    UAB 21 - Memphis 24

On a cold snowy afternoon UAB traveled to Memphis. UAB received the ball on the opening kickoff and took it to the house. Memphis was not able to do anything in the 1st quarter and UAB added another score in the 1st to go up 14-0. Memphis finally got the ball moving and scored on a 52 yard HB dive up the middle. with the score at 14-7, Memphis shutdown UAB and tied the game 14-14 with under 2 minutes left in the first half. UAB made a huge pass play that went for six with 59 seconds left in the 2nd quarter. Coach Noffke knew he had plenty of time and all 3 times out. Coach Noffke ran three plays and scored with 30 seconds left to go into halftime 21-21.

The second half was all about defense. Each team played outstanding defense in the second half. Memphis had a key 4th and inches stop and forced several turnovers. Also, Coach Noffke put the pressure on UAB QB more frequently in the second half forcing many sacks.

The only points in the second half came on a Memphis FG with just under 6 minutes to go in the ball game.

Memphis is now bowl eligible sitting a 6-4 with two games left. Coach Noffke is on pace to achieve all but one goal under his 1 year contract.

    UCF 26 (OT)
    S. Miss 23

UCF barely got out of the stadium alive in a game they were favored to win. After a quick 10-0 Southern Miss lead, UCF looked out of it, but they were able to be down 17-7 at half. In a defensive 3rd quarter, UCF crawled back to be down 17-10 but could not move the ball on offense. But with about 6 minutes left, Southern Miss let UCF back into the game throwing a pick which was returned for a TD by Bouye who made a very athletic play. UCF added a FG with 1:33 to take the lead but Southern Miss came back to attempt a 42 yarder with very little time remaining. They made the kick by hitting the right upright and the ball barely bounced in. UCF held S. Miss to a FG in OT, and a converted a huge pass on 3rd down to the 1 which set up a FB dive to win the game. UCF is 9-1 and will reach the C-USA title game with 1 win over either ECU or UTEP, but that will certainly not be easy. UCF was outgained this game and the turnovers were even, but the big pick-6 was the decider in the game.

    Rice 37
    Northwestern 30

Rice pulled off a big upset over Northwestern on the road to pick up their 2nd win of the season. Sitting at 1-8 going into the game, coach Steamer pulled the plug on the team's spread offense and implemented his own pro scheme. It wasn't all that successful as the Owls trailed 23-10 early in the 3rd with their only touchdown coming from pick-6. Rice managed to get back in the game when back-up QB Nick Fanuzzi came in and threw a 38 yard TD and a field goal early in the 4th made it a 23-20 game. Northwestern struck quick though to take a 30-20 lead. On the following drive on 3rd down at the NW 33, it looked as if the worst possible thing could have happened to Rice. QB Fanuzzi tried to throw the ball but was hit the ball fell to the ground ruled as a fumble and returned all the way for a TD which would have given Northwestern a devastating 17 point lead, but the play was reviewed and overturned, and the Owls kicked a field goal to make it a 7 point game on the following play. Rice then forced a punt and got the ball back, driving all the way down the field to tie the game with 1:58 to go. On the next play from scrimmage Northwestern threw an interception and Rice got the ball back in field goal territory, but punched in the game winning touchdown with 8 seconds left on Sam McGuffie's 1 yard run.
