Week 1: Cowboys(21) vs Lions(34) Lions Get First Win of the Season at Home In a game of contrasting halves the Lions and Cowboys duked it out on Ford Field in Detroit. The first quarter started with a long drive by the Lions that ended in a field goal. The Cowboys went three and out on their first possession of the game, but was able to get on the scoreboard on a poor read by Matthew Stafford. Terrance Newman took it the bomb intended for Calvin Johnson back to the house for a 46 yard int return. The Lions were able to answer though as Aaron Brown took it in for a 14 yard TD. Calvin Johnson taking advantage of single coverage In the second half Calvin Johnson Jr finally woke up from his offseason sleep as he reeled in two 80+ yard passes for touchdowns to help the Lions secure their lead. On the Cowboy's side Miles Austin caught a big third down pass and took it to the house to bring the Cowboys withing a field goal at 21-24. Tony Romo with a rough game. The big story of the day came from the Lion's strong red zone defense as they picked off Tony Romo three times inside of the 10 yard line. The first of these came on the following Cowboys possession with one of Louis Delmas's red zone interceptions. In the end it came down to turnovers and the Lion's got them when they needed them most, in the red zone.
