    SDSU 16-14 TTU

San Diego State goes to Lubbock and beats Texas Tech 16-14. The Aztecs fell behind early and saw a couple of long drives end with no points on 2 missed field goals. Taylor Potts hit Texas Tech Player of the Game Alexander Torres for a 49-yard touchdown strike 2 plays after it had appeared the Aztecs defense had forced the Red Raiders to punt after a 3 and out, but a 15-yard roughing the passer penalty kept the drive alive. SDSU would miss 2 short field goals wide when their kicker/punter couldn't quite negotiate the 9 mile/hour wind, but on their 3rd possession, Player of the Game Brandon Sullivan would punch it in from 3-yards out off the tackle.

The 2nd half started with the Aztecs throwing an interception at the goaline, however, Texas Tech would try to run the option into San Diego State's blitz and Colin Shumate would tackle Potts in the endzone for a safety giving San Diego State a 9-7 lead. The Aztecs opened the 4th with a solid drive which was capped off by a play-action touchdown pass from Ryan Lindley to tight end Alston Umuolo from the 9-yardline to push the score to 16-7 with 3:44 to play. Texas Tech would drive down the field on their ensuing possession and score on a 5-yard pass from Potts to Billy Johnson a minute and seventeen seconds later to bring the Red Raiders to within 2. With all their timeouts, Tech decided to kick it deep to the Aztecs, but on the shoulders of Sullivan, San Diego State would get 3 of their 23 1st down on the day and run out the clock for a 16-14 victory.

San Diego State is 1-0 and will host Eastern Michigan next week in their home opener.

#22 Cinnci traveled to Moscow Idaho to take on the unranked Vandals to open the 2010 season for both teams.

Under second year Coach Milmont, the Idaho Vandals fielded a much improved defense via a hugely successful recruiting class. The Vandals started 7 freshman defenders and the improved skill was noticeable throughout the game.

Returning senior HB, DeOnte Jackson exploded in the first qtr showing his versatility. He started the game and the season for the Vandals with a 98 yd KO return for a TD. Idaho 7 Cinnci 0. Midway thru the 1st qtr., Jackson struck again... this time on an electrifying 105 yd return - missed FG. Idaho 14 Cinnci 0. Jackson added a 5 yd rushing TD as well to end the 1st qtr Idaho 21 Cinnci 0.

The second qtr was more of the same. The Vandal offense took advantage of the field position their young defense was giving them. At one point in this game and during the 2nd qtr., the Vandals were leading 31 - 0. With 1:28 to go in the half., Cinnci finally found the endzone by taking advantage of man to man cvg vs. one of the Idaho freshman starters. Idaho shrugged that off and struck back immediately though as they made their way down the field in just over a minute and scored with 5 seconds in the half.

Half time score : IDAHO 38 CINNCI 7

Who was it who once said... "that's why they play the game". How appropriate that comment would be in regard to the 2nd half of this one. Idaho came out with a confidence built upon an absolute dominant 1st half. Cinnci, on the other hand, was shut down in every single aspect of their game. Cinnci's half time coaches speech must have been one for the ages as they came out to play the game rather than accept a most assured loss. .

The Cinnci coaching staff focused on the mismatches with some of the Idaho freshman DB starters and took to the air. On the defensive side, Cinnci loaded the box and brought in their safties to shut down any running game for the Vandlas. This, of course, tempted Idaho to throw in the 3rd qtr. The Cinnci strategies couldn't have worked better as Cinnci scored two long pass TD's in man to man freshman cvg in the 3rd qtr. Cinnci also managed 2 INTS on Def. The 3rd qtr ended on a 43 yd TD fumble return for Cinnci as they narrowed the gap.
End of 3rd qtr score : IDAHO 38 CINNCI 27

4th QTR : Idaho continued to try and run the ball into the now frenzied Cinnci def. 2 minutes into the 4th qtr and Cinnci created and returned their second fumble TD 12 yds (adding 2 pt conv.). The score is IDAHO 38 - CINNCI 35.

The Vandals, heads spinning and unsure what to do kept the ball on the ground trying to nurse the clock and push the ball. Cinnci would have none of it and amazingly created and returned their 3rd fumble return for a TD, this time from 30 yds out. Yes that's right folks... Idaho who once led the game 38-7, was now losing 42 - 38 thanks to three straight scores via fumble returns by Cinnci.

The game would end with the same score. Idaho turned the ball over on 6 possessions in the 2nd half, including the final 5 possessions, the last three of which were fumble returns for TDs.

    Final score : IDAHO 38 CINNCI 42

So what did Idaho learn from this game? More than anything they have been taught a lesson on clock control. Only once in the second half did they attempt to nurse the clock to their advantage. Cinnci should never of had the TIME to score 35 pts in the 2nd half.

On the plus side, the Idaho defense showed a much improved run defense and they had incredible pressure on the Qb in the first half. senior HB Deonte Jackson returned a KO for a TD, a missed Fg for a TD and had over 100 yds rushing in the first half.

The Vandals coaching staff will take it on the chin for this loss and hopefully they are able to rally the troops heading into week 2.

#25 BOILERMAKERS SLIP THROUGH (LITERALLY) CHIPPEWAS FINGERS, 35-31

The Central Michigan Chippewas lost their first game of the season in a thrilling campaign. The score was tied most of the game until the fourth quarter when CMU was able to go ahead 31-28. With 46 seconds on the clock the Boilermakers drove down the field with a series of completed and incompleted passes. With 1 timeout and 8 seconds on the clock, Purdue stood at the CMU 38 yard line. Purdue's QB TerBush completed a 15 yard in to Gravesande who then broke a tackled from CMU's free safety with 3 seconds on the clock. As Gravesande slipped through his hands, the clock reached zero as he scampered into the endzone, going up by 3 and officially sealing the win for the Boilermakers.

