There was not a jeopardizing moment in Saturdays game in Knoxville as the University of Tennessee forced their style of play on the Bears of Cal. The speed on defense was too much for Cal QB Zach Maynard to deal with. "Everywhere we wanted to be, they would beat us to that spot", said the senior. Maynard would throw 2 interceptions on the night and the Bears offense alone only tallied 211 yards.

On the flip side, the Volunteer offense was a smooth oiled machine on opening week. Junior Quarterback Tyler Bray only had 5 incompletions on 21 attempts and threw for 3 TD's to his Junior receiving tandem Justin Hunter and Da'Rick Rogers. The surprise of the game was the emergence of a premier back as Sophomore Marlin Lane
controlled the clock amassing 178 yards on 30 carries and adding a touchdown of his own to lead the way to a 31-14 victory.

"This could be the start of something great", spoke Coach Dooley after the victory, "we have a few things to address but this was a very promising sign for us."

haha, well thanks- it really was strange though. Their QB constantly was looking to take off and run, usually a pain but my team defense is quick enough to contain it.
