    Week 1

    Vikings 31 Bears 15

The Vikings opened the 2011 Mega season at home against their NFCN rival Chicago Bears. And behind their opportunistic defense and Adrian Peterson's 140 yards on the ground would defeat the Bears 31-15.

The Viking defense forced 6 Jack English interceptions on the day, while also appying constant pressure to the young qb. Matt Forte was held in check, and the Viking D played an all around great game.

On offense the Vikings used a strong run game and opportunistic air attack to capitalize on the Bear miscues. Peterson had an 86yard TD run, and rookie rb Khiary Jenkins added 2 TD's of his own.

GG car and ggod luck the rest of the way.

    Notable performers:
Alain Jackson and Terrance Taylor each get an INT from the DT position.
Asher Allen ignores the trade rumors and adds 2 Ints of his own.

GLENDALE, AZ - The Baltimore Ravens opened the season in the desert, taking on the Arizona Cardinals. Both teams started the game with tough defense. In the first quarter, the Ravens turned an INT into a FG, added another, and the Cards made one of their own. The Ravens also had a TD called back on a penalty. Baltimore's new offense kept moving the chains and Flacco was making the important throws. Another Hauschka FG extended the lead to 9-3. After a Matt Ryan pass to convert a 3rd was held short, the Ravens went on a long march. LeRon McClain powered home a TD run for a 16-3 lead. In the blink of an eye, Zona KR Osej Miller returned the next kickoff for a 104 yard TD. The Ravens 2 minute drill answered quickly. Ray Rice took a short flip in the flat, shed one tackler, juked another and broke free for a 67 yard score. The Ravens kicked short this time, but it made no difference. Osej Miller found a seam and returned his second KR for a TD. 23-17 at the half.

The Ravens took the 2nd half kickoff and were forced to punt. The Arizona offense couldn't sustain their drive and punted back. Finally, the Ravens got going. Flacco marched the team into the redzone. He hooked up with Tiquan Underwood who turned upfield and carried a tackler into the endzone on a 13 yard score. The 2 point conversion failed, and the Ravens held a 29-17 lead. Matt Ryan would finally get hot, connecting with Fitz and his big TE to move the chains. They would settle for a FG as the 3rd quarter ended. Into the 4th, the Ravens had yet another TD pass called back as Flacco had passed beyond the LOS. He would redeem himself on the next drive, flipping a screen to Donald Driver who followed his entourage for a 45 yard touchdown. Down 36-20, Ryan answered quickly. He tossed a perfect pass to Merrill in the back corner of the endzone, and the successful 2 point conversion cut the Raven lead to 8. Baltimore was forced to punt again and Ryan started moving the chains once again. He'd try for another pass to Wells out of the backfield but Terrell Suggs was shadowing him perfectly. He intercepted the pass and returned the ball all the way down to the Arizona 15. The Ravens converted a 1st down and were able to burn the clock out and kneel for victory.

    Flacco - 19-25-231 yds, 3 TD

The Redskins would start off the year with a big win over their division rivals the New York Giants. The game would start off going back and forth. Both defenses would play well for stretches followed by good offensive play.

The Giants would get on the board first on their second drive on a short rush by Brandon Jacobs after a time consuming drive. The Skins would strike right back quickly. After a play action pass for 31 yards to Devin Thomas, Jason Campbell would find rookie wideout Seantrel Blakely for a 21 yard touchdown. Blakely would be hit right at teh goal line, but replays would show it for the score. 7-7 after the first quarter.

The Giants would put up another drive this one moved forward thanks to a 31 yard pass to Kellen Winslow. Brandon Jacobs would get his second score from short yardage and the 14-7. The Skins would be stopped on their next drive, but Reggie Bush would fumble the punt return giving the Skins new life. A 20 yard rush by Ahmad Bradshaw would set up the 16 yard strike to Blakely again. 14-14.

The Giants would start another drive. However Reggie Bush would put the ball on the ground again with two minutes to go in the half. The Skins would fail to capitalize this time. After punting the ball back, second year corner Barnes would pick off Eli and bring the ball to the Giants' 10 yard line with 32 seconds left. The Skins would get it to the 2 yard line, but would end up having to kick the field goal for the 17-14 lead at the half.

