Bears 24 -- Eagles 9 Bears Beat Eagles, Start the Season on a High Note Chicago, IL – On paper the Chicago Bears were the clear underdogs going into their week one matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles with players like tackle Joe Thomas, RB LeSean McCoy, FS Louis Delmas, and MLB Mychal Kendricks are talent rich and headed into the season as a clear playoff contender. The Bears on the other hand, coming off two poor seasons, and having a questionable draft, look to right the ship and contend in their division. It’s a good thing that the games aren’t won on paper, they’re won on the field. Chicago and Philadelphia traded punches early, but both teams struggled to get their offenses going. The Eagles were able to strike first putting up a field goal, and were in the position to score a touchdown following, but the Bears defense held and forced another field goal to make the game 6-0 in favor of the Eagles. The Bears started to find their rhythm in the second quarter with a balanced offensive approach. Jay Cutler moved the ball down the field and new offseason running back pickup Bryce Brown, who has big shoes to fill with the departure of Matt Forte, with his blend of speed and power, showed why the Bears had faith he could do it. Brown finished the day with 122 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. Tight end Martellus Bennett had the play of the game when he was able to split the defense on a fly route and out jump his defender to pull in 38 yard strike from Cutler and hit pay dirt. The Chicago offense going into the season looked to be in a better position than the defense, but again, Chicago’s gritty effort on the defensive side of the ball showed why the games are won on the field. Two rookies made huge impacts for the Bears in this game starting with 2nd round outside linebacker Sateki Swain leading all defenders with six tackles before having to leave the game with a bruised sternum. Free Safety Peniel Ratliff had a beautiful interception late in the game that helped seal it for the Bears. Are the Bears for real? Time will tell, but judging by the player’s quiet confidence and swagger they think they are, and that is the number one thing that matters right now. Great game Miki1369! Good luck the rest of the season.
