Huskies Beat the Ducks to Run Streak to 3

Washington hosted hated rival Oregon and won a game that was tight down to the wire 27-24. Washington used the legs of Chris Polk and the arm of Jake Locker to fend off a tough Oregon team. Locker threw for 269 yards, only throwing 1 incompletion and 3 touchdowns. Polk carried the ball 30 times for 138 yards. DeAndre Goodwin opened the scoring on a 63-yard strike down the seam when Locker hit him in stride beating a safety blitz by the Ducks. Goodwin caught 2 other passes leading all receivers with 115 yards on the day. Jermaine Kearse caught 5 passes for 78 yards and a touchdown. Kevarrio Middleton caught 6 passes for 47 yards and a touchdown. In a well played game that saw no turnovers, no one player stood out on defense. The Huskies improved to 8-3 on the year 6-2 in Pac-10 play with only the Apple Cup remaining after a bye next week. With a win in the Apple Cup, the Huskies will finish 2nd in the Pac-10 and face a tough Big XII opponent in San Diego in the Holiday Bowl. Stay tuned...

Dawgs Crush Cougs in Apple Cup!

Washington wrapped up their 2010 season with a dominating 51-14 win over Washington State. It was a bitter-sweet day in Seattle as the Husky fans said goodbye to an all-time favorite Husky, Jake Locker, who will certainly be a 1st round NFL draft pick. Locker went out in style earning player of the game honors with 352 passing yards and 3 touchdowns (2 passing, 1 rushing), in just a little over a half of play. The Huskies sprinted out to a 31-0 halftime lead behind 2 first quarter passing touchdowns from Locker, a 2nd quarter rushing touchdown from Locker, a Chris Polk 16-yard scamper, and a K Rasp field goal as time expired in the half. The first-team offense got one series in the second half and had to settle for a field goal when their drive stalled at the Cougars 7 yardline.

Washington's second-team offense finished the game outscoring Washington State 17-14 racking up 185 yards in a quarter and a half. Reserve running back C Shaw led all rushers on the day racking up 142 on 18 carries in relief of Chris Polk and in mop up duty. Polk rushed 12 times for 90 yards. Both backs scored a rushing touchdown. Jermaine Kearse and Malion Barnett both topped 100 yards receiving, Kearse hauling in 5 passes for 104 yards and Barnett had 3 catches for 113 with both of them finding the endzone once each. Devin Aguilar also scored a touchdown on one of his 3 receptions that totaled 81 yards. The Huskies offensive explosion totaled 617 yards on the day.

The Husky defense shut the Cougar offense down all day, except for a couple big plays. Kalani Aldrich led the unit with 6 tackles and 2 sacks. Cameron Elisara had 5 tackles and one for a loss. The Huskies defense held Washington State to 286 yards and 2-10 on 3rd Down Conversions.

Now, Washington will eagerly await the result of the UCLA-USC game, both of whom the Huskies beat. If the Trojans can give the Bruins their second loss of the season, Washington can book their tickets to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl. As it stands now, Washington will face the Texas Longhorns in the Holiday Bowl on December 30th.

    Pasadena Bound!

With the 38-31 victory by USC, Washington, SC, and UCLA all finish at 7-2. The Huskies beat both of the LA schools, so they will represent the Pac-10 in the Rose Bowl against the Fighting Illini of Illinois. The Huskies have made quite a turn-around from 0-12 in 2008 to Conference Champions in 2010.

    Washington Wins the Rose Bowl

After sneaking into to it's first Rose Bowl in 9 years, Washington took full advantage of their opportunity beating Illinois 24-15. Chris Polk scored all of Washington's touchdowns, 2 on the ground and 1 through the air. Polk scored from 1 and 3 yards out on the ground in the 2nd quarter, then scored the only touchdown of the 3rd quarter to push Washington's lead to 15 on a 76-yard touchdown reception on a swing pass. Polk finished the day with 225 yards of total offense, 137 rushing and 88 receiving. Jermaine Kearse caught 3 passes for 67 yards, Kavario Middleton hauled in 5 for 59, and Marlion Barnett caught 3 passes for 47 yards. Jake Locker, in his final collegiate game, completed 15 of 23 passes for 276 yards 1 touchdown and 1 interception.

Washington improved to 10-3 on the season. While they do lose Locker and a few other key starters, many of the 2010 contributors are undercalssmen and the Huskies hope to continue their upward trend in 2011.

Good bye Jake, you will be missed.(y)
