The Minnesota Vikings finally put together a complete game to win 35-31 over a divisional trivial Lions. Coming off a three game losing streak, the Vikes knew if they had any chances making it to the playoff, it starts with winning the divisional games. For weeks, Christian Ponder stats has not been up to standards. He was averaging over 2 INT's a game and was trying to do too much. But with this game, he actually didnt force anything and just went out and played football. He didn't flinch against that feisty, swarming Lions defense. He threw for 3 TD's all to his Wide outs and had a passing rating of 74.8. The highest he has had all year. Peterson did what he has been doing all year, and thats run through any defense of player. He had a pretty solid game with 201 yards of rushing and 2 TD's to go along with it. He average about 7.7 yards per carry and seemed like he was a man on a mission. He fumbled once at a crucial time when the Lions were up by 3 in the second quarter, but he didn't get discourage and came out the second half to dominate...But the real stars of the game were the Vikes D. Captain Jared Allen has been saying all week that he needs to step up and be an example for his teammates on defense in order for them to get better. With a showing of 7 solo tackles with 5 sacks all team highs, he definitely proved to his team why he has been a pro bowler for many years. Others followed and all together they had 8 sack. Even though the defense gave up over 400 yards, they made sure they made big plays when it counted the most. Chad Greenway said"We knew we had a big task on our hands with the likes of Stafford and Calvin Johnson on the bill. So our game plan was to try and contain the duo because it would have been impossible of stopping them". They did just that by limiting Johnson to only 1 touchdown and 91 yards receiving. Even though Stafford had 311 passing yards, he was picked off 5 times and was getting knocked around all game....With Minnesota finally on a win streak, lets see if this carries over to their next opponent which will be another divisional match up against the Bears.
