Week 1: Toledo @ Purde Toledo came out with a bang. Dejuane Collins broke a 31 yard run and set up a PA pass to Stephen Williams from Aaron Opelt. A Fumble gave the Rockets a chance to take a two score lead and did with a Collins run. The Rockets forced a three and out and the sophomore TE from Elyria, Ohio scored on a pass from D.J. Linehen, the backup QB who replace Opelt due to some back spasms. The Rockets ended the first with a 21-0 lead. The second began with much of the same as Collins put it for 6 on the goal line set up by efficent passing from Linehen, 28-0 lead by Toledo and Purdue began to find life. Jaycen taylor broke a 20+ yard run and Joey Elliot's timely passing on third down led to a Purdue TD. Purdue looked to have life the crowd was into the game again and with 30 seconds left in the half, however the ensuing kickoff was returned by Stephen Williams and the Rockets quieted the crowd with a 35-7 lead. The second half was much more uneventful as neither team found the endzone. Toledo was short on a FG attempt in the third. Toledo CB Desmond Marrow intercepted Joey Elliot in Toledo Territory in what could have been a scoring drive for the boilermakers. However the rest was a stifiling run defense from both teams in the second half and a bend but don't break when it came to the pass. Barry Church was the leading tackler for the Rockets, and was putting a stop to Taylor of the Boilermakers throughout the day. All-in-all the Rockets were able to manage themselves well and not let Purdue grab momentum. The Rockets look to be a clear favorite in the MAC if they play like this on Saturdays.
