RESURGENCE... It's what the Lions hoped to do in 2011... Down in the Big Sombrero for week 1, the Lions looked to continue their winning ways from late in the 2010 season. Things started off slowly for the Lions, as Tampa Bay began the game with the ball and systematically drove the ball down the field and capped it off with an incredibly well thrown ball from QB Josh Freeman to superstar TE Kellen Winslow. An immediate three and out for the Lions handed the ball right back to the Bucs. Luckily for the Lions, the Bucs drive was stalled at midfield and forced a punt. With the ball dropping at or around the 10 yard line, Stefan Logan called off the kick to let it bounce into the endzone, but unfortunately for the Lions, the flank guys blocking the gunners ran into the ball and the Bucs recovered at the Lions 10 yard line. With niece field position, the Bucs capitalized again to Kellen Winslow on an unbelievable one hand catch in the corner of the end zone in tight coverage. Down 14-0, the Lions were able to finally get on the board thanks to a nice drive capped off with a sharp TD pass from Matthew Stafford to Calvin Johnson. A stalled drive got the Lions back with under 3 minutes to play in the half, and again the Lions were able to get in the end zone thanks to a 1 yard TD run by Maurice Morris. A well executed hurry up offense got the Bucs into FG range to retake the lead going into halftime, 17-14. The Lions would score 10 more points in the 2nd half, all on the shoulders of little Jahvid Best and his 181 total yards and 1 TD. Defensively, the Lions did enough to keep the Bucs off the field, but clearly have some work to do. Good game djnnfl.
