It was a rainy day in Columbia, SC as Alabama came to town and crushed Clemsons title hopes. The Tide were carried by their rushing attack as they ran through the Tigers defense with ease. This efficiency on the ground made things easier for freshman quarterback Star Jackson to stay calm in the pocket and keep the ball in his teams posession. The play of the game came as Bama's running back Glenn Coffey rolled through three Clemson defenders to score the game clinching 13 yard touchdown.

    Canes' winners in Ann Arbor

Ann Arbor,MI- The Miami Canes went into "The Big House" and got themselves off to a good start. No Cane really put up great numbers just had a complete team effort. Robert Marve got the start under center and went 12-20 for 206 without throwing a td or int. G. Cooper had 23 carries for 85 yds and 3 tds, while back up rbs Thomas and Chambers also each scored once and went for 72 and 17 respectfully. Freshman Wr T. Benjamin led the way with 5 catches for 104 yds and L. Hankerson added 3 for 76 yds. The Canes D started a little slow allowing Michigan to march down the field on their first drive of the game but was able to tighten up and force a field goal, they didnt allow them to score from then on, including a 4th and goal stop at the 1 yd line (the next play resulted in a safety). The D held Michigan to -6 yds rushing and 147 yds of total offense for the game, 4-13 (30%) on 3rd downs and didnt allow a td on either drive into their redzone.

LSU Wins in commanding fashion over Arizona St. It wasn't easy though. AZ was winning after the 1st half where LSU's QB couldn't get much goin. But after Holliday pounded the rock most of the 1st half, it opened things up for the WR's. Freshman QB J. Jefferson passed for 277 yards with 3 td's and 0 int's. LSU Coach Les Miles was quoted before the season saying "for us to have success this year, we need our our freshman QB to play mistake free football". And that's pecisely what he did today. Future Heisman candidate Trindon Holliday rushed 22 times for 190 yards and 2 TD's. Top Receiver LaFell contributed 7 rec. for 96 yards and 1 TD while Toliver added 6 rec. for 118 yards. Overall a great start to the season against a strong #14 Arizona State.

Sloppy rainy game in Lubbock, Texas Tech wins big 45-3. Graham Harrell Went for over 400 yards and 5 scores but only completed 53% of his passes. Tech had three recievers with over 115 yards recieving and S. Woods chipped in with 70 rushing and a score. BYU was on the 1 yard line twice buy could not manage to punch it in as there recievers dropped big pass after big pass. Solid opening to season 1.
  6. #8 in the nation West Virgina came to Tennessee and had no energy. First play of the game, WVU fumbled a kickoff which resulted in a 17yd returned fumble for a TD. WVU only got 62 yards on the ground by the dynamic duo of white and devine(41 for devine on 11carries,21 by white on 10 carries). Tennessee starts a season with a huge win 37-3, Arian foster ran for 105 yards on 31 carries while Nick Stephens threw for 217 yds with 2td and 1 int. Big game ahead against Texas A&m next week.

The Nittany Lions started quik with a 17-7 lead at the end of the quarter. The Gamecocks worked there way back but could just not get a lead. It seemed like everytime the Gamecocks would score the Nittany Lions had an answer. The Gamecocks after today know they need to get there defense better after letting up 52 points to Penn St. The Gamecocks also need to Build Stephen Garcia confidence back up as he throws 5 interceptions while breaking the school record with 478 passing yards.

    (Champiagn, Illinois)

Week 1 began with what will be known as an instant classic for Mizzou fans, as the #7 Tigers knocked off the #15 Fighting Illini 24-21 in the pouring rain at Memorial Stadium.

Illinois jumped out to an early 7-0 lead after a Mizzou fumble that set the Illini up with great field position. Both teams battled to 21-14 Illinois lead at halftime. During the halftime Coach PK made some defensive adjustments to counter the Illini passing attack that had been taking advantage of the rain soaked coverage. Midway through the 3rd quarter the defensive adjustments began to pay off as the Mizzou defense shut down any sign of an Illinois passing attack and frustrated thier offense.

"We knew we had to start making some plays on defense and we did," said Coach PK. "Our men really started getting off the ball and flying to the point of attack and that's what gave us the opportunity to score at the end."

With the Mizzou defense rallying late in the game the offense lead by SR QB Chase Daniels began to find it's rythem.
Daniels went 21 for 38 with 248 yards and 2 td passes. The game winning pass game with over a minute left in play
as Daniels hit a wide open Jared Perry for a 17 yard catch as Perry fell backwards into the endzone.

With hardly no time left and no answer for the Mizzou defense the Illini went 4 and out allowing Daniels to kneel for the victory.
