Post WEEK 1 Game summaries only. You'll post your S7, then S8 week 1 next year, etc. etc.
wth? why cant we have a new thread each week. why do we need to combine seasons? we dont need to conserve space. just doesnt seem logical to me. Ive had to go back and scroll through a bunch of weeks already to find old game summaries, would have been easier if i just found a thread for that week
You think so?
UNLV Upset by the Redhawks
UNLV's season didn't start the Rebels fans had planned. A 26-22 loss to Miami of Ohio is not acceptable. "We gotta a lot of things we gotta discuss this week. Especially the offensive line. They had the worst game of my entire tenure here." says coach Beardown. "We cannot do anything when all we need is a first down to seal the game and the oline can't block for one yard on 3rd and 1. Adam Smith made an amazing pick but it was all for not." The defense had :46 to stop the Redhawks offense but they gave up a big pass on a corner route which put them in the redzone. They almost had them stopped for a field goal but another corner route with a tip toe catch ended it. The offense couldn't do much either though. "I think the Pistol is too odd for this team right now. I think we're going back our old offense because everyone else is familiar with it." Says coach Beardown. "We'll get our offense together and hopefully yield better results. This loss was a huge loss because we cannot lose another OOC game."
Season 7 - Week 1: Alabama 24 Air Force 52
This is by far the best team all around that Air Force has had. QB Smith was effective and back-up Berry was spot on as well. RB Barrett is a lot like Reggie Bush. For the first time in a very long time Air Force has solid RBs and depth. Coach Noffke isn't concerned if Barrett gets injured since he has utilized Barrett on punt return and kick return. Barrett finished the game where he left off last season rushing for +200 yards. The first play of the game was an off-tackle and he took it to the house 75 yards. RB Ralph had a solid day as well rushing for over 80 yards. One thing happened in this game that has not occurred in any Air Force game in the last six seasons, not one single option run play was called by Coach Noffke. When asked by the press after the game Coach Noffke said, "Air Force is now at the level to play smash mouth football, if defenses want to crash the box then we got play-makers at the WR positions to exploit that, something we have not had in previous years."
Coach Noffke takes on Utah in week 2. For the first time in a long time it will not be SDSU. Coach Noffke looks to get the momentum rolling really and a victory against Utah would do just that.
Coach Noffke was proud of his teams performance and hopes Air Force can continue this success with their new offense as the season progresses.
good! i hate playing you in week 2!
Was a bitch =/ fuck the offense. Zona for life. Mark it down.
first play of the year, Andrews is hit as he throws. the pass was knocked down but Andrews had to leave with an injury. Fox (the transfer) comes in and has a wide open man crossing the field and the LB jumps way up to tip the pass. Andrews steps back in and finds Banks on a 14 yard pass that Banks ten carried 61 yards after the catch forthe season's first TD.
after allowing a FG, the Aztecs tok back over and Tate's first carry of the year busted off for 13. 2 plays later, Andrews hit Carroll across the middle and he got lit up and fumbled over the ball for the years first TO. a few plays later, the Bruins found the endzone and took the lead
fist play in the 2nd quarter, Tate is forced to leave with an abdominal tear and will miss a week. allowing the true freshman Murphy to split time with Medley. Andrews continued to roll, throwing his 2nd TD to Banks as SDSU regained the lead.
after a few punts, SDSU was able to get a 3rd pass td in before half, this one to Owens. After a very fast 3 and out, Andrews hit Carroll on a 1 play 63 yard TD to end the half 28-10
at half, Andrews was just 11/18 but with 249 yards and 4 TDs. 131 yards were all yards after the catch by the WRs.
UCLA started the 2nd half with a 3 and out and the Aztecs capitalized as Carroll used his size to out jump the defender for his 2nd TD reception.
at one point in the 3rd, Medley was knocked out for nearly a quarter, then the first snap of the 4th, Murphy was knocked out of the game. coaches allowed players t rest up as the game was in hand still. Andrews didnt play the 4th quarter, allowing Fox to get some play time. a Few late FGs for SDSU and one deep TD on a mismatch for UCLA rounded out the game. 46-25 win. I gave me a 16.5 advantage and won by 21
Andrews ended the game 16/28 with 353 yards and 5 scores while Medley, Murphy, Tate and Andrews each had 22 yards on the ground. only difference was Tate's came on 5 carries while medley and murphy took more then 10 each. 4 receivers had multiple catches with Banks and Carroll leading te way each over 100 with 2 scores. In Brian Everett's first career game, he caught 2 balls for 69 yards. no drops on the day and more importantly, no sacks.
Defense played great. early on, UCLA pressed run hard and were successful, but they couldnt pass the ball when they needed to. Vaughn is back on AA form, leading the team with 9 tackles, Dunbar ended with 8. Will Fisher recored the only sack and Claude Clark pulled in the only INT.
All game, I tracked man coverage plays to see who was picked on...
