The Chippewas played decent defense and had great rushing offense. These two key components led CMU to victory. The first half was a defensive chess match as both teams entered the lockeroom with 0 points. CMU rallied in the fourth to score 21 points which would seal the victory.

The Chippy's offense was led by Senior Evo Heisman Candidate Bryan Schroeder who rushed for 257 yards on 34 carries with 3 TD's. Quarterback Derek Rifenbury passed for only 79 yards on 7 completions. Tight End Charlier Hoch caught 3 passes for 10 yards and Jahleel Addae caught 2 for 46 yards.

CMU's defense was led by Linebacker Shane Torzy who had 8 tackles. Linebacker Landon Carter had 7 tackles and 4 TFL. DE Antonio Gaylord added 1 sack. Defensive lineman Patrick Monroe and Devon Jordan both added 1 sack.

The #19 Central Michigan Chippewas (8-0,5-0) will now travel to Western Michigan to face Coach Cimmy and the Broncos. The Broncos are having a great year with 6 wins and 1 loss.

Buffalo was led on offense by Jeffvon Gill's rushing and the key 3rd down passing of Davis. Both players had 2 TDs each. Jeffvon Gill also had a 64 yard KR return that set up the first of his 2 TDs.

Mosley showed why he is the number 2 back with a 25 yard td run in mop up duty.

In coach Big bear's second attempt at the helm, the Aztecs drew closer to respectability, but came up short once again.

Although the team clealry had a better game plan, it was clear that they are still looking for a playbook to compliment their talents.

Facing a tough UCF squad, SDSU fell behind by two scores quickly. The Aztecs' failings on defence would be a continuing theme.

Rallying behind the strong running of Adam Henry the Aztecs did draw closer and entered the half trailing 13-7 (thanks to a missed extra point by the Knights).

The third and fourth quarters saw the Knights continue to move the ball consistently on the ground and through the air. Broken tackles and bad Aztec positioning turned short gains into long ones for UCF.

Necvertheless, the new fighting spirit (not seen since coach jca departed) kept the Aztecs in the game. Shortly into the fourth quarter the Aztecs found themselves trailing 26-14. Mustering some tackling and moving the ball on offense stirred a great 4th quarter comeback, and after a two point conversion SDSU lead 29-26 with 1:28 to play.

However the defensive bugaboo returned and UCF moved the length of the field in short order. A broken backfield tackle on 3rd and 4 was the watershed. That failed tackle turned into a 34 yard gain and UCF quickly went up 33-29, a score the Aztecs could not match when they got the ball back.

The Aztecs have a very tough test next week against Colorado State.

Nevada Wolfpack (8-0) (6-0 conf.) hosted the Idaho Vandals (5-3) (3-2 conf.)

    Team 1st 2nd 3rd 4th TOT
    Idaho 07 14 00 03 24
    Nevada 07 24 00 07 38

    1st Qtr
The Vandals may have surprised the Wolfpack in the first qtr as they were able to force a punt on Nevada's opening possession and then efficiently moved the ball down the field on Nevada's home turf. The key may have been the Vandals gameplan to use the pass to set up the run. The Vandals scored first on a 9 yd pass into the flats to WR Preston Davis.

Nevada was noticeably sharper on their 2nd possession and worked the field masterfully mixing both run and pass. EVO Heisman hopeful Josh Fogerson ripped off a nice option for a long gain (see highlite below) which set up Nevada's first TD to tie the game.

Perhaps the other EVO Heisman hopeful on the other sideline, Idaho's Princeton McCarty, took that play as a challenge... On the Vandals next possession, he ripped a 25 yd speed option pitch. McCarty shed one tackler at the LOS, dodged another and was off to the races... not so fast though. As he crossed the 50 yd line, the Nevada CB who been blocked way back at the LOS amazingly caught up to McCarty and brought him down. The play might have gone 60+ yds and a TD if not for the great recovery and tackle. (see highlite below).

