the whole thing with a table commands, which you can do by clicking the table icon up above next to the youtube icon and it looks like this:

    Column 1 Column 2 Column 3 Column 4 Column 5 Column 6
Receiving Rec Yards TD Long Drop
    C. Baker 6 55 0 15 3
    D. Johnson 6 53 1 29 0
    B. Hall 5 42 0 14 0

For videos, save the .flv file from easportsworld, then upload the .flv file to youtube. From youtube copy the embedded html and wrap it with youtube commands from the youtube icon above.

    Hurricane Tulsa slams thru UTEP

This game was nothing but an all out annihilation as Tulsa went up against hated rival UTEP. They had everything covered as they passed and ran all over UTEPs defense all game. Some wondered if UTEPs defense was left in Memphis last game. Not to mention the Offense was out of sync. By half time the score was 31-0. The famous Sun Bowl was nearly empty by the end, some fans looked as though they were holding back tears. UTEP managed to get on the board late in the 3rd with a passing TD.

"Guess I'll have to really start going after those defensive recruits," says a solemn coach MaslerBoros. "I congratulate Coach Wildcatter on his teams performance, he has put together a fine team."

Let's hope to see a better performance next week at UTEP squares off against UAB. Another home game we all know the fans and the Miners themselves would like to see victorious.

The Miners slip to 2-5(0-3) while Tulsa improves to 5-2(3-0)

    More Misfortune for the Miners

Missed tackles, lack of speed, and injury plagued this misfortunate team. The Blazers were able to easily get the ball in the endzone on nearly every possession as the defense once again failed to protect the home turf. On numerous occasions a missed tackle was the reason for several of UABs scores. The defense was at another disadvantage as the ball carrier flew by them everytime, making the defenders do double takes.

The offense took a mighty toll in the first half of play, losing both starting HB Daniel Palmer for 10 weeks due to torn shoulder and starting QB Trevor Vittatoe for 3 weeks due to torn pectoral. With two of the most major factors out of the game, the backups had a hard time filling their shoes. They managed to keep the game close until the back up QB threw two consecutive picks, one resulting in a TD, pushing the score out of reach. UTEP turned to the air in the 4th quarter for a possible comeback but came up short.

"I still have hope for my team, we can easily still make a bowl if we just clear our heads and calm down a little," comments Coach MaslerBoros. Still, a heavy silence occupied the Miners locker room postgame. Yes, it's still possible for UTEP to still make and finish off the season with a positive atmosphere. Such a goal will surely pose a challenge.

UTEP slips to 2-4(0-4).They travel on the road to Tulane Week 10. Good luck guys.

UAB's running back, Brooks, is a beast...I posted a vid from my game with UAB where he scored a 50 or 60 yard TD...Totally bowled one defender over to break free then once he got to the 10 he had one of my guys on his back then another and dragged both of them into the endzone. It was awesome...Go check it out.

    Miners End the Losing Drought

The UTEP Miners had a great game against rival Tulane. Backup QB Jamie Thomas II had a spectacular day, attacking the air with more than 300 yards passing, while backup HB Jason Williams had nearly 200 yards rushing. Both proved they are good for more then just warming the bench.

The first quarter was pretty uneventful, filled with 3 and outs and one short TD pass by UTEP. The second brought more excitement as Tulane tied up the score right before the half with a pick 6.

The momentum Tulane built up was quickly stuffed as UTEP went on the attack. Dominating in all aspects of the game, only allowing Tulane to see the endzone once in the second half.

The Miners are pumped as they visit SMU looking for another win on the road. They improve to 3-6(1-4).

    Bad Luck for Miners

All was going well in an exciting game on the road against SMU. Back to back touchdown showed that each team was dominant over the others defense. B But in the end SMU prevailed.

Late in the 4th UTEP down by 3 attempts a pass to WR K. Adams. Adams is wide open and it looks like it could be a game winning touchdown. Yes! He caught it...hold on, no he tipped it! SMU intercepts the ball..all hope is lost as they drive down the field to score...ending the game in a horrible 42-52 loss. Bowl eligibility has now been lost. Coach MaslerBoros had no comment after the game.

    Miners Buried

The UTEP Miners traveled to battle the Rice Owls this weekend and came away with yet another loss. Even with starting QB Trevor Vittatoe back on the field, Rice's defense swamped nearly every play UTEP attempted and completeley tore apart the defense. UTEPs starting kicker missed nearly every kick he attempted under only 4 MPH winds and some moderate rain. "I can forgive a missed Fieldgoal, but when he missed that PAT...that was game right there," said Coach MaslerBoros. We can only assume what kind of practice he has planned for this young kicker or maybe he will merely bench him.

UTEP slips even lower to 3-8 while rice moves up to 5-6.

UTEP hosts Marshall next week. They hope to finish the season with a home victory, which many deem impossible at this point.

    Herd Thunders over UTEP

Another sad week for the Miners, this time falling prey to Marshall. A horrible defensive show by UTEP gave Marshall an easy win. UTEP managed to score a good handful of points thanks to HB J. Williams but could not close the gap. QB T. Vittatoe was among those with a mediocre day, having a rating of 91.3

The UTEP Miners finish off the season at 3-9, better luck next year guys.

    Notable Players:

HB J. Williams (UTEP): 25 Car, 134 yds, 2 TD

    QB B. Anderson (MARSH): 14/23, 329 yds, 3 TD

The Miners finish season with 8 new recruits, well under the 18 person recruiting cap, using 8 scholarships along the way.

New Recruiting SS Ali Castillo was moved to the CB position as he gained a better rating and the CB position desperately needed someone in that area of the field.