Dawson: 1/3 for 26 yards and 2 passes batted down
Clark: 0/3, 1 pass batted down and one interception
Martin: 1/2 for 5 yards
Dunbar: 2/2 for 83 yards and a TD
Vaughn: 0/1 with one pass batted down
Bell: 1/1 for 16 yards
Carroll: 1/1 for 5 yards
overall on the day, UCLA QB Robert Hill was 10/25 for 184 yards, 3 TD and 1 INT and was 6/15 for 135 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT against man. Clark played great defense. The only catch against Dawson was a jump ball that he misjumped
The Cowboys get butt raped by the Longhorns of Texas 20-63
Coach Duke looked in horror as his team just got dismantled today. He was seen throwing everything down onto the ground on the sideline chewing out his team. "My offensive line is awful." He stated. They couldn't hold a damn block for more than 4 seconds. Thanks to that Freshman QB Mark Smith threw 7, yes 7 INT's. Worst performance by far by the Cowboys in the two years Coach Duke has been there. Hopefully the Cowboys can regroup and get a win next week.
ouch! I thought i had faith in your coaching after what ive seen the last few seasons. the CPU can come up with monster games sometimes.
True Freshman QBs are nearly impossible to keep calm and get hot with poor blocking. its hard enough to do it with good blocking!
You dont really have any other options at the moment unfortunately. his attributes are not too bad so in a year or 2, he could be a solid QB but it may be a shaky year
I got a true frosh as well. He played great for the situation. He was sacked 7 times! He went 17-28 and 2 TDs.
Man that by far was the worst game I have ever played
----------------------------------------------RAMS QB ORLANDO WARD LEADS AERIALASSAULT IN BLOWOUT OF RIVAL COLORADO----------------------------------------------
Despite Colorado State's dismantling of rival Colorado in the Rocky Mountain Showdown last season experts still predicted a close contest.
The game definitely started out that way. CSU's defense picked up right where it left off last season to force a punt. The new offense was headed by QB Orlando Ward. He was able to move the chains into Buffalo territory but after CU's defense forced a 4th and 1 the Rams settled for a field goal. CU would tie it up at the before the end of the first quarter, 3-3 tie ball game.
RB Darius Horne added the first touchdown of the season to give the Rams a 10-3 lead. The defense continued to hold up and prevent any points in the second quarter. Orlando Ward hit WR Patrick Lambdin on a few passes while in hurry up mode in an attempt to score before halftime. On 4th and inches from the goaline Horne would find the endzone for the second time with under 10 seconds left in the half. CSU lead 17-3 at halftime.
The third quarter the CSU defense didn't allow any points. Ward hit WR Ryan Henderson for a 34 yard touchdown pass on a corner pattern to increase the lead to 21. CU would drive down to the 2 yard line and score on a 4th down attempt in the fourth quarter to make it 24-10. The next drive Ward would throw his 2nd TD pass of the day on a 62 yard rocket to WR Kyle Robinson who broke a tackle to get to paydirt. Horne would add another touchdown in the 4th, his third of the day, to put CSU ahead 38-10 late in the 4th.
The Rams opened up 2016 with a blowout win over rival Colorado 38-10, and prepare to travel to Blacksburg to face Virginia Tech.
Akron proved to be a worthy match in week one for the Utah Utes, at least for the second string. A 31-0 halftime lead for the Utes proved not to be as secure as Coach DMan had hoped, as his second sting D allowed the Zips to at least make the game look as if it were contested a little bit. The play of the game came with Utah up 10-0 in the middle of the second. Akron had driven the ball down to the one-yard line, and was going for it on 4th down. The Zips attempted to pass the ball into the flats, when SS Maurice Sherman picked the ball on the goal line and raced 100 yds to make the score 17-0 and kill any momentum that could have went Akron's way!
Coach DMan is pleased with getting an opening weekend win, but knows that he immediatly must set his sights for next week when 6-time defending MWC champ Air Force comes into town. Coach Noff always brings a game squad, and Coach DMan noted this game will be of high importance for his young squad.
BYU kicked off the season with a home opener against the Baylor Bears. The offense was totally revamped during the spring, and BYU has switched back to it's traditional offense, the air raid. It was a close competition all spring for the starting QB position, but Charles Andrews was named the starter going into week 1. Baylor got the ball first, but quickly turned the ball over. BYU capitalized quickly with a 56 yard pass from Andrews to Franklin for a TD. Baylor responded with a FG, but BYU quickly scored again with a big pass play. This time Andrews connected with Smith for a 47 yard TD pass.
Going into the second, it was 17-3 BYU. Baylor would turn the ball over yet again, and BYU put together a nice drive that ended with a 4 yard TD scramble by C. Andrews. 21-3 BYU. Sophomore DT Todd McDougal forced a fumble on Baylor's next drive, and DT E. Stewart scooped it up for an 18 yard TD. 28-3 BYU. Luckily for Baylor, the Cougars would also cough up the ball on their next drive, which resulted in a Baylor TD. C. Andrews made one big pass play before the half, a 43 yard TD strike to C. Williams. 35-10 BYU going into the half.
The third quarter was quiet, but Baylor got back on the boards in the fourth with a 13 yard pass to J. Gardner. That would be their last score of the game, as BYU managed to put up 14 more points. Coach Fuzzy was proud of the way his defense played today (5 turnovers), but BYU also committed their share (2 INTs, 2 fumbles), which definitely needs to be improved. The Cougars will have a BYE next week, and will face #6 Michigan in week 3.