Purdue, a talented rushing team, was able to adjust to the Chippewah defensive gameplan and pass for 377 yards with 4 TDs.

CMU's offense was led by a pass attack for 298 yards with 1 TD.

    PLAYERS OF THE GAME

CMU has another tough game against Hawaii and another tough user matchup. CMU will look to repeat their performance in the next game while limiting the turnovers.

I was kind of shocked myself. to start the game and the season, I returned a KO for a TD and then followed that with the same player returning a 105 yd missed FG for a TD. My HB was on fire. I also had him over 100 yds rushing in the first half using the option. I was playing a 5 man front on defense and for the whole first half the Cinnci QB was waaaaaay off the mark passing. It was utter dominance in the 1st half for me. All I needed to do was sit on the ball for the 2nd half. I guess I was a little annoyed when i couldn't run the ball which led to 2 INTs in the 3rd qtr. for me. I had this game wrapped up and I blew it. I got shut out in the 2nd half. 3 fumble TD returns on three str8 possesions will do it every time.

    Bowling Green @ #20 TCU

    BOWLING GREEN STUNS TCU, 40 - 28

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Bowling Green RB Willie Geter proved why he was voted a Preseason All-American. The senior rushed for 191 yards on 32 carries and scored 2 touchdowns to lead the Falcons over the Horned Frogs at TCU.

Bowling Green jumped out early 14- 0 with two touchdowns runs by Willie Geter and Freshman Mark Mays. TCU would not be phased as they scored to end the fist quarter on a 3 yard TD run by J. Cavness.

In the second quarter, TCU would start to establish their physical superiority. Cavness would score again on a 5 yard TD run amd WR L. Brock would beat the BG secondary deep to score on a 53 yard TD to give TCU a 21 - 17 lead at the half.

The third quarter would be a complete defensive struggle as TCU would begin to start loading up the box to stop Geter. The only score of the quarter was a 32 yard BG Field Goal.

BG would take over in the 4th. Willie Geter would score again on a 5 yard TD run to make it 26 - 21 after the 2pt conversion failed. On the next TCU possession, BG Linebacker E. Fells would return an interception 30 yards for a touchdown on what would be defined as the play of the game. The interception would give BG a 33 - 21 lead that they would never relinquish.

    KEY STATISTICS:

Boise State starts strong with a win over #18 Nebraska

The first quarter of this one was a defensive struggle with both teams just vying for position. BSU was finally able to sustain a drive in the 2nd and cap it off with a 23 yard TD pass from Moore to Pettis. Nebraska was able to tie the game in the third with good field position after a shanked punt. Boise answered with a TD run by the FG and then 1:18 later on another run by Avery. With the game well in hand Boise just ran the ball down the throats of a deflated Husker team and sealed the deal with a 26 yard FG in the fourth.

    FINAL SCORE: BSU-24 Nebraska-7

Player of the Game: MLB Daron Mackey 9 tackles and a key INT

Notes: Boise was actually out gained offensely in this game but the Bronco D made three INT's that were the difference maker.

Next game at #25 ranked Purdue.

Eastern Michigan upsets #24 Pittsburgh!!!! 28-21 final

This game came down to the wire as both teams just kept exchanging scores. EMU's Dwayne Priest was unstoppable in the first half racking up 75 yards rushing. Little into the 2nd quarter he was injured and out for the rest of the game. The backup Dominique Sherrer had big shoes to fill and came in earned POG honors with 3 TD's on the ground. The EMU defense was nowhere to be found at times, but it did force two huge turnovers when it counted.

Purdue needs last second catch to beat Central Michigan 35-31

Purdue barely got by Frisk and his Chippawas using a last second 38yard pass to score as time expired.

Purdue struggled early but managed to score on a 44yard pass from TerBush to Thomas.

CMU answered back driving down the field scoring from 43 yards out on a pass from Rifenbury to Brown. 7-7 after 1 qtr

in the Second both teams scored 2 TDs.. Purdue jumped out to a 21-7 lead and looked to be in control. but frisk mangaged to figure out some tendencys and was able to adjust and put up 14 points in the last 1:15 sconds on runs from 11 and 5 yrds. 21-21 at half.

CMU managed to take its first lead of the game with 2:56 left in the 3rd on a 24 yard field goal after being held inside the Purdue 5yrd line. Purdue retook the lead with a 24yrd pass down the left sideline from TerBush to Gravesande. 28-24 Purdue.

The 4th was a defense battle both teams turned it over forced punts etc.. but the light came on with 46s left in the game.. CMU pounded the rock into the endzone to take the lead for only the 2nd time in the game. 31-28.. Purdue felt like it had just lost a game it should have one.. Coach T2Express got his offense together and said we will win this game! with fire in his eyes he got his offense together and drew some stuff up on a white board. to the air the boilers went with 3 time outs and 70+ yards to go.. Purdue got down to the CMU 38yard line with 14 seconds left.. called a time out.. still to far to make a FG to send the game into over time, Coach T2Express dialed up the deep quick slants hoping to get 10-15 yards to set up a last second FG. TerBush dropped back and pump faked. clearing the middle of the field Gravesande was open running right to left. TerBush fired a pass down the hash and Gravesande caught it and started dashing closer to the goal posts.. CMU's FS rushed in to make a tackle and Gravesande was able to break through with 3 seconds left. and 15 yards to go he dashed for the Endzone.. and was able to cross as time expired sealing the victory for Prudue. 35-31..
