Another scary start for the Chiefs

It was once again an ugly start for Kansas City as they played host to long-time rival Denver on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at sold out Arrowhead Stadium.

After winning the toss, the Chiefs went 3 and out and Denver easily reached the KC goal line, but could not cross it, settling for a 3-0 lead.

On the first play of the next possession, Jamaal Charles was hit hard and stripped of the football which was scooped up by Champ Bailey and returned for a 10-0 Denver lead to start the 2nd quarter.

The next drive saw Cassel going 6 for 6 to 5 different receivers, capped with a 1 yard td run by Charles making it 10-7 Denver with 2:42 in the half.

A quick 3 and out by Denver saw the Chiefs get the ball at the 2 minute warning. Cassel was once again clutch, completing passes of 23,24, and 29 yards on the way to another 1 yard Charles score to make it 14-7 Chiefs at the break.

The teams traded punts in a scoreless third, then Cassel put the game nearly out of reach with another impressive drive (5 for 6 with the one incompletion being a drop by Charles, who left the game with an abdominal injury).

The Broncos would add a field goal but by the time they got the ball back they only had time for a couple of desperation throws, which came up empty.

Kansas City moves to 5-4 on the season and 3-1 in the AFC West. Tuesday they begin preparing for their 2nd Monday night game in 3 weeks, possibly their toughest game of the season, a trip to Gillette Stadium for a showdown with Tom Brady and the vaunted New England Patriots.

Player of the game: Dwayne Bowe 8 receptions 154 yards
