    Idaho thrashes Louisiana-Monroe 49-24

MOSCOW-The offensive struggles of Potato Nation earlier in the season seem to be gone. Wearing the all blacks in the Kibbie Dome, the Vandals carved up the ULM defense for 671 offensive yards. Led by quarterback Jim Rice, the Vandal passing attack accounted for 544 yards and 5 touchdowns. That number was greatly helped out by a 100 yard TD strike from Brent Terry to Mitchell Crockum. The bomb came after Vandal free safety Terrence Williams intercepted a ULM pass on the 1 yardline. Williams appeared to fall into the endzone but the officials disagreed, Jewing the Vandals into taking over just inside the 1. A delay of game penalty backed the ball up about 6 inches. From there, Idaho caught the Warhawks with their pants down as they brought the house, leaving Crockum racing unaccompanied through the ULM secondary. Terry quickly fired the pigskin to him, and he ran the last 80 yards on his own.

The much maligned Vandal defense came to play in the first half, holding the Warhawks to a three and out on their first possession of the game, and just 3 first half points. The effort allowed the team to jump out to a 21-3 halftime lead.

Even as the ULM offense got on track in the second half, they still couldn't stop the finely tuned machine that was the Vandal offense. Idaho finished a perfect 8-8 on 3rd down conversions. The Vandals scored touchdowns on all but 4 possessions. Two drives ended in interceptions, and the Vandals were stopped by halftime, and by kneeling the ball to end the game.

Rice, who may be the least mobile quarterback in Conference USA, showed why he's earned the respect of his teammates and is already seen as a leader in the locker room when he gutted out a 19 yard scramble in the 3rd quarter. Breaking his toe in the process, he got the ball down to a few inches away from the goalline (replay shows it should have been a touchdown). Idaho tailback Shawn Calhoun was able to finish the job on the next play.

The Vandals move to 4-6, holding slim hope for becoming bowl eligible, and the Warhawks drop to 5-5.

No kidding. After a 1-5 start, my team seems to have come out of the funk we were in. A decent chance we become bowl eligible now that we are 4-6 with games against winless Washington State, and UAB.