The Skins would start off the second half with a quick drive ending with a 26 yard score to Santana Moss for the 24-14 lead. Defenses would clamp down for the rest of the third and at the start of the fourth quarter, Laron Landry would pick off Manning and return it 41 yards for the touchdown and 31-14 score. The Giants would respond quickly with a 12 yard pass to Steve Smith, but the Skins would eat up the rest of the half getting a late field goal from Matt Bryant. Rocky McIntosh would intercept Eli on the next drive to seal the game 34-21

Game Ball to rookie Blakely for his two touchdowns on his first two catches in the NFL.

Tennessee played host to the division rival Jaguars in week 1. The Titans went right down the field on their opening drive capping it off with a CJ2K 30 yard TD run. On the Jags opening drive they crossed midfield and appeared to be doing the same thing when Davon Morrison picked off a James pass and it appeared the Titans were gonna put it on the Jags. Unfortunately that pick was only the beginning as both teams combined for 7 ints in this game. The Jags actually picked the ball right back off a few plays later and then tied the score up 7-7.

    2ndqtr-
MJD busted a 17 yard TD run to open this quarter up and the Jags now had their first lead 14-7. It wasn't until the :07 sec mark that Tennessee would tie the game up again at 14 on a Lendale White 1 yard plow.

    3rdqtr-
This quarter was filled with defense and only had one score. That score was a TD pass to Phelps for Jacksonville from 11 yards out and it was 21-14 at the end of 3.

    4thqtr-
At the 6:38 mark in the fourth quarter J.Scobee connected on a 23 yard FG after the Titans D held in the redzone. This made the score 24-14 Jacksonville. Jake Scott who had 4(3 in first half) picks and 0 TD's summoned his offense up on the side of the field and reminded his guys about the playoff loss and how much work they put in during the offseason. Him and the rest of the bunch rallied! Almost four full minutes later he connected with Levell Hawkins in the back of the endzone for a 9yard TD pass and the score was 24-21 with 2:57 left in the game. The Titans kicked the ball deep and left if up to the defense to make a stop. On third 5 from their own 30 yardline the Jags completed an out route that was close to a first down but short by a yard. Tennessee got the ball back and scored as Jake Scott connected with Nate Washington on a 66 yard TD pass in which he shrugged off a would be tackler and the Titans completed the come from behind victory 28-24! Jacksonville wound up throwing a pick to Trufant and Tennessee took the final minute off the clock to go 1-0 on the new year.

The Falcons and Panthers open the season under the warm, cool lights of Bank of America Stadium. The two teams met last year in the season opener with Atlanta winning a tight game 41-37.

The Panthers would start with the ball, and HB DeAngelo Williams would begin 16 weeks of pounding the ball up the gut. After moving the ball to the Falcons 48, QB Vince Young would hit newly acquired WR Sammie Stroughter for a touchdown. Atlanta would be forced to go 3-and-out on their first possession, which gave Carolina a second score on the board, following a 2-yard run by Williams. Then, on what is sure to be a regular occurrence this season, QB Kurt Warner passed to the #3 overall pick Deon Grimes for his first touchdown pass of his career, a fantastic 74 yard effort. The score was 14-7 after the first quarter.

Carolina would be forced to punt on their next possession, but Atlanta gave it right back with Warner throwing an interception to CB Richard Marshall. This would ultimately set up a Panthers field-goal. On the next drive, Warner would again hit Grimes on a beauty pass for 46 yard gain which would setup a 2-yard TD by HB Jerious Norwood. Things were looking pretty interesting, even more so as the Atlanta defense continued to keep the Carolina offense stifled. Forced to punt, P Jason Baker would aim high and short in an effort to keep Grimes from getting a big return. Despite oncoming pressure, Grimes would take the ball but then get hammered by CB Captain Munnerlyn. The ball would get scooped up and returned 23 yards by SS Sherrod Martin. The teams would go into the locker room at the half separated by 10-points (24-14).

With their best efforts behind them, Atlanta started sucking in the second half. First came another fumble on the kickoff by Grimes, which setup a 3-yard run by QB Vince Young. When watching the replay, it appears that Grimes was down by contact (knee) before the ball popped out, but the play was not reviewed.

