Week 1: Arizona State @ Colorado Arizona State and Colorado Open the Season with an Overtime Show Stopper Arizona State opened the season by walking into Colorado and tearing the heart out of the buffalo faithful coming away with a 30 to 27 victory in overtime to open the 2009 campaign. The game was a tale of two gameplans as Arizona State would operate effectively through the air while Colorado ground away on the ground. Arizona State quarterback Danny Sullivan picked apart the Colorado defense in route to a 21 of 30 performance compiling 243 yards and 2tds to go along with his player of the game award. None would be bigger than his final pass in overtime when he rolled right and found a diving Dimitri Nance in the endzone for the final touchdown on a 3rd and goal play from the 8 after Colorado had already settled for the fieldgoal. Nance would do his own damage out of the backfield as well, carrying the ball 22 times for 95 yards. Despite the loss Colorado fans have to be encouraged to see that Hawkins has overcome his accuracy issues from last season under center as he would go 18 of 25 for 213 yards with 2tds and no interceptions. Darrell Scott also lived up to the hype as he would earn player of the game honors in a losing effort by carrying the ball 28 times for 112 yards with 1td.
