    Bills Overcome 17-Point Deficit

The season finally kicked off in Buffalo with a visit from our divisional foe, the New York Jets and former QB E.J. Manuel. The Jets opened up the game with the ball and chewed up solid 6 minutes off the clock before settling on an early field goal. Buffalo's offense really struggled to move the the ball for much of the opening half against a stingy Jets defense and the Bills defense was doing it's best to not let things get out of hand. Buffalo began to swing the momentum pendulum when they had New York backed up inside their own 15 and facing a 3rd & forever. QB EJ Manuel slung a deep ball down the right sideline to WR Stephen Hill and the big man went up and snagged it out of the air over two Buffalo defenders and walked his way in for the 86 yard touchdown to lead 10-0. Buffalo's offense had no answer yet again and before they could blink, Manuel was tossing his 2nd touchdown of the evening to AJ Green to lead 17-0 with less than 30 seconds before halftime. Buffalo QB Drew Hale finally figured out this wasn't the preseason and got things rolling. A connection to WR Marquise Goodwin and two to Sammy Watkins got Buffalo into New York territory. The Jets also helped out with back-to-back roughing the passer penalties. The clock ticked down but Buffalo got some much needed points with a field goal from Chandler Catanzaro.

The 2nd half was a completely different story. Buffalo opened with the ball and moved methodically down the field. The drive resulted in a 32 yard touchdown to a wide open Robert Woods. On the ensuing NYJ drive, RB Christine Michael fumbled on the first play of the drive and Buffalo jumped all over it. However, The Jets defense stood strong and held Buffalo to another field goal to maintain their lead 17-13. On the next drive for New York they were on another solid drive when Michael put the ball on the ground again after converting a 3rd & short. Buffalo made the most of this possession and Hale hooked up with rookie TE Doral Milliner for the 22 yard touchdown to snag it's first lead, 20-17. As the Jets took their next possession into the 4th quarter, they had moved to midfield when a play action pass went corrupt. Manuel perfected the fake and WR AJ Green ran a deep crossing route with open field to his outside, Manuel's pass wasn't outside enough and safety Aaron Williams jumped in front of it to snag his first interception of the season. Buffalo ran the ball down the throat's of the Jets defense for the remaining 9 minutes of the game. Hale completed a crucial 3rd down pass to Sammy Watkins to seal the deal and start the season with a 20-17 victory.