Things only got worse for the Falcons as Warner would throw 3 more interceptions which led to an 8-yard touchdown by DeAngelo Williams, and a field goal. Despite a solid drive late in the game, Atlanta would only manage to put 3 more points on the board, and they would lose the game 41-17.

Highlight: WR Deon Grimes 3 rec 146yds, 2 touchdowns, this kid is good!
Lowlight: KR/PR Deon Grimes two fumbles which led to Carolina touchdowns.

Highlight: QB Vince Young 8/11, 111 yards, 1 TD, 32 yards rushing, 1 TD.
Lowlight: Falcons HB Michael Turner getting clobbered by SS Charles Godfrey, knocking him out of the game with a bruised sternum in the first quarter.

GG Rich! Cya in two weeks!

The chargers opened the season against Miami's new coach Junior.

After a quick 3 and out San Diego got the ball a started the game with a lengthy drive that end with a LT TD. Dolphins QB White struggled to get much going and got intercepted by SS Barkley, a FG followed to build a 10 points lead.

In the second quarter Miami's D started getting pressure on Rivers swinging the momentum. White's mobility was too much for the bolts D to contain and after getting in the red zone found FB Polite (who broke a couple of tackles) and scored Miami's first TD. The chargers offense was struggling after a good start and Miamis took advantage forcing a 3 and out leaving enough time to mount a last drive to end the half. As the dolphins were driving deep in chargers territory, white forced a pass to the endzone that Cromartie picked, with a couple of key blocks he returned it 106 yards the close the half with a TD.

    Half Time
    San Diego 17
    Miami 7

The second half started as the 1st ended with San Diego adding points to the score. First was diminutive HB sproles that slashed his way 7 yard to paydirt and then keading add 3 more points to stretch the lead to 20 points.

The dolphins put together another good drive to start the 4th. Pat White found WR Hartline for another TD that brought Miami within 2 scores. The dolphins were determined to make a run for the comeback and came out for an onside kick, San Diego's coach call for a TO to send the hands team out, but the dolphins kick it deep. Rivers managed the rest of the game with short passes and LT gaining enough to keep the ball away from the Dolphins for good.

    Final Score
    San Diego 27
    Miami 14

GG Junior, Gl rest of the season.

    Rams victoroius over Cowboys 27-17

The Dallas Cowboys hosted the St. Louis Rams to open the the 2011 MEGA regular season. The Rams looked to work in a more west coast passing attack and later work in the run to get bigger holes for star RB Steven Jackson.
Donnie Avery came to play on the rams first drive, he had 4 catches including a 9 yard TD to make it 7-0.
Tony Romo had a horrible day throwing the ball and on the Cowboys first possession threw a bad pick to a covered man, but the Cowboys defense stiffened and forced a rams FG. Cowboys answered with a FG to end the first quarter, it looked like the cowboys and romo where finally getting it together but stalled in the redzone.
Over the rest of the game, the Rams defense was all over Romo and forced 5 interceptions. Midway threw the 4th when the rams were up 27-3, Romo got benched and rookie QB Mccallister came in to do quite well. The cowboys rallied around the rookie but it was too little too late.

Saints open season with close win

The Saints opened their season welcoming the Detroit Lions into town. The Saints started out clicking on their aerial assault by going deep twice on the opening drive, once down the middle of the field to J. Shockey and the other to M. Colston. Once down field J. Stewart ran the ball in from the 1 to score his first TD of the season. From the start it looked like the Saints would be marching all over the field. As we all know though how you finish is alot more important than how you start. The Lions quickly made adjustments to help out their secondary by bringing constant pressure on a variety of exotic blitzs. The Lions ended up with 6 sacks total and many more knock downs.

The Lions offense got into gear going deep to Calvin Johnson and eventually got into the endzone on a pass from Stafford to Williams. The game remained close through out although the Lions never could take the lead they did take out 2nd year phenom running back Girley for 8 weeks with a herniated disc. Stewart was ready to carry the load though as he put together a solid day compiling 82 yards n 22 carries and a TD. The Saints also got a TD reception from J. Shockey who ended up with 5 catches for 79 yards and the aforementioned receiving TD. In the end it was the leg of the Saints kicker that secured the game as he sent a 44 yard field goal through the uprights as time expired. The Saints were happy to get their season off on a positive note and look forward to getting back on the practice field and back in the film room.