The teams were deadlocked after one qtr...
    Idaho 07 Nevada 07

    2nd Qtr
The EVO heisman race heated up in the second qtr. as both HB's got more touches. The defenses, however, seemed prepared and, for the most part, contained both HB's without letting them take over the game. The Vandals completed a grinding drive ending on a McCarty 1yd HB power dive to take the lead 14-7 ... but before the Nevada crowd had a chance to sulk, they were electrified by an 88 KO return for a TD by NEV returner L.Mark tying the game 14-14.

The Idaho sidelines had a character check at that point and knew they would need to snuff the crowd out if they were to have a chance. Methodically, the Vandals went back to work, mixing short runs from McCarty with a short pass game. Vandal TE Eric Briggs was highlited on this drive which included a 20+ yd reception at mid field and then a 14 yd strike to take the lead 21-14.

Nevada's Josh Fogerson had his second longish run of the day on Nevada's next possession, which was a methodical grinding drive to match what the Vandals had just done to them. With 1:03 in the first half, Fogerson blasted in from 1 yd out to tie the game 21-21.

Less than a minute to go in the half and the Vandals were going toe to toe with #1 Nevada, punch for punch... but perhaps it was just a matter of time before the Wolfpack defense took offense. With less than a minute to go, Vandal QB Brian Reader dropped back to look for a HB screen. The screen never developed, Reader got crushed and the ball fluttered into the waiting hands of Nev's J. Pressley who returned it 8 yds for a TD. After the game when questioned, Vandal head coach Milmont admitted they were trying a new play out of the new playbook introduced for this game and it was a complete disaster. QB Brian Reader would not recover his poise as he threw another INT on the very next possession, still inside a minute to go in the half. A FG ended the half and Nevada suddenly had a 10 pt lead...
    HALF TIME : Idaho 21 Nevada31

    3rd Qtr
The defenses bore down in the 3rd qtr and neither HB could get loose. At one juncture McCarty was very close to getting loose on a counter play, but a missed block end the gain after about 12 yds. If the block had been made, McCarty would have been loose in the secondary. Alas.. both teams punted back and forth as well as Vandal QB reader threw another pick... his poise shattered.
    Idaho 21 Nevada 31

    4th Qtr
The Vandals diligently pounded the ball, looking for a crack in the Walfpack D... waiting for McCarty to find daylight... but the door was closing with each passing minute. While inside the redzone, Idaho could not connect for a TD and settled for a FG. Nevada answered with the biggest play of the game on the ensuing possession as NEV QB Lantrip had a ton of time... stepped up and threw a 46 yd TD pass into a cover three zone. With 4:21 to go in the game, the Wolfpack was back up by 2 scores and the Vandals were finished.

This one would end 38-24. The Vandals had all the momentum thru most of the first half, but they never recovered from the pick 6.

    Idaho @ #1 Nevada

The Wolfpack knew that they were gonna face a talented Idaho team with P.McCarty at RB and a stable of great WRs.

    1st QTR

Idaho played very good defense, not allowing any chance for big offense gains for Nevada. On offense the Vandals were very efficient and drove the ball down the field with the run and pass game. Before the 1st QTR ended the Wolfpack finally got on the board with an 18 yard TD pass from JR QB T.Lantrip to Soph WR L.Washington.

    7-7

    2nd QTR

Idaho continued with efficient offense and drove down the field again for the TD. On the ensuing kickoff SR RB L.Mark returns it 88 yards for the TD.

Idaho then drives the ball down the field for another TD. With 1 min remaining in the half RB J.Fogerson pounds the ball in from 1 yard out for the TD. On 1st and 2nd down the wolfpack stop Idaho run game and call timeout both times. Up to this point the Idaho QB was perfect going 10-10 passing. So on 3rd and 13 Idaho calls up a screen pass, my DE was able to hit the QB while he was throwing and the ball went straight in the air to be intercepted by FR OLB J.Pressley for the TD.

With 30 secs left in the game Idaho throw another interception putting Nevada in FG range.

    4th QTR

Idaho drives down the field for a FG. Then a pass from JR QB T.Lantrip finds its way past the CB into the hands of JR WR B.Wimberly for a 46 yd TD pass.
