Harvard Rattles Off 27 Unanswered, Wins Big

Cambridge - The Harvard Crimson wasted little time before putting the first of several touchdowns on the scoreboard. After an early interception that gave the ball to the Crimson on the Dartmouth 30, Harvard HB Benny Van Buren took an off-tackle blast down to the one yardline. From there, junior QB Graham Wellington was able to sneak it in for the score.

Later in the first quarter, Dartmouth would retaliate when wideout Chip Blanco hauled in a short curl from Dartmouth QB Jeremy Hurd. Blanco shrugged off his defender's miserable attempt at a tackle and cruised into the endzone for the 65-yard score.

In the second quarter, Harvard added a short field goal when they couldn't punch it in from inside the ten yardline, and Van Buren tacked on another score a short time later; this one in the form of a 44-yard zone read.
This play seemed to be a microcosm of the game. Even when my team screwed up (see my blocker decide he'd rather come back to clip a trailing linebacker), Dartmouth found a way to shoot themselves in the foot (this time on a blown tackle attempt)
After an interception deep in Harvard territory, it looked like Harvard was ready to take a 17-7 lead into the locker room. But with less than a minute left, Wellington misfired on an out route and was picked off. A strong defensive effort from the Crimson ended in a 34-yard field goal by Dartmouth kicker Lance Garcia. 17-10 with less than 30 seconds left. But Wellington atoned for his misfire, and threw two beautiful passes to put the Crimson in field goal range with 8 seconds left. A stab at the endzone went incomplete, and Harvard Kicker Skyler Thurston sent one in from 41 yards out to widen the margin back to double digits.
In the second half, it was all Harvard. Van Buren added another score and wideout Roger Willingham added two touchdowns. A field goal between the touchdowns yielded the only other points of the game.
As enjoyable as this was from my end, I couldn't help but feel bad for Fuzzy. His team could do no right. I've never seen so many missed tackles as his team had. It was really unbelievable. At the same time, my secondary played lights out, forcing 4 interceptions and few coverage sacks as well. GG fuzzyl0gic
and good luck with the baby.

    Penn - 45
    Yale - 35

Full recap tomorrow. I was down 28-3 in the 2nd quarter before I came roaring back in the 3rd. Down 35-23 in the 4th, I scored a TD to bring it to 35-30, then returned a punt for a TD a minute later, followed by a nice user pick on DCD that I converted into a long TD the next play, putting me up 45-35 in a matter of minutes.

Yep, was up 28-3 around halftime and scored 7 more points the rest of the game. I could never get back in the game mentally, or something. Same exact thing happened the first time we played before we were disconnected in the 3rd, except worse the 2nd time around.

Steamer43 We need to cut it back to 7 minute quarters. With the lack of running game this year, these games are waaaay too long.

How do the rest of you feel about it? I'm in another OD with 7 minute quarters and don't even notice the difference to be honest. I don't have a problem with it as long as we're getting realistic scores.

At this rate we're going to be advancing about the same speed as the real NCAA season.
