Week 1: Baylor vs Oregon Close But No Cigar.. "They ARE who we THOUGHT they were!!! ...And we let'em off the hook!!!" http://bit.ly/d6cuoo EUGENE, OR- The Baylor Bear came into Autzen Stadium heavy underdogs against Fourth-ranked Oregon Ducks, and they gave the ducks all they could stand. The line on this game as Oregon by 21, but it became apparent that this would be a defensive struggle throughout. It came down to a Robert Griffin throw to the corner of the endzone that went through Josh Gordon's hands as time expired. The redshirt sophomore appeared to anticipate the contact as he received a shot after the dropped pass. The Baylor defense was surprisingly steady as Baylor lead the Ducks in almost all of the statistical categories -- except the one that mattered -- the final score. Coach Patza, although a bit frustrated at letting the golden opportunity of beating a top 5 team on their home field get away, seemed pleased with his teams play. "We showed a lot of heart this afternoon. I learned a lot about my team, once we got down a couple of scores, we kept fighting." On offense, the Bears struggled with trying to established the run game against a mighty Oregon defensive front. Sophomore Robert Griffin threw a career high 48 times for 337 yards. "We had to abandon the run. It got to a point where we were getting negative yards every run attempt.", said Patza about the large number of passing attempts. The Bears hope to use this game as a learning step in their way to getting better. Next up, they have the North Texas mean Green. Then, the highly anticipated match-up with the Maryland Terps.
